When Should Kissing on the Lips stop...if Ever?

i kiss my parents and brothers on the lips. my husband doesn't, he hugs and i think he cheek-kisses his mom. i cheek-kiss both of his parents.
at some point in their teens the boys started kissing my cheek (or the top of my head, dang tall people) instead of the lips. i was fine with that. but i let it be their choice.
so long as they keep kissing their mom, i'm not picky!

Glad to see I am not the only one....I will be 35 this year and still kiss my parents (not the in-laws though!) on the lips followed up with a big hug. Happy Friday all!

I would stop when she asks me too, other way why it should?
My mother kiss me on the lips until I was 15. She went one day to my school and she kiss me goodbye on the lips, I was embarrassed and I asked her to stop, at least in public.

I think it's fine. A smooch is a smooch.

If your kids at some point don't WANT that, then you stop.

I'm 28 and still give my mom and dad kisses on the lips followed by a huge hug. I think it all depends on how you were raised and the affection shown while growing up. I have friends who also still kiss there parents on the lips so I know Im not out of the "norm", also a couple who never show any affection what so ever.

With my children they are loved to death. I practice a lot of nuture and nature, and hope that they never stop showing their affection towards others, especially their mama :)

EVery so often my kids and I kiss on the lips but somewhere between childhood and the tween years we began the cheek kisses. We still hug a lot and will jsut stand around with an arm over another's shoulders. My kids (both taller than me) will also come and sit on my lap - as they will with my husband (my son not so much on his dad's lap - but once in a great while).

At some point it feels a little odd to kiss them on their lips and you'll know when that is - I think my kids kind of directed the change based on their preferece. IN the mornings while they're still sleeping, as I'm waking htem up I frquently will plants many little kisses on their cheecks and forhead and they seem to really like the affection.

Mostly we just try to show affection in many ways - arms around each other, toussled hair, slap on the butt, touch on the arm, and long hugs and holds during tough times. Heck, I am known to still crawl into bed with my kids at times...

I'm with Rachel and I am 40! Actually, I am also with Molly - my grandma is 88 and I still kiss her on the lips! Followed by big hug and silent thank you to God for letting her still be here:) C.

My oldest is 23. I don't kiss him on the lips...but I do kiss him every time he leaves or comes back or what ever cause well, I don't think you can ever have enough of that. My daughter is 19, I still kiss her on the lips but kinda on the corner cause she says that's "weird" but then will do the same to me..lol My wee one, he's 5...and it's always "sugars"...and until he says no...it'll be that way.

I kissed my grandmother on the lips til the day she died...accompanied by a nose brush and a hug.

It doesnt ever have to stop. Im 29 and I kiss my grandma on the lips! In fact Im seeing her this weekend and I cant wait. Miss her!

My ILs are lip kissers. I am personally grossed out when my SILs want to kiss me on the lips. I turn my head, they try to turn it back. Oh, well, I'm simply not in a comfort zone when they kiss me....cheek, yes....lips, no! It's become a family joke with my family....oh, I'm sooooo mean!

I have 4 children. My oldest 3 are grown and none kiss me on the lips, but they do on my cheek. I just let them lead me on the lip kisses as to when it became uncomfortable for them. My 10 year old son still kisses me on the lips, and I'll just keep right on doing it until he doesn't want me to anymore.

I am 42 years old. I still kiss my parents on the lips. I kiss my brother and his wife and their children on the lips. I kiss my 2 year old son on the lips. The only person I don't kiss on the lips is my MIL - she always turns her head. I think it is a family preference and doesn't need to be judged by anyone other than those it directly affects. Happy kissing - or not!!

I still kiss both my parents, my grandma, and my sisters on the lips. Just a quick peck and a huge hug. I hope my kids keep it up they are 7 and 5. I wonder if that is going to go out the window with todays generations. No spanking and no kissing......... Hmmmm

Quick peck on the lips to mom or dad is fine. Lingering, not ok.

Growing up, we didn't kiss on the lips but my kids kiss me and hubby on the lips. Now that my son is a grown adult, it is on the cheek but that is a
"what's comfortable" thing.

And my grandparents... who died in their 90's.

The only time we don't is when someone is sick.

Oh funny! I just told my 9yo grandson the other day....we always joke around. "Everytime you see me and when we leave each other we have to kiss....I said....even when you get a girlfriend"! He said...."Not when I get a girlfriend....no way". Forever kisses is the way to go!

At some point it will or will not feel weird - that is when it's time to stop, it is different for everyone!

We all kiss on the lips in our family, but if anyone expressed any discomfort or didn't feel right about, we would stop and respect that. I don't think there is a set age---I don't know when i will stop if ever kissin my babies.

I think you have to go with how you & your child feel. When it starts feeling a little weird, then it's time to stop. I grew up in a very affectionate home, so kissing my child on the lips is totally normal to me.

I have never been down for that.. my MIL tried to do that with my son and I was against it..I tend to think those things should be left for couples..

Most kids won't let you do it once they become a teen. I don't think you need to stop till then.

A peck on the lips from dad is okay until she's a teen, too. My dad even pecked me on the lips in adulthood, and it felt perfectly normal.

My daughter is 21, we have kissed on the lips all her life, and still do.

I always kissed my babies on the mouth and then as they got older it became less frequent. Not because I made a conscious decision to stop, it just did. I am kissing my baby (13 months) on the mouth now and I am sure it will stop and I wont even realize it.

we are not lip kissers. I am uncomfortable with it.
lip kissing is for couples.

Its up to you both. I stopped kissing my dad on the lips when I was about 2 or so my mom told me. But in the days when he was dying and even deceased, I kissd him on his mouth repeatedly. It felt more final for me than a peck on the cheek.

I am 30 years old and I still kiss my mom, dad and brother on the lips. If people think that's weird, I don't care. That's just how our family rolls. My brother, doesn't kiss my dad, but they hug....not sure when that stopped....it's a MAN thing. lol But my brother still kisses mom on the lips, too. And yes, if someone isn't feeling well or has a cold, we all understand that we turn the cheek during that time. :0)

It's a really great way to spread those germs around.
