we have a britax roundabout. The car seat is supposed to hold children to 40 pounds /40 inches. Is it 40 pounds AND/OR 40 inches?? My daughter is 39 or 40 inches.. but she only weighs 27 pounds. Also she has very long legs so she has plenty of headroom in the carseat.. When are they too big for their carseat??

What can I do next?

My daughter is almost 2 1/2 and we moved her into a booster. Britax has an awesome booster seat, and yes it is 40 lbs OR 40 in. The harness has to hit them correctly in order for it to be considered effective and if they are over the height requirement then it is not safe for them anymore.

A child should be at least 40 lbs for a booster seat. She needs to be in a carseat still.

When shes unconfortable. Shes too tall and she has the harnes pulling down on her shoulders which can give them pain and discomfort. Doesn't matter how much the pounds and height you want to make sure she comfortable. If she sits on the car seat or booster and you move the seat belt over her does it sit2 inches or so under her chin. If it sits right under she may not be ready. Make sure the seat belt is in the lowest position comming of the side by the seats.

First Michigan law is that the child must be 40 lbs before they go to a booster seat. The 5 point harness is the safest so you should keep her in that the longest possible. My 6 year old just move to a full back booster when she turned 6 and she is tall too! my 2.5 year old is 29 pounds now and is still in a 5 point harness and there is plenty of room. If you put her in a booster at this age and you have a serious crash most likely she would be seriously injured from the large belt not properly holding her. At 3 years old they don't sit still enough to stay properly belted

hi lisa. is the shoulder harness at or above her shoulders?/ is her ears below the back of the carseat?? if her ears are lower than the seat then keep her in the 5pt. if her harness is still fitting her right keep her in the 5 pt. call your local fire dept or office of young children someone might be a car seat tech and they can check it out for you. a 5 pt is much safer then a booster seat. check out this website it may help. if you still need help email them they are very helpful!! good luck

It is 40lbs OR 40inches.

I would NOT move her to a booster she is too small/young, it would not be safe.

We purchased a Graco Nautilus which goes up to 65lbs and I believe 50inches with the internal harness then converts to a booster. That will keep our 4yr old son safe and secure until he is at least 6yrs old, at that point we will evaluate if he is big enough and mature enough for a booster.

here's a video that shows the importance of keeping your child in a 5pt harness as long as possible.

I would buy her the Britax Frontier. She can use this up to 80 lbs as a 5pt harness :) http://www.britaxusa.com/car-seats/frontier My mother in law has it in her car for my daughter and we love it. Up to 100 lbs it can be used as a booster.

The shoulder straps must be at or above her shoulders. If there is still room in the harness I would keep her in the 5pt harness. Also ALL booster seats require that the child be at least 30 lbs but it is recommended that you wait until they are 40 before moving to a booster. My daughter was 5 when she moved to a booster seat!
