My 5 year old just started kinder. He likes it, but there is one thing he didnt like, the cafeteria food. Today I went to buy him a luchbox but now what can I put in there besides sandwiches, chips, fruit, and juics? Since they cant heat up their food and dont want anything to go bad. Any ideas will be great especially luch packing moms.

What can I do next?

Hi E..
I'd put a Luncheable in the lunch box with a cold pack to keep everything good. Is the lunch box insulated? Those do well keeping cold things cold, especially if you throw a freezer/ice pack in it.
Good luck!

carrot sticks/celery or any veggies he likes with a small plastic container with ranch dressing

Raisins OR Craisens (any dried fruit)

Cheese cubes or sticks

Kids yogurt cups (Twix), or Danamals drinkable yogurts, Go-gurts

Instead of chips--try whole grain goldfish, veggie chips or any whole grain crackers

The earlier we start them on healthy foods, the more likely they are to get used to them

Fruit is obvious but I buy canned mandarin oranges or other canned fruit (peaches) and they love it

yogurt, vege sticks with some ranch dressing, crackers (plus they have those packaged ones with cheese or peanut butter), nuts, raisins, other dried fruit, jello, pudding, granola bars, even a little baggie of his favorite cereal! get creative and make sure you put different things in there every day!

When my son started last year we had a huge problem. He doesn't eat cold stuff other than cereal. We did buy a thermos, (a nice one that is stainless on the inside) and I am now able to send dinner left overs and they keep warm. The other thing he likes is cereal, I would send a thermos full of cereal and he would use his milk from school to pour over it. I have sent all kinds of things that have to be kept warm. Lunchables are full of sodium and are not that healthy, I try to avoid those.

I have the same problem.. I find myself walking around the grocery store looking down every isle trying to think of things to put in my daugher's lunch. Some other ideas are string cheese, go-gurts, teddy grahams, peanut butter crackers, and gold fish. You can also make tortilla roll-ups if he likes them. I also send carrots with ranch. I recently bought an insulated bowl that I can send things to stay warm until lunch time, one of my daughters favorites is ravioli's! The re-usable ice packs come in handy to keep the cold items good until lunch time.
Good luck!

Well I pack my hubbies lunch and what I do to keep it fresh is just stick one of those small blue ice things you can keep in your freezer. That way his lunchmeat or yogurt etc will be fresh. For a little one, you can do of course a sandwich, yogurt, fruit, fruit roll up, granola bars, a little sweet if you like, trail mix, you could use a tortilla instead of bread and cut it up in several sections for a fun change. You could do a fruit cup instead of fresh or apple sauce, throw in a capri sun sometimes, or maybe chocolate milk once in a while. This is actually what I do for my hub, but I think a kid would like it too. If the lunch box is small, they even have really small ice packs that are in flexible plastic so you can squish them around your cold items. Anyway hope that helps! I think I found my ice packs in the camping section at Walmart. Have a great day!!

Pasta, Lunchables [they have pizza, chicken nuggets, mini hot dogs]. With sandwiches you can cut them with cookie cutters- Ham/turkey w/ cheese, Grill cheese and PBJ's. You could also make Hot dogs with torillas. You could also buy a thermo and heat spaghettios, soups, spaghetti or any other hot food you like.
Have fun
