My Daughter is having her second set of ear tubes on Thursday this week. Her first set was done when she was 10 months old. I didnt know what to expect AFTER surgery. She was irratable and cranky but it seemed that every hour she it was better and better until about 4pm she was back on her feet. Well NOW she is 28 months old and talks like crazy...she loves seeing the doctor and having him look at her ears (Doc tells her he is going to find monkeys in her ear ha ha)
Question for you ladies is what am I to expect AFTER her surgery this time. since she is older now and can understand me and daddy, I am hoping to hear some stories of better turn outs (less pain for her) Surgery is at 745...after her surgery (which will be done by 8am :) I am going to work and daddy will be staying home with her all day. He was saying last night "I have to figure out what Haley and I are going to do..I dont want to be stuck home all day" and I was thinking "UM dont get to excited to take her out..she may be in pain etc"
All advise, stories, suggestions is welcome. Thanks

What can I do next?

Good Morning!

My daughter had her first set when she was 11 months old and just got her second set in December 2010. The worst part was her waking up from the anesthesia. She was a little disoriented first but once she woke up, she was fine for the rest of the day. We even went to visit daddy at work!

Good luck!! Everything will be fine.

Hi, my son was operated on twice. First @ 1 year, second @ 29 months. He was much more aware the second time around but overall he acted the same when he woke up from anesthesia (very disoriented, crying, etc) so I think it is likely that she will also react the same as first time. My son was 'back to normal' that afternoon but we still opted to keep him
Indoors, had a brand new coloring book and crayons waiting for him at home and lots of Popsicles (he also has adenoids removed which are removed through his throat).

Best of luck to you and you little one!!

Every child is different. My son had 3 sets of tubes put in. The first time younger than your daughter and he came out singing! No real words of course, but using his voice in the recovery room loudly and happily. The doctor said he felt so much relief that he was probably feeling good for the first time in a long time.

Be sure they know she was irritable last time. The anesthesia may have contributed and they may do things a little differently this time. Picture your little girl waking up happy and shrugging it off. You may think I am nuts, but I think if you picture it and actually meditate while she is in surgery seeing it all go well in your mind that it will help it actually happen.

Even if you think I am nuts........ how could it hurt?

:)

My son has had three sets--- first under age one. second around 3 and finally at 5.
in our experience it is the anethesia not the pain that keeps them down. my son has woken up very cranky and confused. however once that passes he is usually just sleepy and has never complained of pain!
Good luck!!!

My twins had to have two sets of tubes as well. Each child is different and with mine the first time around was totally different from the second. The first time they were supposed to get it done the same exact day however one of the twins woke up during the middle of the night throwing up. Luckily I was able to take the one and get the other done later. I rmember them being a little fussy but nothing I couldn't handle and it was one at a time.
The second time around was totally different. We had them both done at the same time and my husband was off that day and I remember thinking "THANK GOD HE WAS HERE" they were screaming and very ill I think basically because they were very confused as to what was going on.....eventually they calmed and everything was fine and they were just as normal afterwards. The first time they slept about half the day-not the second time around they were bouncing off the walls as usual-lol!
