Both of my sons were fortunate enough to be given handmade newborn size blankets when they were born. The blankets are beautiful crotched items, and now that they are older, I don't know what to do with them. I don't want them to be just laying out in their rooms for fear they will get destroyed. But, I don't want to just pack them away in the basement either because they are special. So, I was wondering if any of you have any creative ideas of what to do with these handmade blankets that my children have outgrown. Thanks!
Thank you everyone for your responses! I do want to keep them and give them to them when they are older, so I think I will try to frame some of them and keep some nicely put away in my bedroom.
My mom crotched all my kids baby blankets. They have a lot of them so with a few of them I just framed them and then with some of the other I asked if she could make a blanket with the baby blanket in the center. Then with one of their blankets i have set aside in my cedar hope chest for when they have babies when there are old enough.
I agree with the others about having them displayed in photo boxes/shadow boxes on the wall. Not sure how big the blankets are, but you could probably find a great display box for them and maybe have the blanket mounted with a pic of the boys wrapped in the blanket (or whatever) mounted in there with it with a copy of their birth announcement.
Photo boxes or hang on the wall as is. They both look great! I still let my kids use their baby blankets that were made however it does look kinda silly because its so small!! Thanks for the reminder I need to do something too

Are they special enough for you to consider having them framed?
Possibly placed in an area for all to enjoy and give thanks to the person who thought so much to make them.
I have 3 items of clothing that I will be having framed and placed in our home. One of them is my husbands jacket and tie that he wore home from the hospital as a newborn.
His mother was sweet enough to give it to me when our first child was born just a few years back. It's been sitting in the makeshift frame she had it stored in over the years. I think it's time to frame it so we can all enjoy.

I agree, the only thing I can think to do with them is to frame them. You could buy your own shadowboxes and make a little collage/scrapbook page type display. You could include a bootie, picture of your baby, pic of baby with person that made the blanket, any other momento of your baby would be cute. Maybe ask somebody that scrapbooks for ideas of ways to arrange it.

My mom made my daughter a beautiful knitted blanket that we use all of the time. I am hoping it will survive and then I can put it away (carefully, not in the basement where it could get damaged) so that when my daughter is older I can give it back to her and she can decide what to do with it.

put them each over a dowel rod & hang on the wall
You could hang them on the wall of their rooms or put them in large frames.
Depending on how similar they are or what size they are could you piece them together to make a larger blanket for them to use now?
I know we loved making forts as kids with all of my moms old blankets. That might be a fun way of continuing to let them get use out of the blankets. Although, it would keep them preserved.
My mom just put our old blankets in storage and now my baby uses the same blanket my grandmother crotched for me. It's neat to see us both wrapped in the same blanket in photos.
Frame them! I think this is a wonderful way to keep them safe and show them off at the same time. I know my grandma used to make blankets and the grand children were never lucky enough to get one of our own. When she passed away my aunt took one of her blankets and made sure we all got a section off it. I love looking at it every day. Some feel that it was a wrong to cut up her work but to all the grandkids 7 of us we love having a piece of our grandmother in our homes as adults!
