Sunlight degrades the plastic parts. If it has expired, it should be discarded as unsafe. You should also cut the straps and do waht ever you can to discourage anyone else from trying to "rescue" it while it is waiting for trash pickup.
I am wondering wwhat everyone thought about infant carriers. We are about to be done with ours as our youngest is 9 mos. I did use it with my first child but it is still in great condition. However, it is technically "expired" as the born on date was about 6b years ago. Am I really supposed to throw it away? I'd love to donate it (and it is even part of a travel system so I have the matching stroller). Any thoughts on what the rules are? Thanks for your help!

I don't know what the rules are, but off the top of my head, (if you're in the St. Louis area) the St. Louis Crisis Nursery might accept it (they have at least 2 locations in the area) and the Children's Home Society might take it. (They do pick-ups at your home.) Seems like a waste to just throw it out. Maybe someone would like one even if it's "expired" as opposed to not having one at all?
I faced the same dilema but ended up putting it in the trash as it was over 6 years old. I did take the straps out first so no one could use it. I couldn't stand the thought of an infant getting hurt because the plastic deteriorated! I donated the stroller though to charity!
The seat really isn't as safe because the plastic breaks down over time. I wouldn't feel comfortable donating it to someone else because who knows what could happen to that baby in an accident? I know it seems wasteful, but another child's life is at stake.
I would give it to “Good Will” if it hasn’t been in a car accident. There are many people out there that cannot afford to buy a car seat unless they get them from places like that. I’m sure they would rather have something then nothing.
