What's Your New Year's Resolution?

So I've finally decided to make a New Year's Resolution I'll keep and feel really good about. We're going to make less of an impact on the environment. We're ditching paper towels in favor of a pack of those cheap washclothes. We're going to cut up old flannel shirts to use a wipes for our daughter. I already wash her cloth diapers...why not a few wipes each time as well? We took all our "name brand" household cleaners to METRO for recycling and I'm now using 1 bottle of biokleen and some tea tree oil for all our cleaning. It feels so good to have a resolution that I won't disappoint myself with.

What's yours?

What can I do next?

Mine is to stand up tall like the dancer I was trained to be. No more slouching and no more bending to the will of others simply to avoid confrontation. I WILL find a way to be polite while maintaining my integrity. One of the results of this will be a divorce from my passionate but intimidating and careless husband. I WILL raise my kids with dignity and grace. I WILl find supportive people who be companions on this long road of life for me and my kids.

I also do the cloth diapering. :-) I found that using my own diaper wipes couldn't prevent the endless diaper rash. So I use seventh generation, wash them with the diapers and then use them as tissues and keep washing them. So that only leaves TP and wipes as the only paper product I buy.

Congrats on your thriving premie!

Hi K.,

Kudos on your great New Year's resolution! Mine is to get on my treadmill at least once a day for at least a mile. I wanted to let you know my favorite all natural cleaning product is Baking Soda. I use it to clean anything that is stuck on any surface since it wont scratch anything. I recently used it to clean the glass on my wood stove. I have used it to clean my oven, clean baked on grease off of my pans, stains on the linoleum, to clean the sink in both kitchen and bathroom, it does beautifully to clean the tub surround, no more soap scum, I also brush my teeth with it, use it in my washer for odors, pretty much anything you can scrub, you can use it for. I love it and I have read that it is the most powerful antifungal available and the cure for cancer when applied directly to a tumor! Pretty amazing product. I have gone all natural for my personal care product so I have yet to find an all natural deoderant that works, but cleaning my armpits with baking soda works very well. I haven't tried it yet, but I read that if you have a clogged drain, you can pour baking soda and vinegar down it, and it cleans out the drain.
Happy New Year.

Do you separate your recycleables from your other trash. We have two trash cans in our kitchen. The one under the sink is for trash containing things that can't be recycled and can't be put down the garbage disposal. Everything else goes in the recycling trash can. We are all amazed how easy the habit was it get into and how much we had been tossing in the regular trash that could be recycled. We continue to use paper towels but we only purchase paper towels that are made of recycled paper and then we always throw our paper towels in the recycling trash can.

Oh yeah...I don't do resolutions as I make whatever changes I need to make in my life all through the year. There's no time like the present for change right?

Blessings,
C.

Starting Monday (when I go back to work after a 2 wk break for Christmas) I am going to REALLY watch what I eat and try to get out more for excercise, even if it's just power walking at the mall and taking my daughter to bouncing bears where we can run and play for 3 hrs.I would like to loose 25-60 lbs so I'm closer to my ideal wieght for my hieght/body build..also we're getting married in August and it would be great to have my dress altered to make it a few inches smaller vs bigger.lol

Good for you K.--way to do something for the environment! Every little bit helps, doesn't it:-)

We are sponsoring two kids through Christian Children's Fund: Ciao, a 6 YO-boy from Brazil for my 6YO-son, Michael and Keidy, a 4YO-girl from Honduras for my 5YO-daughter, Katelynn. We had them pick their own and have had them draw pictures and write letters. I think it is going to be a fabulous experience for the entire family!

We are also trying to raise $10K for charities through the sale of Spark at www.advotime.com. This is the first time we've tried to raise that much money, but we are very excited about it.

I'm working on myself: Andy Andrews's 7-Decisions, the Fruits of the Spirit, Max Lucedo's Grace for the Moment daily devotional, and we are reading the Bible as a family this year.

I hope your year is full of blessings!

I love your idea about using wash cloths. I think I'll do that too. I also want to ride my bike to work rather than drive more regularly.

I think we are resolving to be more green as a family...use less paper prodocuts, less plastic baggies...but things that recycle...and make sure they will. Buy things from goodwill...and send old clothes to goodwill that are still good. Also to use more earth friendly products.

Find and make fantastic vegetarian meals in my new Crock Pot once a week or so. It might sound lame, but we eat out toooooo much! Of course I don't think it will stop us from going out to dinner, but it will reduce it hopefully!

Mine is to take the time to read user manuals. I absolutely hate reading instructions and manuals. I make my husband do it. I already got a head start on it for Christmas and it was nice to know all the information on the kids' new toys and games. Its tough though, to fight my natural tendency to hate them and pass them on to someone else to explain to me.

Logistically, I am curious how you are going to do the wipes. I have been pondering that idea and wanting to do it myself. I just am not sure how to keep them wet, or to run to the sink before I change her....or. I would love your thoughts on that. My resolution is to stay healthy, as it is every year...in one form or another. :) Good luck to you!

Balance. I have a lot of hobbies, plus I work four smaller jobs and take care of kids and home. And I want to make time for everything (even exercise)...so that I feel at the end of the day like I was able to balance myself that day, to take care of my needs.
