D.T.
I love carnations, peony, daffodils and gladiolus.
In Saudi Arabia we had two HUGE night blooming jasmine. They smelled heavenly.
I love scents. Give me flower with a scent and I'll be happy.
Poppies.
Hands down.
But in an imaginary world where I could do up my yard how I want it (including altering the weather, and ah, size & structure of my house to include balconies & verandas) :
- bougainvillea & lilac & jasmine draped verandas & balconies
- black locust trees (omg... Best. Smell. Ever. Messy trees. Totally worth it.)
- star magnolia tree
- Japanese cherry trees
____________
So... Are you a blood red rose? Daffodilly? Tulip? Make a wish on me dandelion? Iris? Thistle? Glass (allergic)? Bird of Paradise? Spicy carnation? Whispery baby's breath? Cactus?
Traditional, tropical, pragmatic, outré?
What's your favorite flower or flowers?
Earth shattering. I know. ;)
But I need a little beauty in my life right now.
I love carnations, peony, daffodils and gladiolus.
In Saudi Arabia we had two HUGE night blooming jasmine. They smelled heavenly.
I love scents. Give me flower with a scent and I'll be happy.
Peonies. I love the way they smell and look. Plus, they remind me of my grandparents home when I was a child.
Can I choose a hundred?
Seriously, I love flowers.
I think my hands-down favorite is the gardenia.
So simple...so fragrant.
I have worn them in my hair for many special occasions.
Classic, in my opinion.
All of them.
Snowdrops blooming as soon as a small thaw comes.
Pansies defying the early cold of spring.
Plum blossoms heralding spring. Apple blossoms welcoming back the robins.
The wildflowers under the trees that have yet to bud: spring beauty, trout lilies, trillium.
Spring bulbs to provide that punch of color: crocuses, daffodils, grape hyacinth.
Tulips. Groupings of whites, pinks and purples. Groupings of orange. Groupings of red.
Irises near the edge of a pond, bringing back memories of Japan.
Forsythia spraying branches of yellow.
Tall, broad lilac bushes that have outlasted the farmers who planted them fifty, seventy-five, one hundred years ago.
Lily of the valley growing in the woods.
Bleeding hearts.
Peonies bursting open, teasing that school will soon end.
Hydrangeas to dot yard bushes.
Impatiens in my boxes on my treed street. In my former years, the salmon colored ones. Now, my daughter loves red.
Bring the geraniums back from the window ledge at school and put them on vacation on the porch.
Then it is time for the summer colors and cut flowers.
Day lilies growing anywhere they are allowed, including the culverts near the side of the road.
Morning glories. snapdragons. poppies. gladiolas. delphiniums. dahlias. daisies. sweet pea.
The delicate beauty of cosmos.
Wild roses.
Backyard loves that just show up: bluets. harebells.
Roadside loves: chickory. wild daisies. fireweed.
Wild clover with white and pink globes.
Sunflowers to remind me of fields in Tuscany. Large ones. Medium-sized ones. Yellow-petalled. Orange-petalled. Variegated- petalled. Statice for company. Later, bring one home as a seed head to share with the squirrels.
The cicadas come to a fevered pitch and the crickets start lulling us to sleep at night.
The beach grass with the glow of the sun on its shafts at the Lake Michigan dunes for that last time to watch the sunset in late August and lingering through September.
The impatiens hang on until the pumpkins get a turn on the porch, with purple chrysanthemums set nearby for contrast.
The trees begin to blaze. My yard's oaks are the last to drop.
Then time to nestle in after setting evergreen branches in the window boxes, hanging the wreath and selecting the tree for life indoors for celebration.
Memories of snow on the deep pink camellias, nestled in their waxy leaves while visiting temples in Japan. How did they stay in bloom?
Nighttime snow muffling all sound and providing the greatest source of light reflecting the moon's glow.
Long-stemmed roses.
Snapdragons and lupins. Those are my very favorites.
But goodness, find me a flower I don't like and I'll give you 1000 dollars.
I love red clovers, especially ones near a honey bee hive. I love dahlias. I especially love dahlias. I love how fat and saggy they are.
I love tropical flowers because they are so bizarre and fantastic. Like birds of paradise...how DO those exist?
And I love smelly flowers. Especially the lavender fields like the ones near Squim. Just ridiculous.
And honey suckle. And gardenia. And jasmine.
Balconies and verandas draped with vines. That makes me want to shout! I just saw a picture of a strawberry garden that had been planted so that the strawberries were dropping down between slates. Can you imagine?!
I love cherry trees too. And apple trees. Mostly because I love spring. When the blossoms start to form, I feel like purring.
Thanks for talking about flowers. I really like flowers. Someday, perhaps I'll learn to garden. But for now, I just feel happy from afar.
Lily of the Valley and Peonies. My grandmother (who I never knew) grew Peonies in her Brooklyn, NY backyard. When my mother married, my grandmother dug up the roots and gave some to her. Every year right around Mother's day, the peonies would bloom in our front yard. When my sisters and I left home to marry, we were given roots from my mother's peonies to plant in our gardens.
When my parents sold the home I grew up in, my mother forgot to take the roots with her. She realized it when Mother's day was coming around the following year and I had asked her if her Peonies were coming up yet. She was in tears as she told me she had forgotten to take the roots with her. With an infant on my hip, I knocked on the door of our old house and through tears asked if I could dig some of the original roots up. The owners thought I was crazy, but let me do it. That year for mother's day, I wrapped the roots up in wrapping paper and gave them to my mother. Best gift ever.
Thanks for reminding me of something happy. May your garden overflow with beautiful things, R..
I love wild flowers
My favorite is the blue hydrangea, reminds me of the beach
Daisies. Just love them. They make me happy!
I love water lilies the most, hands down. Any kind of lily, really, but water lilies are my fave.
I do love lilacs, they smell like heaven. Where I went to college, we had tons of them everywhere. It sure made walking to class a lot easier.
i lovelovelove so many flowers. especially at this time of year! the first snowdrops are breathtaking, then when the tulips and daffies come bursting out, my heart thrills.
but you can't beat roses. i adore roses, especially purple ones. but really, there's just not a meh rose.
but a very close second are daisies. i don't know why, they're so simple, but i just love them to pieces. especially the painted ones that i cannot grow to save my life.

Daisies! #2 recently found a beautiful hibiscus in my backyard!
Ah Momof4 made me smile!
I like a lot of flowers but Lilacs, Queen Anns Lace, and snapdragons come to mind. I LOVE the scent of carnations and I also love my cecille brunner roses (small pink spicy scented blooms!)
Indubitably the gardenia. Even after it has grown old and ugly, it's beautiful scent lingers on.

Purple Roses, so romantic.
However for practiality's sake I also LOVE Tulips.
Big, blue, giant hydrangeas! Tulips, daisies, anything that comes up in spring, lilacs, lilies of the valley, I could go on and on.
Thanks for this question. I needed this.
I love the Gerbera daisies because they put on a big show - like a firework. But when I was working at a florist's shop, my favorite smelling flower was one I'd never heard of before. It's called Boronia. And it is so, so beautifully fragrant! If you have a neighborhood flower shop, call them up and ask if they'd ever get a stem or two for you. It's heavenly!
http://flowers-zone.blogspot.com/2011/04/boronia-flower-i...
I love all flowers, they all put a smile on my face :)
All of them - wild, cultivated, in large numbers or alone, at the garden center or in nature... I don't love how some smell but oh the wonderful colors, glorious textures and amazing shapes. Sigh. I love spring and summer. It starts so beautifully in Texas with wildflowers. I love rolling fields of blue bonnets and Indian paintbrush. Thanks for asking. It made me smile contentedly and today needed the boost.
Oh, you would love my yard in the summer! Poppies fill a section of the yard and they multiply every year. I didn't plant them and it was a lovely surprise when 3 flowers bloomed that first year. Now there are hundreds of blooms!
I love poppies, of course, but my favorite blossoms come from trees. Plumeria, hibiscus, cherry, apple blossoms (LOVE), etc. I love flowering trees!
Love flowers! Each one I really love has a memory to it.
When I was little in ky and the air was thick and still, honeysuckle would smell so strong. I bet no king in his palace ever was blessed by such a perfume. You could almost taste it.
dwarf dogwood, mountain avens, linnaea. These are all tiny non-showy flowers you find in Alaska where we used to live. Oh and tiny blue forget-me-nots. So sweet!
Orchids, Lilies, Salvia, Queen Anns lace, so many others that I dont know the names of.
I am fascinated by flowers.
I should do more research.
stargazer lilies are my fav! :)
I love :
Tulips
Daisies
Petunia's
Oh and the beautiful pink/purple hydrangeas :)
I don't have a favorite, but but I do have a list... I love daisies. Maybe because they are my mom's favorite flower or maybe because they are such happy flowers.
I also love tulips, alstromeria and orchids...
If I have to choose, I might say that succulents were my all around favorite plants:)
Fun question:)
Because I am fickle and love flowers in their season (and I grow them in my garden)...
Right now, I am LOVING my yellow witch H.. After nearly 5 years of no blooms, my patience was rewarded and I have a lovely array of blooms.
Soon, the winter daphne will bloom with its heavenly scent, and that will be my favorite. As I said, all in their turn.
orchid
bougainvillea for sure
california poppies, since you mentioned them.
Updated
orchid
bougainvillea for sure
california poppies, since you mentioned them.
Peonies
Roses
Daisies
Walls covered in Jasmine
Trellises covered in Morning Glory in the spring
Japanese Maple - obviously not a flower, but I could look at those leaves like they are flowers.
Gardenias
Have you ever been to Saguaro National Park in Arizona? The desert flowers are magnificently bright!! Gotta put that on your bucket list R.!!
Poppies for me, too … all species and colors. And also the diminutive Pacific Coast iris (here are just a few pictures of the many hybrids now available: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/home_blog/2011/04/pacific.... You want some beauty, google Pacific Coast iris. Lotsa gorgeousness.
Oh, my, I've suddenly got a case of spring fever!
I hope you find the lift you need!
Gerber daisies. Technically I think they are called gerbera daisies. There are a lot of pretty flowers out there though! I mean, roses are so gorgeous and fragrant. I am feeling tulips and daffodils right now too, wishing for spring I think!
Honestly, the rose. Classic, beautiful. I had roses at my wedding and I just love them. I also love bluebonnets, because I'm a Texan. :) Fun question!
Honestly, snapdragons. May seem a bit boring, but I think they are lovely, and although I only planted them one summer in a pot by my front door, year after year they now spring up from the rocks surrounding my house. Hearty, for sure, and in MN.
But there are so many truly beautiful flowers that I just can't afford to own that I don't dream about it, so that's really a tough question.
Is it too cheesy to say "the ones my husband gives me?"...he gave me three roses today (well, one for me and one for each daughter), I'm sure he bought them at the grocery store and I expect that is my Valentine's present...but still, it's a rare treat and beautiful.
As far as smell goes, I am in LOVE with freesia. Mmm.
Even though they smell like poo, I love Daisies :)
Moss roses--they are very vibrant colors--fuschia, yellow, orange-- but only bloom in the mornings and close up again later as it gets too hot for them. My dad had them in our front yard, and I always loved to look at them in the mornings when I sat on the front steps waiting for my siblings to finish getting ready for school.
My hands-down favorite is DAFFODILS. I wish they bloomed longer.... *sigh*
For cut flowers, I love stargazer lilies.
For garden flowers...the list is endless. Stella d'Oro daylilies, hydrangeas, peonies, poppies (love the pink ones!), hedge roses, ALL spring bulbs (because they signify SPRING!), spring cherry and pear blossoms, hollyhocks, salvia, and daisies (I like Shastas, but love the blue daisies too). I adore flowers. Oh..."Johnny Jump-Up" mini pansies...ever since I was a little girl I've loved them. In the Autumn, I love chrysanthemums...especially the orange ones.
Alstroemeria.
But really I love them all!
Dahlias are my favorite. I love to grow them and I love the day that the Swan Island Dahlia catalogue comes each year.
I'm another gerber daisy girl. I buy them for myself when I want a pick me up.
OH, do I love poppies! Girl after my own heart!! Texas wildflowers are my favorite, too. I loved going into the fields as a girl and picking bouquets of wildflowers. My favorite thing on earth to paint is wildflowers. They lend themselves nicely to watercolors. My dream is to have land with wildflowers, a big porch, rocking chair, and a nice cup of tea.
My dad has dozens and dozens of amazing rose bushes. Big, beautiful roses. I LOVE them. I am not fond of floristy roses, but I love roses in nature.
What a sweet question, just in time for Valentine's Day. :)
My favorite flowers are pink roses. Also love daffodils, stargazer lilies, and iris.
My ideal yard would be like those English gardens where it seems like the flowers are growing wild. I'm having a hard time achieving that, though.
Well, we have some HUGE "dwarf" gardenias. (Seriously, the landscaper who installed them when we built our house came back 3 years later to do something new for us, and couldn't believe it. They really are dwarf ---less than 3 feet high---but the suckers are probably 5 or 6 feet across! And they smell wonderful when they bloom. Last year our weather was so wonky they bloomed about 3 different times. :)
I also LOVE a bit of lavander I stuck in the ground near my garage door. It is the maroon-y pink shaded one. Smells so good when you pinch off a flower and rub it into a bowl.
I'm with Mindy. Dahlias are my favorite... and Daisies... and clematis I guess...
I also love the spring bulbs - tulips and daphies... ;)
I'm a gardener... so I guess I could list about all of them.
Orchids, and White roses.
I have roses all over the place. My grandma had roses everywhere and that is how my house is.
Crocus were always one of my favorites because it bloomed in the snow. I also enjoy lilac trees for their beauty and smell. But no smell down here in Florida :[.
I like most flowers except flowers that are suppose to be black.
The color just doesn't appeal to me.
As far as flower scents go - I adore French lilacs!
The highly fragrant deep purple or blue flowers.
They only last about a week, but when they are blooming I have to go smell them several times a day.
Best lilac catalog ever:
For cut flowers, I love Casa Blanca Lilies !
But of course, I adore all garden flowers, each with their distinct scent and memory. Poppies score high for me too, especially as impressionistic art work. Flowers are just happy! Thanks for the smile :))
My favourite to grow in my yard would be impatiens, especially double impatiens. I have a shady yard with with giant elms in the front and back, so I need to grow shade loving flowers. I also love my peonies, I just wish they bloomed longer. And lilacs. And lillies of the valley. And Shasta Daisies. And Hollyhocks... Spring is so far away...
Yellow roses are my favorites, JFK roses are a close second. But I will always have a soft spot for dandelions. Sure they're weeds, but when your kids go out and scour the neighborhood for all of them just to be sweet, you kind of grow attached. lol
I have always loved daisies!!
Sunflowers
Poppies (here in Hawaii? Sure. Hey but I grew them! Yep, in Hawaii! I grew it by seed. I was determined to do so).
Freesia
Tuberose
Gardenias
I've grown all of these myself except for the Freesia.
Sunflowers, were my wedding bouquet and used as decoration for our reception.
My late Dad, liked Peonies. My Mom likes those too.
Of course here in Hawaii we can only buy it seasonally and it costs an arm and a leg!
Tulips - all sizes, colors, shapes. The more, the better. I try to plant another few dozen every fall so that I'm surprised in the spring.
Rose
I'm actually allergic to so many flowers. I think they are all pretty in their own way but I love roses because I'm not allergic and they are just so classic. I actually like some of the brightly colored ones and not the red as much.
Every once in a while we'll treat ourselves to a bunch from Costco just for the fun of it to brighten up the mood in the house. They have some stunning colors!
I would have to say Sunflowers as I love how bright and cheery they are. But also Lily of the Valley. I love how delicate and sweetly fragrant they are!!
Dahlias!!!!
So many variations, color and size.
Just one can make a whole bouquet!
Peonies! Magnolias, dahlias, lilacs, daffodils, tulips, roses, hydrangea, gerbera daisies, sunflowers, forget me nots :)
Pansy are my favorite garden flower.
Dried roses are all over my house. Which would lead one to believe I love them......I dont. I just like the rustic look they bring to the forefront against my art work.
I think weeping willows and Japanese Cherry tree's are my favorite trees. Brilliant. They make a yard just pop.
My perfect yard would be one that looks like it has never seen a lawnmower. With tons of wild flowers. And a roped swing. With a bird bath...and my pet goat:)I want to try and bring as many butterflies and bee's to my world:)
I love the smell of Lilac's and Easter season flowers. They are just to die for!!!
Looks like im missing out...i don't really like flowers....unless my hubby sends them to me.
My girls pickout flowers to plant in flower pots....i have no idea of they are the right flowers, but they like them so i like them.
i am not a plant/nature person. so i don't like being given flowers. but i do love seeing cherry blossoms on trees in the spring. love them.
Tulips (except if the chipmunks don't steal the bulbs, the deer population will eat their foilage before they have a chance to bloom) so in my garden I settle for fancy daffodils (deer resistant)
Other favorites include the Hibiscus, elusive Clivia, and (I think it is the) Mandevilla.
