Meijer does NOT take them. Tried to drop some over there the other day since that's where I do my shopping.
Am I the only one who has a giant stockpile of plastic bags? I have so many bags from Target, Meijer, Walmart, etc. I hate to throw them in the garbage, but I don't know what to do with them. Does anyone know who takes back the plastic bags? I shop in Crystal Lake and Algonquin. Thanks.

Wal-mart takes them back. In the Woodstock store it is right inside the entry door but in some Wal-mart stores it is by the service counter they have a box to put your bags in. Jewel stores take them back. The box is right inside the entry door at both Woodstock and Crystal Lake.
Wal-mart is trying to get people to go to using canvas bags. They are selling very nice reusable canvas bags for $1 each. I know that Osco/Jewel is doing the same thing but not sure of the cost. Canvbas bags are great because they can be used for so many things besides shopping.
Have a great Day

Do you crochet or knit? I have heard about people who cut them into strips and crochet them into reusable market bags. Some people add yarn to the plastic strips.
Patterns are available for free online for knit or crochet.

Almost the entire back of my van is filled with plastic bags to recycle. I keep forgetting every time I go to the store.
Jewel and Walmart by us both take plastic bags for recycling.
Grocery stores like Jewel and Dominick's usually have a bin in the front of the store. You just tie up the bags and drop them there.
C., I know that almost every Jewel I've been into has a bag recycle spot in the entrance. They accept all store's bags, not just their own.
C. M,
Jewel and walmart both take plastic bags and recycles them. I work at the walmart in Crystal lake off of route 31. At my store when you come in by the pharmacy there is a garbage container where you can put the used plastic bags. There is a place in Jewel as well. I hope this helps.

Hi C., to respond to your overflow of plastic bags dilema. You can take them ALL to the Jewel store in Crystal Lake. They have a recycling bin for plastic bags at both entrances when you first walk in. Another option would be to donate them to local grade schools for the teachers to use in their classrooms.
I know our Jewel takes bags. In fact, if you bring in 10 TODAy (Earth Day) they will give you a coupon for a FREE Go Green Canvas bag. I use these bags all the time for groceries. Much easier to carry in the house with the large handle bags than plastic ones.

What is the number on a plastic shopping bag? Can you recycle it? I use mine to line our little trashcans in the bathrooms. I also used them to clean the litter box. Now that everyone sells those cloth bags, you can get away from the plastic. If worse comes to worse, just close your eyes and put them in the trash. You can use the cloth from here on out and at least feel better that you aren't using the plastic anymore.
Look in the entryway of the Jewel in Algonquin - there's one there for sure. Jewels and Dominicks all over have the bins to recycle. I just bought a couple of the reusable bags and they hold a lot more than the plastic bags - just have to remember to take them into the store with me from the car!
