I would get tubing as well. There's also battery packs and connections to the car lighter if you are worried about electricity compatibility (or just get those converters).
Amazon.com and breakoutbras.com are also good places to get medela parts.

I'm not sure how much you plan on pumping, but if you're pumping exclusively you M. want to go ahead and get a couple extra shields and connectors anyway just so that you're not having to wash them after each pump session....it gets to be such a beatdown! These days you can get just about anything on ebay (even new parts)with shipping all over the world. I would check and see if spare parts are available and maybe buy them only when needed.

I believe that the membranes need to be replaced every 3 months. I would also buy spare tubing and a set or two of the little yellow pieces that the membranes snap onto. The store @ Presbyterian Plano called A Mother's Gift has excellent assistance in what you will need. Trust me, you don't want to be without spare parts & have to track them down. Mastitis? Plugged ducts? Spend the extra money to get the right parts...

I had the pump in style. I do have to say I needed spare membranes and I bought some extra 'bells' and found that I'm large busted and when I bought the XL size the pumping worked a TON better.

Also, if you pump a lot, if you get the easy expression pumping bra - it is sooo great. You can pump hands free so you can read a magazine or do computer work or whatever. It saved my sanity! http://www.easyexpressionproducts.com/ - you can also buy on ebay.

Definitely get extra membranes. I would also buy an extra set of hose, just in case you get water in yours (which can lead to mold ... )

I would buy some membranes for sure but keep in mind you can always buy extra parts on Ebay and ship it where you are.

We lived in England for 2 years and I had my first child there. What I discovered was that it is often better to go ahead an buy the brand of the country you live in if that is an option. That also goes for childrens beds and bedding. The sizes do not match and that is one thing that is a real pain not do be able to replace easily. So if you are going somewhere like Europe or Japan, I would suggest that you take your medela if you really love it, but don't worry about replacement parts and just buy the local brand if yours breaks. Then all the plugs will match.

Don't know what spare parts to buy as I don't have that model (I have a Medela Swing from 2001), but wanted to say that I live in Norway and Medela is very popular both here and in Sweden, and thus easy enough to buy spare parts. Also, many eBay sellers ship all over the world, just ask before you bid.

Also, make sure that your pump goes from 110-220/240 V or else it won't work (most of the rest of the world goes on 220-240 V, not 110 V). It probably does, but just make sure. Otherwise, you would need to buy a converter as well. And plug ends because your new country will surely have different plug ends (Fry's has them really cheap, so buy there before you move!).

Definitely the membranes! They are so easy to lose when you are washing them. That is the only thing I have needed to replace and I have had two babies that I pumped for. Good luck!
