Prime rib, baked potato casserole and creamed spinach - homemade rolls or Yorkshire pudding and dessert. We used to do ham all the time but we eat that year round. Tom Thumb runs a half price sale on rib roast the week before Christmas which makes it very affordable.....would love to be able to afford some homemade tamales for Christmas Eve!!! Merry Christmas!
Hi D., In our family it is Baked Turkey and Ham, potatoes & Gravy white rice, corn on the cob, Green beans, deviled eggs, rolls, fruit salad, Christmas punch, home made corn bread stuffing, olives, cranberry sauce. Deserts Pumpkin pie, apple pie, my 4 layer desert, and assorted home made cookies. Have a Merry Christmas. J.
Christmas menu varies, but we always have tamales on Christmas Eve! Yum!!
My in laws always have ham and we usually have turkey with my family. However, one of my all time favorites was this incredibly succulent brisket that cooked for almost 24 hours wrapped tightly in foil and covered in spices. There was not a bite left after dinner!
Turkey and all the fixings.
my mom is from new zealand, we always had lamb with mint sauce. (not jelly!) either that or turkey & ham & all the fixings
It depends. Sometimes we do the traditional thing. Sometimes we do prime rib or tri-tip. Sometimes we have crab, salad and sourdough bread. It's nice to do something different once in a while and we probably will this year since we did the traditional turkey thing for Thanksgiving.
I always want HAM and Candied yams. YUM!! We usually have a lot of other things, like turkey, fruit salads, cranberries, etc. but as long as I have that ham and those yams, I'm happy!
We change it pretty often, but we always have a ham. We usually do more of a big brunch than a Christmas dinner. This year we'll have the ham, but we're also frying a turkey on Christmas night and having people over who will bring side dishes.
Fried turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, brown turkey gravy, sauteed green beans with bacon and shallots, corn, misc. appetizers, burboun bread pudding, pecan pie, pumpkin pie...
My parents make turkey, ham and we all bring side dishes like mashed potatoes, greens, breads, pies, etc.
We do Christmas Eve at my house and I make roast beef, potatoes cooked in with the roast, gravy, rolls, I switch up the veggie but I love asparagus spears with a little butter cooked in the oven for about 15 minutes. Sometimes I do salad instead. On Christmas day we go to my parents or my sisters or one of my good friends houses. They usually do ham or turkey & stuffing etc. That is why I do roast so I won't be totally turkeyed out.
traditional irish:champagne aperitif (maybe not so Irish, that one), Ham, Turkey, Brussel Sprouts, Roasted parsnips and carrots, roast potatos, mash potatos, fruit salad, plum pudding, custard, mince pies, wine, tea
It depends. Christmas (25th) is my mum's, uncle's, and grandmother's birthdays... so they usually rotate on "who" gets to choose.
We also do christmas a day early in our house (so Santa comes on the 24th), so that we can have christmas at home and then the next day be celebrating a family xmas/birthday thing. This year our 24th dinner I'm hosting so I'm splurging as a present to my mum and serving her favorite (prime rib). More often it's turkey or lamb.
Christmas eve is when we open our gifts and we always have homemade tacos. Christmas day depend on if we have our kids or not. If so, we have ham, potatoes, carrots, etc. If we don't have the kids, me, hubby and mom usually just go out to eat.
Roast beast (roast beef) just like the citizens of Whoovile--a tradition since i was little!
My husband makes an INCREDIBLE rosemary and garlic crusted prime rib. My mouth is watering right now thinking about it:)
My boyfriends family has Prime rib (his uncle was a chef and it comes out pppeeerrrfffeeeecccttt) and all the usual fixin's.
Growing up my family always did cheese fondue with meats/breads/vegetables for dipping. For dessert we either had pies or chocolate fondue. Sadly the only time I will ever get fondue again is if I make it in a very small batch, my boyfriend doesnt like it. =(
As we got older, when the kids were out of the nest, we did "make your own taco/burrito" buffet for Christmas.
This year we are going to my boyfriends family early for prime rib, and later that night I was thinking of cooking ham with some fixin's...mainly just for left overs. =)
My families and Christmas traditions have changed over the years but here are a couple:
We used to go to my ex-boyfriend's parents for Christmas Eve and his mom would make home made pierogies and borscht. It was different and yummy! I miss it sometimes.
The best Christmas dinner I ever made included a spinach-stuffed beef tenderloin, shrimp cocktail, mashed potato timbales (basically MPs in a round shape), some other veggies, Santa Margarita Pinot Noir (still one of my fave wines) and a cheesecake for dessert.
My mom usually makes a beef roast of some sort, home made mac and cheese, home made bread and a bunch of veggies and desserts.
This year my husband's dad and stepmom have moved back to Oklahoma and we have already had Christmas dinner at their house and have started a new tradition: the annual taco eating contest (there's a long family story that goes along with it). When the contest was first announced, we were told there would be "a major award" for the winner. Turns out they made a taco trophy out of wood and a paper plate and covered it all in foil. Too funny! It went over really well and we're all looking forward to next year now.
Our other usual Christmas dinner is a potluck, this year being held at my house. My husband always makes a ham. SIL makes a cheesy potato casserole (my favorite dish). Someone brings bread a green bean casserole and a dessert every year. The other dishes change yearly.
We do lasagna on Christmas Eve - my MIL's homemade. And we have been doing pork tenderloin on Christmas Day the last several years...a little easier than a prime rib or beef tenderloin. We used to have those, but it's so easy to let them cook too long when everything is hectic. A ruined very expensive piece of meat leaves a bad taste in your mouth, figuratively and literally!
I'm liking the tamales for Eve idea too - might have to try that when it's my turn to hostess!!
We have lobster tail and beef tenderloin with lots of roasted and sauteed veggies!
Prime Rib! Roasted Potatoes, green beans, crispy salad.. Rolls.. Champagne, wine.. Lots of Christmas cookies...Coffee with Kahlua..
My family has baked Ziti, garbage bread, antipasta salad, regular salad, garlic bread, etc. Since we do the big turkey thing on Thanksgiving, this is a nice change of pace.
