What Is the Spot on My Son's Nose??

My 16 year old son, has a red bump on the side of his nose. At first I thought it was a large pimple, but it is different. It is very red and almost seems like a boil or something has formed under several layers of skin. (He had a similar thing over a year ago and it took over three weeks to disappear.) He has tried to hold a hot, wet washcloth on it and has tried a variety of acne medicines...spot treatment, but it still isn't healing. It's definitely very noticeable. any ideas of what this could be or what to do?

thanks in advance

If you don't think anything is going to come out of it STOP putting heat on it, use a cold compress or ice to reduce the swelling and ease the pain.

DEFINATLY take him to the doctor and have them check on it, even possibly have them remove it and test it. i dont want to scare you but it could be anything from as insignificant as a hair or pimple to cancer, theres really no telling, and since im not a doctor, but im aware of the various forms of cancerous spots, i would want to be ABSOLUTLY SURE it wasnt.
good luck and God bless

If it's a boil or cystic acne, he will probably need to see a dermatologist. I get large, red bumps that are under my skin, and they are cycstic acne pimples. My dermatologist gives me antiobiotics, b/c it is an infection under the skin, and he also usually either lances it or gives me topical ointment to put on it. They are not fun, but if you don't treat them, they linger on for a long long time. Good luck!

It's probably cystic acne. Since he had one before and it went away I would think it's a cyst and not something scary like cancer. Just go to the dermatologist and they can give him a prescription- topical cream or pills or both.

I'm not sure if this is it... but it sounds like the same thing my cousin has. When she has a mole that grew on her nose also. its large (about the size of a pencil eraser), redish/purple and very noticeable. The Drs. told her the reason for the color is because the root of the mole is in the blood line. It could be something similar.

Head to the local doc. It may be what I have and that is a broken blood vessel under the surface. I have two spots on one side of my nose and now am getting one on the other side. They are common enough and doesn't take much to deal with them though if it is tiny the doc probably won't bother doing anything as yet (as in my case). Putting sunscreen on it and limiting sun exposure has helped. Good luck to ya!

You may think I'm crazy M., but my husband used to get cystic boils. My mother, god rest her soul told him to eat raisins. He started eating those little boxes occasionally and low and behold, he has never had another. He had them regularly.

I'm not sure what it could be, but I do know what you could do. I've read a lot about the amazing properties of activated charcoal. It draws the fluid out of pimples and boils like the one you just described. Check out this website: www.buyactivatedcharcoal.com. Just look around at all the amazing things it can do. It may be worth a try. I subscribe to their newsletter. There's so much information! I'm just amazed at all the cool natural things there are to learn. Good luck!

Hi M.!

Please check out the following website and go to photos, There is a gentleman on there that had some red lesions. There are before and after photos. If it is something like the man has on his face those are pre cancerous. Also, having had both basal cell and squamos cell cancer, I am very familiar with what can happen. I wish I would have had the Glimpse and the mangosteen juice before I had to have surgery on my face. Any questions please feel free to e-mail me at ____@____.com

Hi M.,

It could be an ingrown hair that's gotten infected under the skin. I've seen this before, it's ugly and nasty and until the hair works it way out it isn't likely to get better.

It could also be bad acne, I've seen that before, too. If it doesn't resolve itself a visit to a doc may be in order to help lance it out and make sure it isn't something else.

Good luck!

Take him to a dermatologist to have it looked at. A friend of mine's grandson had a spot that looked like a pimple on his cheek, when they had it checked out it was a little spot of skin cancer. I really, really don't mean to panic you-- I'm just saying better to be safe than sorry.

I have a friend that had a pimple that grew under the skin and the doc had to remove the fluid from it so it would drain.

My suggestion would be to go to the doctor.

Good luck:)
