What Does Your 8 Year Old Want for Christmas?

I am starting to think about getting ready for Christmas. Our daughter is 3 so she is easy to please. Our son is 8 and he is not giving me many ideas about things he wants. I know his grandparents will ask for ideas soon and I have none to give them! He never sees commercials (we only watch shows on Netflix) or else I'm sure he'd have a lot of ideas. We live in a small town with no shopping so it's not like I can take him in a Target to see what toys are there. Please let me know what your 8 year old son is wishing for for Christmas this year! Thank you!

What can I do next?

We do an Amazon wishlist for each kid. They can pick out what they want on there and then Grandma and auntie pick what they want to buy. Most items are free shipping if you spend 25 dollars.

My son is into all listed below but he also loves Beyblades and Pokemon stuff. Have you seen Magnatiles and Snap circuits? Those are great things to have.

check out this website - http://www.squidoo.com/top-10-toys-for-8-year-old-boys#mo...

I sat with my 8 year old and had him google toys and pick a few from the list. It worked well!

I also like the idea of planning a day together, lunch, the zoo, etc. I plan to do that for my littles.

Each year, we also donate to one of our local community organizations - we bring old and new toys and food for them to give away at Christmas. That is always a good time.

I have a 9 and 11 year old, so I'm in the same boat. I'll be watching your post!

That said, I can tell you what I got both of my boys last year that has been THE BEST gift I've purchased....ever.

I bought them each an iPod Touch. The 8GB model. Their grandma bought the cases for them (OtterBox for iPod Touch) in different colors. :-)

These are, bar none, the best gifts ever. Don't bother with Nintendo DSes...the iPod Touch is about the same price, BUT games are free (some are 99 cents or, at the very most, $4.99). It's SUCH a savings compared to other game systems. I can treat them to a new game once a month! And, if you also have an Apple device, all the stuff you've already gotten can be shared. And my kids share the games. Plus, they can access Netflix, Pandora, the weather, a calendar, and alarm clock...they can TEXT ME when they're in Wifi using iMessage...the possibilites are amazing. It's the first gift I've gotten them that hasn't ended up under their bed or in the bottom of the toybox after 3 months.

If you can't already tell, I'm really happy with this purchase.

But I still don't know what to get them this year. :-)

ETA: Just to add, from a parenting standpoint, the boys aren't allowed to have their iPods during the week/on school nights. They only play them on the weekend, AFTER chores are all done. We believe in healthy limits and priorities. If you do get your child an iPod Touch, be prepared with strict rules regarding their usage. :-)

My little boy is 19 now, but at that age he was still really into Legos, and Nerf guns!
He also liked books, especially comic books or graphic novels. I think that's the age he was reading a lot of Roald Dahl.
He also loved video and computer games, some educational but not all of them! Oh and he loved to make movies with our family video camera. A Flip video camera could be a fun "big" gift.
Boys are really hard to buy for. They just don't seem to need a lot of stuff, which is a good thing, but it can make gift giving hard.
Would he be interested in a nice art set? Or a microscope or a pocketknife? What about sports gear, or a new bike or skates or a Big Wheels, something like that?

My 8 y/o wants a Kindle, an ipod, the Skylanders starter pack for the Wii and golf clubs.
Oh, and a telescope so he can go out on the roof and check out the stars. We live in the country and it's quite beautiful on a clear night.

An airsoft gun is what my 8 yr old wants.

Can you let him browse the Toys R Us or Target website and make a Christmas list?

LEGOS! Seems to be a popular thing. My son is really into the Ninjago series right now.

I have let my son surf on the Target, Kmart and Toys R Us website to see what he likes. Maybe you can try that since you can't just take him to the store.

I am also considering a microscope since my son is very into science. He likes the magic kit he got last year, too. Nerf type guns always go over well. Is he into painting or maybe some wooden crafts, like a bird feeder kit?

So far, he is letting me know about Lego Star Wars sets he likes. I think he's hinting...lol. He also mentioned a WII game but I think I'll hold off on that one.

I also have an 8 year old so its a little difficult getting them to talk about stuff like that.

Board games can be pretty popular at this age, as are video games. Legos are still popular, especially the Ninjago line.

Grandparents also love to buy Discovery Toys - they remember them from when their own children were kids and they know they are good quality. Please consider looking at my Discovery Toys link and sending it to your parents. You and your son can make a wish list together of all the fun games and toys we have for kids his age (some of my favorites for 8 year old boys are Wiz Kidz, Tricky Fingers, and Number Rings). The new How to be a Detective book also looks pretty cool. Visit my page at http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao You can purchase directly through my site. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks

Well-has he started/learned to ski? Maybe skis, lessons and a ski pass? I, too, grew up in a tiny town and when we were little we got ski stuff, passes, ice skates, cold weather clothing, boots, etc for Xmas.

Today would have been, had he lived, my brother's 58th birthday and I can still remember how excited he was when we came out of our rooms on Christmas morning, and saw the magnificent train-set all arranged with the little village, houses, buildings, people, etc-it was magic! Last Christmas-my dear BIL resurrected the platform, engines, everything-bought a ton of new stuff, set it all up and my children-all grown , just loved it! Crying now-going to be with the parents for dinner-this is such a hard day for us-my brother was killed by a drunk driver when , God love him, he was only 23 years old. He was raised to be , and was , always a gentleman-bright, athletic, thoughtful, funny, a born businessman-an Adonis. Was well known in our community, and so loved. Thank you for enduring my response-I guess I'm trying to say-buy something that will someday be an heirloom or get/do something that will go on and on. Something enduring. xo.

My son is also 8. Does yours like to skateboard or ride a bike? We got our son a little ramp that is plastic that he can set up in our driveway. He rides his bike on it and skateboard. My son loves Legos, espcially the Monster Fighter ones. He also loves Hex Bugs and you can get a whole habitat for them. If he likes to read you can get him a few good book series like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series, How to Train Your Dragon. Or maybe a magazine subscription to Highlights, my son loves getting mail every month.
