As shy and quiet as my daughter is she makes M. smile from ear to ear because her choice in clothes is often so loud=)
I knew this was coming from early on when she was 9 months old and she would wake up to yell, Dress, Hat, Tap Shoes, bow! and keep repeating until I had her dressed
Her outfits consist of tights/stockings (varying colors)
fancy dresses are her favorite (she used to like the big poufy princess type ones now at 5 shes going sophisticated and ones a ball gown type of dress
heels or cow girl boots
and a bow or flower headband on top of her head
Lately shes been devestated (this is an understatement lol) each morning b/c her specials schedule at school is off b/c of her play this week so I don't know what day gym day is, so she's had to wear sneakers every day
Also she thinks its very unfair that only adults can wear strapless dresses and would like to change that!
She'd like to change a lot, I can remember at 2 at Olive garden she told the waitress that ties on girls were not right, they called the manager over and she stood up on her seat and told him, then sang the strawberry shortcake theme song to them--lol I can still remember it like it was yesterday, they took their ties off for her visit and gave her an employee badge
Today she exited the house in "regular clothes" and was unhappy, she wanted to atleast wear cowgirl boots with her shorts and dressy top but I refused b/c of the gym thing
so apparently before going to her dads shes asked we stop home (we live 10 feet from the school) so she can put on heels and a silver sparkly gown (thank god for consignment sales)
Last week she wanted to wear a spiderman costume to school, today it was that dress in heels or pajamas=)
I'm wondering if this will fade eventually although as much as aI fight it I hope it doesn't)

Jo- Emmy acts like a boy in her dress on the playground. shes always in mud or upside down in them =) thats why i buy used- i figure if she destroys it shes probably used th $3 cost way up before then
Steph-Love the batman costume- i remember arnd halloween people always asked if Emmy was going to a Halloween party because she was always so dressed up
2txtots- lol that sounds like Emmy at 2 lol. i cant say its gotten better, although she can dress herself now
LOL! This is the second post about Emmy I've read and I have to say: Get this girl into drama/acting/dance classes! She sounds like she has a real love for the spotlight!
When my kids were 9 months old? Onesies. All the time. And they wore them until I could no longer find them in their sizes.
Today, at ages 9 and 10, my boys are...well, boys. I'm J. happy if their clothes look and smell clean.
Today? It is his brothers old Wolverine Halloween costume. He came out this morning dressed in it ready to face the day. He is five. Love it! I remember in my older sons kindergarten class there was a girl that wore an animal tail every day. I saw her mother recently (they J. graduated high school) and she assured M. that her daughter no longer does that. : )
I was J. joking about this with my friends.
My son (4) would stay in his PJ's all day, every day, if I let him. Preferably ones with long pants and long sleeve shirts, which is ridiculous since we live in Texas.
Last Saturday we needed to go to the grocery store. J out on crocs with his PJ's and was good to go. I tried to get my daughter M (2 1/2) to do the same (quick trip), and she threw a fit. When I asked what she wanted, she stripped her PJ's off, asked for her Minnie shirt, a sequined tutu, her sparkley Mary-Janes, her Minnie purse with her coin purse and plastic cell phone inside, Princess backpack with her bear, blankey, and bunny in it, two bracelets, a plastic silver ring, and three sets of Mardi Gras beads. Then she looked down at herself, decided she had one strand of beads too many, took it off, and exclaimed "Perfect! Let's go shopping!" with a huge smile on her face.
sigh... the drama of it all, and the years ahead. ;)
My 2 year old: he loves superman pjs that are getting too small and showing his little belly, and he runs into things because while running around, he's looking backwards trying to make sure his cape is "flying". With that, he likes a black cowboy hat, a little kids "letterman's jacket", a purple Mardi Gras bead, and either cowboy boots or his brother's (too big) tennis shoes. He tries to wear that outfit constantly. I don't dress him like this. He takes off his clothes (even if it takes a little effort) and dresses "his ownself" like that.
My 5 year old always had slightly better fashion sense: he likes to be a little prep sometimes, with the khaki shorts and a polo shirt, but if it's cold he insists he "needs" to wear the camo pants, camo shirt, and an army helmet he bought with his own money. Dog tags, regardless of what he's wearing.
It varies. Right now she's in a pj top, the top half of a princess costume and underpants. She is big into wearing skirts and dresses, so I'll put leggings on her when we go out. But she's an interesting little person - she also loves dinosaurs and superheroes so she's J. as likely to head out in a Spiderman hoodie or insist on the shoe covers from her dinosaur costume.
I let her wear pretty much whatever she wants if it is appropriate for the weather or occasion. The last time she went to the grocery store in the hoodie, she ran into a boy getting a Spiderman hat, his very approving big sister, and a kid who was wearing a full-on Spidey costume with muscles over his Sunday best (but he had the mask off). It was a little Spidey convention in the checkout.
It may or may not fade. The other day my SD left the house in a bright pink tank top, black hoodie, black and hot pink pettiskirt, two different argyle knee socks and blue sparkle Chucks. All I can say is, "That's our girl." There are far worse ways she could dress.
My 4 year old would wear her bright green St. Patty's day shirt every day if I let her. She carries around 2 dvd cases (willy wonka and little rascals) and they are her "friends". One day I made her change out of the green shirt into a purple one and she turned the dvds upside down and told them not to look. I asked her why they can't look and she said that they don't like her wearing girl clothes! Lol.
She's also loving her spongebob pjs and her Spongebob tee and she hates wearing pants of any kind. They're off her butt as soon as we walk in the door!

I have 2 boys...my oldest couldn't care less what he wears (he prefers sweats/track pants over jeans). J. throws on whatever he can find first.
My youngest, who is almost 4, would wear his Batman costume everywhere if I let him. He also changes his clothes 3-4x daily. Sometimes its sweats, sometimes jeans or shorts. I never know what he'll come up with next!
EDIT: I can't believe I forgot!!! But my youngest has a black suit with a pink dress shirt and pink, black, silver tie that he loves to wear and pretend he is Bruce Wayne :) tries to wear that thing daily! I hide it in the dirty clothes and he will go and dig it out.
Sounds like my daughter, who J. turned 5. She has to wear tennis shoes everyday too and she is none too happy about it. But we've compromised and I told her that any other time she can wear whatever shoes she wants and I won't make her wear a certain thing. So she is even more excited at night or weekends because she gets to pick her boots or dressy shoes to wear. She wears skirts/dresses nearly everyday. Shorts under them or leggins/tights when it's cold.
Sounds like your daughter has her own sense of style. I would totally encourage it.
my three year old dressed as pooh bear for last halloween, and everytime he sees the outfit in his closet (I am keeping it for his younger sister) he wants to put it on...even when its 80 degrees out!
My oldest when he was younger did not care and for the most part doesn't too much but would be happy if he had enough camo cloths for that he could be in it every day. He's 13. My 9 year old when he was little did not really care. But here recently more and more will get upset because we got a shirt out for him that he did't want to wear. Or will ask him what he wants to wear and he says I don't care then we get something out and he throws a fit. I am so thankful for boys cause I would not know what to do with all the frilly stuf in my house. My friens daughter from before she could talk if she tired to put the wrong thing on her she would scream.
I raise tomboys. :p They wore dresses but I had to make sure they were dresses you could climb in, that you wouldn't be upset if they were destroyed.
Still pretty much the same.
Both of them have the strangest taste in clothes but it works for them.
My 4 1/2 year old insisted she wear her ruby red, sparkling sun visor (over her hair), and her to die for, red sunglasses this morning.
My son LOVES to dress like his father - Rocker style t-shirts/boot cut style jeans. He does not like plain t-shirts and if it is sleeveless all the better! He has always been this way - partly my influence seeing that is what I dressed him in for the most part.
