rolled oats, 1 T wheat germ, 1 T ground flaxseed, 1/4 scoop vanilla protein powder and fresh fruit. My husband adds cinnamon to his as well. It is clean eating for an eat clean lifestyle but is very yummy :)
Hello moms,
I have been having the same oatmeal for months! a table spoon of peanut butter and some maple syrup. it is delicious but I need to shake things up a bit.
What do you put on your oatmeal?
I use regular rolled oats, cook it on the stove top with water. I use a little less water than suggested because I really don't like it too mushy.
Thanks for all the responses! keep them coming! I think I might have to make a trip to the store to get some new toppings!

Fresh fruit (my fav = peaches), banana, nuts, honey, brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins or cranberries. Sometimes for a special treat I might swirl a little chocolate syrup on top!
Chopped pecans and raisins (or cranberries). Sometimes chopped dried apricots or prunes. A little applesauce for sweetness.
You didn't say if you cook your oatmeal on the stove or in the microwave, but this is my favorite way of doing it:
I cook it on the stove with milk instead of water. While the milk is being brought up to a bubble I add a couple Tbsp. of coconut & a handful of chopped pecans, then I follow the regular instructions. Because the coconut is sweet & it is warmed in the milk it kind of infuses the oatmeal so it doesn't need any additional sugar. I've been known to feed the kids leftovers & make this oatmeal for myself for dinner on nights when my husband is working late!
I like butter and salt on mine :)
I put flaxseed in my oatmeal too, but then I cover it in warmed blueberries or blackberries and then a very generous topper of brown sugar.
Berries are always wonderful in oatmeal. Blueberries, strawberries, black berries, rasp berries..... MMMMM...... Now I'm hungry! Also banannas & nuts.
Unsweetened applesauce, 2T Chia seeds, 10 almonds, and a little stevia
My sister the nutrionist always reccomends ground up flax seeds in oatmeal. Doesn't change the flavor but supposedly really good for you. I love a little cinammon and diced apples in my oatmeal.
Nestle Tollhouse Morsels? :-)
There is an article on Figure Athlete website with a bunch of really yummy (and healthy) oatmeal recipes like Rasberry Swirl Cheesecake Oatmeal, Cheesy Bacon Oatmeal, Pumpkin Oaktmeal with Sunflower Seed Butter.

For added FULLNESS and protein (great option when you're trying to diet)- add in a 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder, cinnamon, cut up dried peaches or apricots, and some milk. I use the designer whey from Trader Joes. :)
Cinnamon, 1 tsp brown sugar, & raisins.
Dried cranberries with pumpkin puree & sugar/cinnamon to taste
1 tsp Honey & milk to taste.
Cinnamon & 1 tsp maple syrup.
1 TBL sugar free jam/preserves-strawberry, peach, any berry kind
Carmel Machiatto or Pumpkin Spice creamer to taste.
BTW- if you take a TBL of raisins, cook them in an inch or two of water (in a cup) in the mic (30 secs)- they are juicy & plump and taste extra yummy when you eat them in something like oatmeal.
Anyway, these are just some of the ways I make oatmeal for my family. I have yet to hear any groans. LOL.
:-)
What kind of oatmeal do you use? Years ago I switched to quick cooking (5 min.) Irish oatmeal (a.k.a steel cut oats) and would never go back to regular. It has more flavor and texture. I usually just go with cinnamon, brown sugar and skim milk, but have done various berries, craisins, raisins, pecans, walnuts.
Butter, maple syrup, raisins, and pecans. Yummmmmmmy!
Applesauce, raisins and brown sugar. Even the kids love it and sometimes without the sugar.
blueberries or brown sugar and cinnamon
I cook it on the stove too with cinnamon (to taste), lots of raisins and a touch of sugar. I like a raisin in every bite! I like a thicker oatmeal too and I do not use any milk on it after it is cooked.
I use the regular rolled oats cooked in the microwave with Rice Milk (1/4C, 1/2C, 3 minutes on high). It makes the oatmeal sweeter than regular milk and I usually stir in unsweetened applesauce. Also chopped dried apricots and chopped pecans.
Cinnamon and Splenda (I guess I'm boring too!)
I like using half milk, half water for stove top oatmeal, and add some chopped apples, cinnamon, raisins or craisins, and sunflower seeds.
mmmmmmOatmeal with cinnamon and sugar! or maple syrup, or brown sugar.... and with raisins cooked inside, or dates or dates and topped with nuts, or sunflower seeds..Sounds so good. I had never tried the peanut butter, but that sounds so good too. Oatmeal is so good with so many things.!!
Any kind of dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, blueberries, apricots, etc.) or some yogurt or even some granola.
I like to cook it with 1/2 milk, 1/2 water. It's creamier. I put on walnuts and brown sugar.
I cook my oatmeal, any variety: steel cut, 5 minute, 1 minute with Vanilla Soymilk, chopped apples and cinnamon to taste, pinch of salt, top with a little butter and brown sugar or maple/agave syrups. Once the cinnamon lid slipped off and about 1/2 a bottle dumped into the oats. We all loved it. So add away - it's so healthy for you.
I cut up an apple in small pieces and add however many looks good. I also add cinnamon and some sugar. Yum!
Blueberries and/or nuts.
I use only the five minute old fashioned oats. As soon as I put the oatmeal into the water, I add some cut up apple (I leave the skin on, but you can peel them if you wish.) I also add a teaspoonful of cinnamon. When it's done, use either milk or a pat of butter in it. I personally prefer the butter, but other family members like milk.
My new favorite is steel cut oats, truvia (or sweetener of choice) chopped walnuts, frozen blueberries and cinnamon. Very healthy and so tasty!
I add chopped almonds (protein) and raisins, it's great! PS I started microwaving my oatmeal, makes it quick and easy.
raisins
nuts
agrave syrup
dates
yummy!
brown sugar and pecans
sometimes dried cranberries too.
Yum!
We make our thick-rolled oats in the rice cooker at night, set the timer and wake up to warm oatmeal. I chop up prunes so they soften and sweeten while it's cooking. Give it a stir before serving so one person doesn't end up with all the toppings though :) Some folks use the crock pot as a water bath to do the same thing... enjoy experimenting!
You could put Nutella (a hazelnut, chocolate spread) in. You could keep your peanut butter and just add the Nutella as well. Ooo banana would be good in that one too! Brown sugar and nuts (walnuts, pecans, etc.) is good. You could also add craisins or raisins to the last one. I like the idea of chips...white chocolate chips, dark chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch...so many ways to make it! :) Hope this helps!
Growing up we put either maple and brown sugar, or butter and honey. Yum.
Hi,
I use rolled oats daily too. I cook with a teaspoon of brown sugar, dash of cinnamon, and a handful of frozen blueberries.
Having blueberries and cinnamon in your daily diet is a super bonus.
cranberries and walnuts or sliced bananas and a little honey and milk.
Never thought of using peanut butter... im gonna have to try that, mine is kind of boring, i just add whole milk, butter, sugar, and syrup... i am not a health nut, but i am gonna try peanut butter next... all that other stuff it too much.
Quick cooking steel-cut oats (McCann's?) made with milk, not water. Then I add a whole cup of TJs frozen organic wild blueberries to a single serving. No sugar needed b/c the blueberries are so sweet! My kids love this and the frozen blueberries cool off the oatmeal to a kid-friendly temperature immediately. Delicious and extremely healthy.
raisins or dates while cooking the oats and cinnamon, or I LOVE malt powder and whole milk and a little powdered milk for added protein. I am going to have to try the PB.
I chop up fresh strawberries and blackberries and mix them in with a little bit of brown sugar! Adding in some plain yogurt too in the mix is really good.
I use quick oats, and while it cooks for that short little minute,, I put a couple tablespoons of ground flax seed in the bowl and a small scoop of brown sugar. Then once the oatmeal is done, I stir it in the flax/sugar, and top it with a handful of honey almond granola. It gives it a nice crunch along with the soft oatmeal. Sometimes I have granola with raisons. Keep in mind the oatmeal is a breakfast and so is the gronola so you are adding a bunch more calories...but really yummy and stays with me a lot longer than any other breakfast.
I buy quick cooking steel cut oats, and cook them in apple juice, to add sweetness without pure sugar. If you need more sweetness, I would add local honey.
We just put honey on ours. I guess that is kind of boring too!
Agave nectar and cinnamon.
I'm a health nut. :)
Raisons, nuts and brown sugar.
Enjoy!
I use a little butter some brown sugar but my favorite part is the raisens, I add the raisens when it is cooking and they get plump and soft ...so yummy!
My youngest son likes it with the cups of diced peaches poured in, because of the sweetness of the syrup that the peaches are in no need to add any sugar, just a dash of cinnamon and yum yum yum! My oldest son is big on blueberries and likes his with extra milk...I think you can add just about anything, I have even used dried cranberries and been happy with the result. When I have not had any fruit on hand fresh or dried I have added a spoon of jam = )
I love, love, love steel cut oatmeal, but it takes a long time to cook, so I make it in the crockpot before I go to bed and it is ready in the morning when I get up. I have a small crock pot that works really well for this, and just cook it on low.
I use 4 parts liquid to 1 part steel cut oats, and I usually use at least some milk or half and half in place of some of the water. I've also heard that apple juice can be substituted for some of the water, but I've never tried it. I include a pinch of salt, and in the morning I usually add a bit more milk, brown sugar and dried cherries, but fresh fruit is great too.
