Its not what I put in them.... It is what I wish I could put in them.....If I were only ten years younger and childless;p...They would be magical;p
My boys will be coming home to visit in a couple of weeks...since I'm alone, i don't make many desserts...
I'd like to make some brownies...I usually add walnuts to them. What do you add to yours?
I freeze a lot of stuff so that I can just take it out and use it when needed - makes life easier when you are alone. Can I freeze brownies too?
Okay!! They are made!! I ate one - I put chocolate chunks in them - oooh my!! I need to have them cooled off so I can freeze them!! I can't keep those around too!!!
cayenne pepper? REALLY?!
I freeze my chocolate chip cookies. I make brownies for my boys (men now!) but they are usually gone in a day...I was hoping to make some and freeze them..
Peanut butter! YUMMY!!
Chocolate chips? ooh man!! i'll have to go running with my boys!!!
Its not what I put in them.... It is what I wish I could put in them.....If I were only ten years younger and childless;p...They would be magical;p
I giggled when I read this question. I haven't had a "special" brownie in years but now that I have a kid, we buy the Ghirardelli chocolate brownie mix from Costco and it's pretty divine just the way it is.
Now I want brownies...just remember what Paula Deen says...."if one stick of butter is good, twos gotta be better".
If this question didn't involve kids, it could be dangerous. LOL
I love butterscotch chips.
I also often buy a box of fudge brownies from the box - the kind that has chocolate syrup in it. I like to pour them into muffin paper cups. It's easier than cutting brownies up where you lose half the brownie b/c it sticks to the knife. A guy can just grab a 'muffin brownie' and snack - easy!
B's answer has me remembering that I have a recipe for brownies- it calls for two boxes of Ghirardelli Brownie Mix and three extra large Symphony Milk Chocolate Bars with almonds and toffee. Basically - you prepare brownies as it says on the box, preparing each mix in a separate bowl. Spread one prepared mix in a greased 9x13 pan. top batter with candy bars, then top with the other prepared mix. Bake 40 min - no longer. Cool completely before slicing. SOOOO yummy and SOOO rich.
@ Jo: Check this out. Bought it for my dad for his bday (more corners):

Would've bought this one but it was too pricey (all edges):

Whatever I have handy: peanut butter, cream cheese, marshmallow cream (that was interesting because it caramelized into a weird mess but it was delicious), caramel, walnuts, pecans, peppermint patties, peppermint sticks, butterscotch chips, coconut, hot fudge, chocolate chips, yellow cake batter (for a marble brownie)...OK now I'm hungry.
I just made these last week... everything the Pioneer Woman makes is soooooo good!

"Deliciously Deceptive" by Jessica Seinfeld (wife of Jerry) is a cookbook full of recipes that use veggie and fruit purees hidden in the foods so that you would never guess that they actually contained things that were good for you. There is a recipe in there that has brownies made with carrot plus either broccoli or spinach. A mom made them for my daughter's preschool class last year. I tasted one and you couldn't even tell - they were awesome!
I found a recipe on All Recipes.com for Irish Creme brownies that I made for St. Patty's Day - they have Bailey's in them, as well as in the icing, and they were to die for.
Of course, I couldn't help but giggle a little bit when I read your title - not that I would ever do THAT but I've treated dogs that have accidentally gotten a hold of "magic brownies"!
Darn it, I want a brownie now...
I am a classic brownie kinda gal. I think you can freeze them but don't quote me on that.
Funny thing I love the corners, my little ones like the middles and the older two love the outside. This is why I have no idea if they freeze well. :p
chocolate chips are AMAZING in brownies! and yes you can freeze them, but for a really yummy treat i would just freeze the batter- then they are fresh-baked when you need them.
I add cayeen pepper in mine yummy!!
Pecans, if I'm putting nuts in them, but if you really want to go off the deep end, pour half of your batter into the pan, then top with a layer of your favorite candy bars (chop them if they are really thick) and pour over the rest of the batter.
Ridiculous.
Everything is better with peanut butter swirled through!!
C'mon! The chocolate questions today are KILLIN' me!
I'd freeze them, they may even be MOISTER (hate that word) after they've been frozen!
I love to cook, but I can't bake to save my life. :(
:)
I usually just make boring old brownies. But last time I took them out five minutes early and topped them with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips and crushed graham crackers....s'more brownies. Pu them back in the oven for that last five minutes to finish baking and melt everything. They were a big hit at a party recently. And yes, you can absolutely freeze brownies. I like to bake them in muffin tins when I am going to freeze. That way I have ready to go portions and they seem to do better. Plus I can pull out just the amount I need. I have done it with mini muffin and regular sized muffin pans. Works great.
If they're coffee house fiends, add some cut up unsweetened dark chocolate chunks or cocao chunks along with a demi-tasse of espresso to the mix before pouring into the pan and baking. Top with a light dusting of powdered sugar. If you use a stencil, the design left by powdered sugar looks really cool.
Our daughter says she likes them plain and moist.
My husband says he likes them with big chunks of pecans.
I do not care for choco chips because they just taste like chocolate chips and are not melty.. I guess I could heat them in a microwave.
And yes, they freeze great.
Chocolate chips.
Almost makes them more like a candy bar than a brownie but it's sinfully delicious!
So I really want brownies now. I love brownies, especially doctored up.
I usually make them from a box, quick and easy. Sometimes I add chocolate chips or m&ms.
or
Vanilla Frosting on top and then either sprinkles or mini chocolate chips on top
or the best ever!
Make the brownines then top with marshmellow creme and then top that with chocolate frosting.
Enjoy with a HUGE glass of milk and it's the best there can be. :)
OMG just the title "What do you put in your brownies?" brought back lots of memories of college...... Apparently I'm not the only one :-0
I sprinkle powdered sugar on my box made brownies. I also sometimes put vanilla icing, from a can, on them. I use my pampered chef gadget to put a dollop on each brownie then sprinkle jimmies/sprinkles on the icing.
Personally, I would just make them fresh since it only takes about 5 minutes plus cooking time.
Walnuts, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, chopped toffee, m&ms.... Chopped candy canes are good and festive too, but not too much b/c the mint can be overpowering. Best used as a topper.
LMAO glad to scan through the responses and see that I am not the only one who had something ELSE come to mind when I read, "what do you put in your brownies." hahaha
sweet potatoes or pumpkin can be good too.
OMG - give me a brownie now! I'm pregnant and craving everything - ha ha. I must admit that I do not make mine from scratch - I use the box. I don't ask for nuts in brownies, but I'll eat them that way if offered. Brownies with frosting on top are good too, but more calories. Either way, your kiddos will love whichever way you make them :) And I would say freezing them is okay too. I wouldn't keep them in the freezer for more than a month though. I've never tried it, but I can't imagine freezing would hurt them. Have fun with your kids!
cayenne might be good...also I just use a knife and spread cream cheese or peanut butter across the top before baking. I can't stand nuts in my brownies personally! They're meant to be soft and chewy in my opinion :)
I put mini chocolate chips in mine, so good. I haven't had much success with freezing brownies, they tend to dry out on me. If you have a way to seal them well, though, you can see how it works for you.
I top mine w/ m&m's sometimes! I also have a recipe for peanut butter brownies, but I have a child in my daycare who has a peanut allergy, so I don't get to make it! And you can never go wrong w/ good ol' gooey frosting! :)
