We are looking into a full-time nanny in our home for our 4 month old. We would love someone who would be able to assist in small chores around the house, also. What is the going rate?

I pay my nanny $12/hr. She has an education degree and recently moved here. She was a nanny during her college years for infants and toddlers. She has 4 years experience. I will lose her when gets a teaching position, but she is working out great right now. She cleans up in the kitchen after lunch/feedings and puts all the toys away before/when we get home, but she really doesn't do any chores around the house. She has been very flexible about staying the extra hour on occassion when I need it.

I live in Carrollton and she lives in Plano. She said she normally charges between $10 & $12, but because of the drive, would want the $12/hr. I felt like she was worth it. My daughter took her right away and she is very caring.

Hope that helps.

I have a live in nanny who is originally from Turkey. She has been a nanny for 10 years and is absolutely wonderful with my daughter. She cleans and makes dinner when Olivia is sleeping and takes her job very seriously. I pay her $350 wk and she lives in/eats with us. I have a set schedule each week and we are flexible on extra days off against any travel I do. For live out I would say $10-12 per hour is the going rate. Other option to consider is a nanny share if you can make that work -- 2 children make the nanny decision easier, 1 is financially more difficult.
Try using an agency if you are willing to pay a fee for their screening. Otherwise, I have used on line services which are great (you do the background and screening). GreatAuPair.com or GoNannies. I have had good luck with GoNannies.com

Hello N.,

I have been doing some research as well and it appears that the going rate is $400/wk or $10/hr for fulltime work.. and that seems to be the low end. I am looking for a nanny for my 3-month old soon who is currently in home daycare. His caregiver is sweet, but I would prefer more one-on-one care. It would be great to find another family with which to do a nanny-share arrangement with. This is what I am working on at the moment.

We use an au pair (which is a little different, since they live with you) and it averages $270/week (the price is the same for 1-4 kids). They do help with other things, like cooking, laundry, etc.
