Both my daughters attend once per week and I pay $115/month for both. The gym we go to is large with all kinds of equipment that they are too little to use yet. Wondering if any of you had better luck on pricing if you went to smaller gyms with less equipment. Ballet studios must have cheaper overhead, do you find ballet classes more affordable than gymnastics or about the same?
I pay $45 a month per kid for dance classes, and a similar amount for gymnastics. Dance classes are at a studio, gymnastics at a gym.
My 3-year-old takes ballet, and my 6-year-old takes tumbling/cheerleading at the same studio. Each has one class/week, and the total is $95 per month ($10/month family discount).
We also had a $55 each costume fee for the recital at the end of the year, and a $45 family recital fee (that covers both girls).
My daughter is two and in a parent & me gymnastics class. It is $55/month, based on a four week month. If there is a fifth class in the month, then the cost goes up by $13.75 for the month. So basically, it amounts to $13.75 per 45 minute class. I think the slightly older girls might pay a bit more ($15-16 per class), for an hour long class.
Wow, martial arts are much much cheaper...we pay $100 for both kids a month and they can go anytime a class meets...we go about three days a week...so eight classes a week for the kids total...32 classes a month for $100. Wow, that's only $3.12 per hour class (in that they have regular class, sparring class, weapons class, and a cardio class). Regular class also has falling techniques and a gymnastic componant (shoulder rolls, cartwheels, spins, etc).
I was thinking about adding a dance class once a week for my daughter and it would be almost the same as what I pay now for unlimited classes.
Look into a good martial arts studio...my husband reapeated tells me that dance will not do out 19 year old daughter alone in that parking garage as much good as martials will do for her in the same situation. (But I would love to see her dance and in the cute costumes too...so I understand...)
Maybe one day she can do both....
Oh, and our martial arts classes are at least half girls....
if your daughters are young and just starting out put them into a park district or ywca program instead of the fancy schools. the fancy schools are great not knocking them but for bitty ballet and the very early dance classes when they are just learning whether they love it or not park distric programs at least here in our area run about $100 bucks for the 16 week class. they do the first class in the fall, then a break then the next 16 week thing and the recital is in the spring. do the bigger "dance studio" thing later when they are older. same goes for gymnastics

Then, per lessons, sometimes, an additional sibling is at a discounted rate.
How bad, do they want to do gymnastics?
Or are they just toddlers and this is a "toddler gymnastic" activity thing... versus real older kid gymnastics?
Ballet is not necessarily cheaper.
And then you also have to pay for performances/costumes etc.
If a child is really young, say a Toddler, you might want to just have them in toddler play classes with Mommy, type thing. It may very well be cheaper.
My daughter did that dance thing when she was younger.
It was expensive. Luckily, she wasn't interested in that as a lifer.
She likes and loves, Karate.
And this, is "cheap."

And this is for 2 classes per week that is 1.5 hours long.
And any siblings is at a discounted rate.
Yes! My daughter is five. We pay $40 a month for ballet and $65 for gymnastics.
We pay $70 a month for gymnastics once a week class for an hour. Dance is $10 for a 45 minute class and $12 for an hour class. Hope this helps !
Weekly dance classes here are around $70-$80 per month.
No gymnasts in our house but we have friends who were heavily involved. Competitions plus 2-3 classes per week ran them 10K per kid per year! Funny thing is none of those kids are doing gymnastics anymore and I have to wonder if it was worth it. Come to think of it maybe that's why we have no gymnasts in our house!
For my two girls in ballet, we pay $120/month total. I have never found that ballet is cheaper than gymnastics...
Y gymnastics I pay $30 for 7 weeks. A club gym would be $60 a month plus yearly registration fee. Our Y does have a ton of stuff, but is still fun. One of the gyms does open gym for $5 for an hour and a half, which is a great deal too. No instructor or structure, but we fi to one that is just for preschoolers.
I don't know about gymnastics, but we are ballet-crazed in this household. For my 10 year old, who is in pre-pointe and takes ~6 hours of ballet per week, we pay $185/month for ballet and $35/month for tap (so $220/month total for her). For my 7 year old, who takes 1 hour of ballet per week, we pay $75/month, and for her 1.5 hour tap/musical theater class, it's $45/month, so she's $120/month total. My grand total per month for ballet/tap/musical theater is $340 (assuming there aren't any master classes, which are extra).
I don't think it's so much the equipment that drives the price, but the quality of instruction. In order to avoid injury and create the best muscle memory/good habits, it's important to go to the best studio/gym you can afford.
I pay $50 per month for 1 hour per week. 2 hours per week is $88, 3 hours is $105, then after that it only costs $15 more per month. So if the kids took 5 hours per week between the 2 of them we'd only pay $135 per month.
Some other places have it where once you reach a certain amount of hours you can just pay one price and go to every class they offer.
My daughter does gymnastics twice a week and I pay $150 a month.
Gymnastics is $500 for each semester for about 18 classes.
We pay $180 per 10 week session for our daughters (1 class each 1 x a week). One is in ballet and the other in jazz/hip hop. So, $360 every 10 weeks.
We were in gymnastics long ago, but it was slightly cheaper. $150 per 10 week session.
We pay $172/9 wk session at well equipped gymnastics place.
My daughters gymnastic class started out at $122 for 8 weeks. That is for a class 1x a week for an hour. She moved up now so its a bit more. For kids younger than 5 its around $75-$105 for 8 weeks. This is at a well know gymnastic place in our area.
In my experience dance can be much cheaper depending on the dance studio you sign up with. When my daughters were in dance it was around $35 a month for each of them but by far not the greatest dance studio that is in the area. I just wanted them to have fun. At some dance places you can even sign your daughters up with a gymnastic class that could be cheaper. But yes, overall its all expensive as they keep getting older, especially gymnastics.
I'm trying to get my youngest daughter interested in soccer or some type of sport. As she has done gymnastics too, but her heart isn't in it like my oldest and the expense for both of them is crazy ridiculous!
