the UT sports and art camps are good
For after school care, winter/summer breaks and teacher holidays? Our LO will be starting school next fall. She's been in daycare for the past 3 years so it hasn't been a concern until now. Dad and I have about 4 weeks of vacation between us so I figure we can use some of that for the time off but not sure about the other weeks. I know there are camps available but just curious as to which ones you like/don't like, what your kids like to do, etc. Thanks in advance.

Go to the Summer Camp Fair on the 26th. We are plannign on going, even though we live in Houston (we'll be spending a significant amount of time there bc my sister is having a baby). You'll get plenty of info on all kinds of different camps. Alot of them offer discounts if you sign up early for summer camps.
My son loved gymnastic camp one summer. They offered a different theme each week in the summer and for one set price we got to pick 6 weeks we wanted to go. I think I paid $350 for all 6 weeks, 3 days a week from 9-3. My son has also done ice skating camp, hockey camp, sports camp and theater camp. His favorite was sports camp (even in the extreme heat). We've always wanted to do camps at YMCA...those look awesome. AGain, they offer different themes each week (hiking, archery, sports, musical, cheer, karate etc etc) and keep the kids all day.
So how old will she be this summer?
Is there a side of town you live in or need her to be for drop of and pick up?
Usually the Public elementary schools have after school care on campus. If not, they at least have a list of [laces that offer this service and will pick up your child from school.
Example in Central Austin, Elssas gym.. has an after school program at different facilities.
Stepping Stone Schools, also offer after school care at some of their locations.
In the summer, it will depend on the age of your child. It also will depend if you want all day or half day..
Many of the larger churches offer summer programs, that include lots of scheduled field trips. to the public library, children's museum, kids movies, swimming.. Your child would take a lunch each day..
There are also Day camps around Austin. This is the time of year to begin signing up, because they fill up fast, but generally these camps are for older kids like 8 and older. You can find a list of them here.
This Parenting Magazine always hosts a fair to learn about the camps in and around Austin,.
