Lots of babies, when they get teeth, start to grind their teeth. It's "normal." My Pediatric dentist said this. It is a phase and will pass. It doesn't cause pain.
My daughter and son did this, mostly when they were sleeping.

take care,

My daughter did the SAME thing. My husband is a dentist and I work in the dental field and I still got freaked out. It is NORMAL. It bothers you more than her. She'll grow out of it. When she starts to really eat solids it'll get better. It is normal for children in general to grind their teeth though.

Not sure if this is "correct" or not, but I just read somewhere that this is totally normal since they are experimenting with something new in their mouths and that they will grow out of it as soon as they get bored with it (grinding), as long it's not their permanent teeth, I think it's OK, but I could be wrong :)

its natural for them to do that. she could do it because they are new or from them being sore. what i did with my daughter (who did the same thing) was when i caught her i would give her the gentle naturals teething drops. she will stop sooner or later just give her lots of toys to chew. good luck!!!

My son did this too. It's ok as long as the teeth are healthy. My son was breastfeed throughout the night and this is where the problem came in. Around 9 months he got two cavities behind his top teeth so I didn't see them. It was basically bottle mouth even though he never took a bottle. The breastmilk sitting on his teeth was rotting them. Anyways the grinding caused one of the teeth with a cavity to chip. I took him the the dentist and had to get it capped and the other cavity filled. I'm just letting you know so you can start brushing her teeth, because I thought he was too young at 6 months for that but he really needed it. You can get a finger brush or even rub her teeth with a wash cloth every night if she won't take the toothbrush but she's probably young enough to get in good habits with accepting the toothbrush. As long as her teeth are healthy a little grinding is ok and normal. You can also give her Highlands teething tablet or little teethers teething tablets whenever she shows this sign of teething. They are the same thing and they are homeopathic. They don't cause drowsiness or any other side effects but help ease the pain for them. You can get the Highlands tablets at most drug stores or even grocery stores in the health food isle. You can also get either brand at Babies R Us with the first aid and teething stuff.

Totally normal. She'll stop, even if she doesn't, it isn't a real problem yet. My daughter is 5 and grinds at night sometimes. I personally was a horrible grinder up until about age 30 - I had to wear a mouth guard most of my teens/adult life. At 6mos of age, I wouldn't worry a bit though, both of mine did it, the teeth are new, the sensation is new, etc.. it isn't hurting them.

I've heard and read that it is very natural for babies to grind their teeth as they are breaking through simply because it is a new feeling for them they dont have to be doing it out of pain. You can't get them to stop you just let them do it and eventually they will stop.
