What Color Background Do You Select for Your Kids School Pix?

I just do the traditional gray. The optional backgrounds cost another $5! To pull down a screen? Yikes! I can think of many better ways to spend that $5.

color back grounds were like $3 more, so you could get the gray for free basically... BUT my sons kindergarten pics were important to him so he did pick his favorite color green to be his background... now i hope his outfit didnt totally clash with the color pallet ;)

We went with green this year (my daughters choice) and it came out cute. I would think green would bring out the green eyes and blue would bring out blue eyes? My daughter has brown eyes so that had no bearing on our decision though.

I mostly used blue backgrounds. My daughter chooses a background that harmonizes with whatever they're going to wear. Consider the color wheel. Choose a color next to the one your child is wearing or opposite on the wheel. Red will make green standout, for example. Purple would look good with pink and vice versa.

We get the free standard one and very few pictures. I prefer to do a family session sometime throughout the year and get my pictures from there. WE do get the spring pictures though!

I did blue last year, green this year.

i picked a grey background. my daughter wanted to wear a brighter blue shirt so it was a toss up between an amber background and a grey and my hubby chose grey.

I let my daughter pick whatever she wants. They're her pictures. They really don't turn out that well anyway. Many casual pics I've taken of her are better than the school pictures. We just buy the least expensive package.

I did the indigo blue. I like the clouds in the sky too. I try not to keep it too busy.

I think I would pick a solid color or a very quiet background. Some time the background are so busy, the kids don't stand out as much. I would vary the colors or backgrounds each year. One thing that I would do is to put the grade level and year on the back on the photos when I get them back! As a mom who is trying to go back and organize years of photos, it would have been helpful to have the year noted on the back of the picture! Now I am trying to match (fall & spring) pictures to yearbooks and other family photos.

Honestly, we haven't done the school pic thing in about 6 years. We just take the kids once a year and get family pics done.

Grey. I always forget it is picture day, and for any other color, you kind of need to color coordinate. So, grey pretty much is a safe color.

The photographer which our school uses takes the pictures outside with a natural background if weather allows, if not, they do a standard blue/grey backdrop.

I wish we had a choice. I never buy the school pictures because they look so awful. My kids are in a private school connected to our church. They usually have an individual in our church who does photography to take the school pictures because it is less expensive than hiring in a company to do them. Also, they require the boys to wear white oxford shirts and ties and the girls to wear the white peter pan collared shirt and a green plaid jumper for picture day. My oldest son is very light skinned and the white oxford shirt with the light blue or black background always makes him look like a sickly ghost. Last year and this year they actually hired a company to take pictures, but that company required you to buy the pictures before they were taken. Why would I want to pay for a picture I had not seen? Especially since I have never seen one I liked. I prefer to take my kids to a portrait studio instead.

We don't get a choice.

We did get some options for mid-year pictures last year and I picked a radial blend of gray and navy.
