Try putting a little powdered alum on it. It is a little bitter but it takes away the pain for a while. It is in the spice section.
My 2 y/o has a little mouth sore inside under his bottom lip and he doesnt want to eat very much becuase of it. We all know how it feels to have a mouth sore. But how can I help him? I know we as adults can take otc meds but what about little ones? I feel so bad for him. I do give him the toddler pediasures and milk and juice to keep up with his daily diet. Poor little guy cries evertime he eats. :-(
Thanks for all y'alls help! I will take your advice for the yogurt since he likes yogurt! I have been keeping him from sugars. I really don't let him have that much of it anyway. Thank you all very much!

Yogurt! Sour Cream, and Cottage Cheese!
I was plagued with ulcers for years and years....until my pharmacist told me to eat yogurt. Now, if I feel a sore coming up I eat a yogurt three times a day for about three days and it never develops.
In fact, If I do happen to have a bad sore I use a Q-tip and dip it in a little of the liquid off the Cottage Cheese, or into the Sour Cream and rub it right into the sore and it numbs the sting so that I can eat.
you should try giving him some PRObiotics. These help build up good bacteria in your immune system - which 70% is in your digestive system- and this should help clear it up. Just like the yogurt and cottage cheese lady..these foods have lots of PRObiotics in them that help your body fight infections..which is what these lil ulcers are. I used to get them all the timke as a child and antibiotics woulod make them worse...unless it gets infected itself. Also, frozen stuff will numb it and the alum or cream of tartar w/ water definently. Poor lil guy. Hope hes better soon!!
Make a paste of Cream of tarter and water. Place some of it onto the sore every once in a while. It will help the healing process.
I have used salt water for my little ones. Rather than gargle or swish around, dip a q tip or even your finger in the salt water and put it on then sore. It will burn a bit and taste nasty, but it works.
Have you tried the baby teething gel? or perhaps chewing on some ice or frozen fruit? Good luck!
Sometimes those things need antibiotics.
Go to Wholefoods Market and in the vitaim section, look for Homoepathic medicine. Mouth sores remedy to look for is Mercury. You can also ask one of the staff members to help you find another remedy if this one does not work.
I am not a doctor, but it has help me. Homeopatic medicines are very safe. Take one tablet and place in water. This should help clear up the problem.
We've used Baby Orajel (for teething), in the little swabs that look like Q-tips, and put it on our daughter's canker sores. I can't tell whether or not it actually helps, but she says it does.
Have you taken a peek in his throat? Mouth sores could be thrush or foot and mouth. It could explain why any eating is causing him pain. Dabbing Milk of Magnesia will help coat it and reduce inflammation.
I agree with the moms that suggested no sugar and probiotics but that doesn't stop the pain right now and he HAS to eat. High grade tea tree oil (melaleuca alternafolia oil) will heal a mouth sore almost overnight. Saturate a q-tip and hold it on the sore for as long as he'll let you. The oil actually penetrates deep to the root of the sore and heals from the inside out. It will also comfort and if he swallows any it won't hurt him. He probably won't like the taste but if his sore feels better he may put up with it.
Long term is get his nutritional balance under control. Sores in the mouth are usually yeast or the herpes virus from chicken pox (yes you can pass that in utero). Neither one of these conditions show up if the immune system is strong. He's old enough for a chewable vitamin...I can recommend one if you like.

They can be soooo painful, poor little guy I would suggest a little Ora-Gel. Also, I would suggest taking him to the Pediatrician as sometimes our little one's can get those kind of sores because there is a yeast infection of sorts (usually caused by too much sugar).
Or just put salt right on it. Yes, it burns for just a bit, but it does heal it.
numb's it works also a small amount of ice, (pop cicle) will numb it and also help it heal.
The sores may be caused by a virus. My little one has had them a couple of times, and his doctor told me that I could give him a mixture of an antacid and children's benadryl. You mix equal parts antacid (Maalox, or something like that- I used a generic brand) and children's benadryl. Give your child 1 teaspoon of the mixture a couple of times a day. I gave this to my husband when he had a sore in his mouth, and he said it worked great!
