I'm trying to focus on joy...just in general. Also, it gives me an opportunity for an unveiled brag! Our son, who has learning disabilities, just came back from his second time at a specialized camp It was up and down. However, the Executive Director of the camp has offered him an opportunity to be a Counselor in Training next summer! We're so proud! So, please share what brought you joy this week!

What can I do next?

I spent the entire day in my pajamas yesterday, did no housework other than a couple of loads of laundry and cooking a quick jambalaya for dinner, and watched an entire season of a show on Netflix. I haven't had the ability to do that in what seems like forever.

Fun question and congratulations to your son. What a great vote of confidence!

Long before I had my son, I was a nanny for a lovely family. Their youngest daughter, I held the day she was born. This weekend she and I went out for pedicures to celebrate her graduation, AND, we are fortunate that she's taking a gap year, so she's tutoring our son (whom she held the day he was born, :) ) in math and science AND doing a couple hours of babysitting surrounding the tutoring time. She tutored freshmen with learning challenges at her own high school and is creating a program for our son.

I'm so blessed and amazed that this circle continues. Her mother once offered me a job based on our love and affinity for teaching because she wanted something great for her family and now I can do that for her wonderful daughter. Her girls are the reason I have hope for the coming generations.

That's really nice about your son. Isn't it great when they get recognized for being a great kid? :)

We had a wonderful low key weekend camping with friends. It ended a bit in disaster - trip to ER in wee morning - but my youngest was a super trooper of a kid. Normally somewhat anxious, kid just lay there and chat with nurse and resident. I nearly passed out (funny, I can handle blood, but not my kid's?) but she was super brave.

Knew she was. Now she knows it too :)

My son bought us all tickets for the Star Wars movie at a 3D Imax theater. We sat there, with our adult son in the middle, and just laughed and enjoyed every moment!

Oh yeah, and it was air conditioned!

We had a 40th birthday party with a formerly estranged family member coming out of an abusive marriage, and got reacquainted with her 11 year old daughter. It was 90+ degrees but I got some great suggestions from Mamapedia members on cold, no-cook, no-grill foods to help all of us enjoy the day. She really had a good time and there was a lot of laughing going on. And my son did the vacuuming and dusting beforehand, saving me the work.

I spent the weekend at my son's baseball tournament. His team didn't win. BUT - The kids are a really good group of kids. They love to play the game and they have fun no matter the outcome. The parents are supportive of all the kids and we all get along great. Our season is officially over now, but we are all getting together tomorrow evening just to have fun. It is a joy to be with this group of people.

Swimming with hubby in the crashing ocean waves, visiting with close friends, helping Mom, seeing my son from out of state, dining for the first time with new neighbors, learning a new perspective in a sermon, and now sitting in an air-conditioned living room!

Congratulations to your son!

Our son finished his summer internships, registered to vote and has begun his Behind the Wheel class which will get his drivers license.
I've got my kitchen cleaned out/organized - shiny counters with some candles on them in the evening looks so nice!

Congrats to your son!! CIT is a great opportunity to learn a lot of new things and interact with a lot of new people. Brag away mama.

For me? Lots of stuff ... listening to my 3 yr old granddaughter talk about going to banastics aka gymnastics.I'm going to be sad when she finally says it right. Getting a texted picture of my 9 yr old granddaughter building the biggest hershey kiss out of sand on their trip to the beach. Random I love you gram texts from her older and cooler brothers who will not say they love me because it might drop their cool factor but will text it a million times. Watching my hubby water my veggie garden. Taking the dog for a walk. I have a simple life so it makes it easy to find joy in a lot of little things.

Yesterday was a mixed day for me. We found out our one kitten is dying, and then I had a pure joy moment: the substitute music teacher my daughter had praised her in a manner that made me feel totally sure of the weird way I am educating my kids.

Jumping in waves with my kids was pure joy, good sex with hubby....an amazing glass of wine at my brother's house...seeing this rock chart at the museum that finally helped me to understand the different kind of rocks. Don't ask me to explain it, but I finally know where quartzite, marble and slate came from, and that was super cool to finally see!
