What Are Your Kids Requesting for Christmas Presents?

Plenty of you have asked what to buy your kids. . .but, what are your kids requesting for Christmas? (I not a big fan of the asking part, but Grandma introduced the concept to dd, and thus she has stated her case).

My K dd is asking for a Polar Express train. I now notice there is a "G-Gauge" train for younger kids, so I can consider it, but I hadn't been. (Feedback on its quality is appreciated. So is whether I should fulfill every desire (especially when I'd like to wait a year) as I won't be able to fulfill all of them as she becomes a teen with pricier requests.)

She also has asked for a cash register and to go to Chicago like we did last year over the holidays.

Maybe Santa can bring the train.

What can I do next?

Hi kindred!

When my kiddos were younger...they wrote letters to 'santa'...

'Santa' ALWAYS responded in kind...either an item was 'out of stock' in the north pole...or there was some reason that it was prudent for the kiddos to wait on/for a particular item...

'Santa' always had 'different' hand writing from mine...and in fact when kiddos were younger, I think they enjoyed 'santa's' epistle to them MORE than any gifts 'un' received...

Santa still 'writes' to my kiddos each and every christmas...

Some christmas' are smaller than others...

BUT the 'santa' letters are now a staple...AND greatly appreciated...

Best Luck!

Greg and Nick are 9 & 11 - they have requested

books and games (yes XBOX too).
They also still play with LEGOs and soldiers - GI Joes...

A few years ago they wanted Razor Scooters and new bikes.

I guess I'm lucky - my kids are pretty simple. Once in a while they have high ticket items (and yes XBOX games are considered high ticket items since they are $60 a pop).

My daughter wants an Easy Bake Oven (I already had it purchased when she asked for it so I guess I picked well). She's technically a little young for it but she is advanced and adult supervision is key. She also asked for skates (which I also already had).

My five year old's number one request is a skateboard (of course Santa is also bringing an upgraded helmet and pads!), and he also loves books, so he'll get some new ones, some superhero/action figure stuff he loves, a new marble track and this shark ship toy that goes on land and in water.

My 3 year old wants everything Scooby Doo! Santa is bringing a Scooby pirate play set and a haunted mansion. He has also asked for some Thomas stuff, so he's getting some of that and a little bike. Both kids always get books and new art supplies. We also now have a Wii and a Kinect, so Santa will be leaving a few family games for us to enjoy.

Santa brought the Lionel O Gauge (I think that's it) Polar Express train to "us" last year -really my oldest at the time was the one so taken with it -to go around our tree. It's a really nice train!

My almost 4 year old requested a fairy dress and books. She also asked for slippers. I also bought her a dollhouse.

My almost 2 year old has requested nothing. I bought him a Polar express train on clearance last year, and he is getting some race car stuff. And books. They both are getting lots of books.

Learning Resources makes a terrific cash register.

My kids all made a list for my hubby. My kids asked for little things even my 16 year old daughter. My 18 year old had nothing to put on the list. =) He said whatever we want to get him is fine. He's not a gift person. My kids had clothes, games, toys, accessories like nail polish etc. My 16 year old had a comforter for her bed that said (NOT PINK... please.) LOL My 11 year old daughter said Tenny shoes instead of Tennis shoes...LOL They had sizes and everything... too cute!

My 10 year old twins want a lava lamp and an 18th century frock coat and a fencing sabre - always fun for Santa to track down. Previous years they have requested a cannon, intergalactic space blaster and emeralds......guess they have good imaginations!! We always try to get at least one thing on their list...

My kids never know what to ask for...we don't let them watch much TV, just recorded shows or DVD movies...so they don't see a lot of the commercials and know what's NEW, HOT or a must have item.

I understand that they want to ask for SOMETHING cool, so I collect all the catalogs and ads that come out this time of year and let them leaf through them (my mom used to do that for me with the old Sears Catalog). They cut out pictures of what they like and make a list for Santa that way.

I also fill it in with ideas like "movie tickets" to go to the movies with Grandpa, sewing supplies to learn to sew with Grandma, or a sleepover with the other Grandma to get some one on one time. They LOVE those ideas and always request time with their grandparents, instead of more stuff.

I also plant ideas in their heads about maybe taking a new class since the weather is crummy, so we start talking about what they want to do...if it's gymnastics, then maybe Santa brings a new leotard (and I sign them up for classes in January), swimming, a new suit or towel (and a class), you get the idea.

Finally, I also suggest summertime things like roller skates, soccer balls, or other items that they wanted but we didn't have (yet).

And for your cash register - GO GET THE ONE FROM LAKESHORE LEARNING (or Learning Express). It's so cool! It has it's own credit card, scanner and microphone. It's so much better than the regular old one. It even adds up and totals whatever you ring up. It's so awesome!!!

As for a train, we love our GeoTracks train set. It ONLY comes out for Christmas so that keeps it "special". We have remotes for the engines to go, stop and "choo choo". They have tons of sets you can buy so you can always add on more pieces. We went with the regular set - no Thomas the Train or characters as we knew they'd grow out of those. Our kids spend hours building and rebuilding the set on the living room floor. GeoTracks are gender neutral and have engines, cars, tracks, bridges, trees, signs, etc. It's a fabulous set and has worked flawlessly for our family for years and years. The kids especially love using the remote controls!

Our daughter makes it really difficult for us....she won't ask for anything or even give a hint...ever!!! Ughhhh! She's 18 now and really doesn't WANT anything although she loves buying for others.

I guess I need to figure this out. Some of the best times have been activities (concert tickets, theme parks, NFL tickets) and others have been very cool like swimming with the dolphins or the Beluga whales.

My 3.5 yr old son is requesting anything he sees a commercial for, it seems:
- pillow pet
- Zurg from Toy Story (watching it for the up-teenth time right now)
- rockets (they fly up in the air from air pressure)
- robot toys

I will not buy him anything for Xmas. He will get plenty from my parents, from my in-laws, from grandparents and from other family. Eh I may decide to buy the movie Rio, as I like that one too.

Cash registers can be loads of fun - my neice had one and now my son uses it. He likes to talk on the pretend microphone that's attached to ask for a price check. We role play a lot and he may buy gas for his trike or buy a pretend ice cream from me too. He is a very imaginative kid and he therefore likes the cash register. (Sounds like my niece had the Lakeshore one MomOnTheGO mentioned).
