I have a friend that did WW too and it didnt work for her at all. She just started the South Beach diet and has already lost 8 pounds! Might try that one?!
I started weight watchers one month ago. The first week I lost 5 lbs. the last three weeks nothing. I started exercise the 2nd week, still no loss. I am sticking to my points. What am I doing wrong? B.

I just want to say - good luck. I am 3 weeks into WW, so I know how you feel. I've lost 8 pounds, but it seems to be less and less each week. That's ok. I plan to hang in there. I did retake the personal points quiz this week, and it reduced my points by 1. Bummer, but I am hoping that by reducing my points by 1 each day I'll keep seeing weight loss. I figure that is one less meal for a week.
Hang in there!
My personal trainer says do your walk daily in the morning before breakfast, after fasting all night. Drink lots of water. Do not eat after 6:00pm unless it is a salade or cereal.
Since you started working out the 2nd week, it could be muscle that is keeping the pounds from immediately coming off. Don't be discouraged. This happens with many people starting to work out because you usually build muscle first, which either adds a little weight or keeps you from immediately losing weight, but it is a good thing, so just keep up what you are doing and the hard work WILL pay off!
You may be gaining muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. Then you are losing fat weight, but can't see it on the scale. Measure yourself instead, with a measuring tape. Measure your waste, belly, thighs - you may see more loss in inches than pounds.
Hi B.,
Don't eat the same number of points a day, you'll plateau make sure that you vary it up a little.
If you are not eating the same number of points a day, stop the exercise for now. Your body has already gone into shock with the drop in calories so wait a few weeks to exercise.
If this does not work, I was once told to go and eat a cheeseburger...I know, not the usual WW policy but it work, it kick started my weight loss by shocking my body..thank god, i was 2 weeks away from my wedding and still had 10lbs to lose. Good luck
Hi B.!
The problem is your focus. When you are counting calories, points and so forth you have to focus on food, and how much, or how little you are chewing. You are probably also using WW foods and diet foods.
First, change your program!! Diets DO NOT WORK!! Check out WeighDown Workshop at www.weighdown.com. The focus is on God, not food. When you change your focus and attention to God, the weight will come off. The Lord has taken almost 70 lbs. off of me this way. IT WORKS!!
GOD LOVES YOU!

I would try eating a little over your points...when I was on weight watchers and I came to a stall I would eat a little over my points one week and suprisingly I would lose a few pounds....don't recommend all the time but sometimes your body needs that extra push.
You may be losing inches and not weight, exercise makes muscles which weigh, but are a good thing. If you lose slow, this means it will stay off, people that lose fast, sometimes it is (water), . don't get discouraged, it will happen.
How much variety do you have in your diet? Assuming you are doing everything right, try 2-3 new foods each week.
I have done weight watchers off and on. You need to make sure you are eating all your food groups and the correct amount. Also, be sure you drink all your milk group. I know that when I would not drink my milk, I did not lose as much weight as when I drank it. Also, stay active that is the best thing. Just continue to stick with it and I promise the pounds will start shedding again. Good Luck.

I am a lifetime member, losing 40lbs, and I would say from my experience, drinking the water really gets the weight off. It can be agaonizing slugging down a lot of water, but it really keeps you from retaining and gets the toxins out that may be causing you to keep weight on. And of course like others have said, muscle mass too. Keep it up, you wont regret it!
You could be replacing muscle with fat which weighs more.
Also, are you drinking all of your water and eating the recommended veggies??? That will make a big difference.
I did WW successfully for about 6 months last year until I had to cancel my membership bc of money issues and put the weight back on. While I was doing it, I would find times that weight would just melt off and then I couldn't get it off no matter what.
Just stay on track and don't get frustrated. Just remember, you didn't gain it all in 2 weeks. It won't all come off in that time either!
Best of Luck!
I too just returned to my exercise program and have really been trying to eat healthy. I actually have gained weight, and my doctor says it is muscle. As long as you are seeing that your clothes fit better, you are making progress. The muscle weighs a lot more than the fat. So you may gain weight on the scale, but loose inches. Good luck... :)
You aren't doing anything wrong. It is easy to lose weight the first week... then when you start excercising your beginning to convert fat to muscle. I have used WW three times in my life. You really need to look for one pound a week loss. If you begin to excercise and move more it will throw things off for a few weeks... keep going, don't stop now. In a few weeks you will step on the scale and your shape will change and your clothes will fit differently and you will be so happy.
In the first week, you lost water weight. If you are sticking to your points, the main thing you need to do is definitely drink a lot of water and exercise. I think you will find that the weightt does come off. But, after a few weeks, you will probably hit a plateau. I did ww for a year and hit a plateau several months into it and stayed at that plateau for months. It was very hard to break through that plateau. But, stick to the plan and you will see results!!
Hi B.,
I am thinking if you started excercising the 2nd week that could be the problem. When you start working out you are trading muscle for fat and muscle weighs more. That is why alot of times if the scales are saying nothing, the way your clothes are fitting and how you look naked should be what you need to look at.
I may be wrong, but I know that happens and could be a possibility.
You stated that you started exercising the 2nd week. When you exercise you start to build more muscle (not bulking) and begin to tone your body. Muscle weighs more than fat and that's why you feel you are not losing weight. I always tell people to go by how your clothes are fitting. With exercise and toning your body, your clothes will fit better. Go by how you feel as well. You'll notice more energy and being happier too. Keep going and don't worry about the scale. Focus on the positives you are doing for yourself. Way to go!
When I started working out and doing the program...in the first 7 weeks...I only lost ONE pound...but I had measured myself along with watching my weight...I lost 1-2 inches in my waist, hip, thighs...etc!!! Don't get discouraged...the weight will start coming off as well!
make sure you are eating enough. If you dont use all your points you wont loose the weight. I know it sounds funny, but its true. Good luck. also, drink lots and lots of water.
Are you going to the WW meetings or do you belong to one of the "support" groups that they have where you can ask questions? If so, I would ijnquire of those people. In general you tend to lose weight rapidly right off the bat no matter the type of diet you start because of water weight. I have read this and also have experienced it first hand. Plus, you will hit a plateau. Make sure that you are following the diet to a tee. I would say ask those that are on this program, they know better than any and also be patient, some times it takes longer to lose weight then we would like it to. If you are able, try to walk or any kind of exercise at least 30 minutes a day as well. Good Luck!
Hello B. P,
I am a weight watchers person myself after my mom told me my belly was sitting in my lap that was enough for me. I join weight watchers with my friend in office November 15, 2007 and we both have lost 16 to 14lb. It was hard at first but it is definitely worth sticking to and we are on the flex program.
Just a few suggestions:
1. Track everything you put in your mouth even if it is just a taste.
2. Run or walk for 30min at a moderate level and working up to a high level 4 times out of the week.
3. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily (Crystal light on the goes).
4. Take daily vitamins and omega 3.
5. Plan your meals it helps and eat green vegetable daily.
I hope this will help. Weight Watchers has change me to be a better eater and to look a the nutrian lables and choose what is the best thing for my one and only body.
M., saying stick with it you will like the end result. :)
There will be weeks when you think you're not losing, but you are. You're losing fat and gaining muscle, as another poster said. I was on WW before my kids, and I want to go back on it. It was wonderful!
The food recipes are delicious. The frozen treats are delicious. :) Their support is amazing. And I loved that I could eat what I wanted (in moderation).
Hang in there and don't get down about the weight numbers. Look at your body and how it's taking shape. Feel the difference in you. Those are the results worth tallying. :)
In the the book it says that if you hit a standstill to try switching plans for a week. So try switching to the Core plan for a week and see if that gets things moving again.
Here are some other tips to try.
1) For water retention drink a cup of warm water (not hot) with 1/2 a fresh lemon squeezed into it.
2) Look at your food journal. Are you consuming alot of points close to bedtime? Try not to eat anything less than 2 hours before bedtime or before you slow down for the evening.
If all else fails, talk to your counselor, that is what they are there for. They have been thru this and have to experience to share with us.
My DH and I started last week. You are doing great for loosing 5 lbs the first week. I have only lost 3... of course right now I have dreaded monthly weight gain so that is really going to mess with my first weigh-in!
Eat your extra 35 points so that your body doesn't go into "starvation" mode. This is very important when excercising. That should help.
Also, I have to laugh when people say muscle weighs more than fat. Huh? A pound is a pound is a pound. Think about it, a pound of feathers weighs the same as a one pound paperweight. Muscle will make you appear leaner, so a pound of muscle on your body is leaner than a pound of fat. Keep up the good work of exersing and watching your points (being sure to eat the extra points) and you're pounds will soon start dropping off.
Be patient. Weight loss can go pretty slow when it's healthy. LOL, too bad about that. When I was counting points and frustrated that my weight was not going down fast enough, I realized that I do a lot of snacking I was not considering...i.e. fixing lunch for my little girl, I eat one or two of her pieces of cheese, cooking I "sample", or steal chips off my husband's plate. No need to count points on "just one chip"...unless you do it several times a day like me. LOL. Just an idea. Also, you can increase your metabolism by 25% by drinking those famous 8 glasses of water per day. Believe the hype. It took me six months, but I lost 30 lbs. Hang in there.
I am also a lifetime member. Have you thought about trying the core plan? It might be worth a try for a week. You have received a lot of good advice here. Definitely make sure you eat all of your points each day. Are you also getting in all your fruits, veggies, water and milk? The good health guidelines are very important!
What type of exercising are you doing? Are you calculating your activity points and eating those as well? Once you start exercising you need to make sure that you give your body enough fuel too.
Talk to your leader as well. They always have great tips. Or if you feel comfortable bring it up in the meeting, the other members will have lots of tips as well.
Good luck and don't give up. Weight Watchers is a fantastic program!
I have been a lifetime members of WW for years and you're doing nothing wrong. Your body is just taking it's time. Keep following the program. Are you going to regular meetings. Talk with your speaker and ask for advise. Please e-mail me and I will send you my file of a variety of recipes.
Stick with it, it really works.

B.,
I shed over 50 pounds on WW and have kept it off for 4 years. It does not sound like you are doing anything wrong. If you are working out at the or a place like that I would recommend a personal trainer for a couple of sessions. They can talk to you about muscle weight and also help you figure out what you want to accomplish. You might also start looking at how your clothes fit in addition to what the scale says. Get rid of clothes as soon as they become too big and get clothes that fit. You are worth it!
I actually will be going back as of this Saturday and would like to lose about 50 baby pounds...
Are you drinking all of your water and or liquid? I know water can be hard but rememberyou can even do broth and or other things to get it in.
I will try to encourage you as I get started as well if you would like.

I just weighed in today for my 12th week. I am down 20 lbs. I also quit losing, until someone told me that you have to eat the total amount of points allowed. For instance, if you are allowed 25 points, eat all 25. Eating less than allowed will make your body think it needs to preserve all its resources, including fat. Also, if you are exercizing, allow yourself the extra points you gain from it.
Hang in there, it really does work!
B.,
I will be waiting for a response on your question. I too have dieted and exercised and am really doing more than I have ever done before and "no results" in the weight loss. I have been on thyroid medicine for about 4 years now and still no help there. I am 50 and if one more doctor tells me it's just my age, I will scream. Sometimes I wonder why even exercise when nothing is happening. Health, I guess. Good luck and if I ever find out the cure, I will get back to you.
i just wanted to see if you could give me some info on how to start weight watchers. i have been thinking about for awhile. can you go online and join? do you have to eat the prepared foods they sell? i would appreciate some tips. thanks
B.:
Have you ever tried a cleanse? It could be an issue of toxicity. If you have toxins in your body (as we all do), your body's natural defense is to surround those toxins with fat and water to protect itself. Getting rid of the toxins safely and naturally will tell your body to let go of the fat, as well. Try this website ( http://isagenix.com/us/en/cleanse.dhtml) for information on a natural cleanse system that really does work! My father distributes this product and uses it himself. My husband, father-in-law, grandmother, co-workers, and friends have tried this cleansed and have all had great results (min of 7lbs lost) that LAST! (b/c once the toxins are gone, there's no reason to gain the fat back)
If you'd like to email my dad at ____@____.com with Isagenix Cleanse Question as the subject line, he would be more than happy to tell you his own experience and help youpick a program if you do choose to use the products.
Hope this helps!

I've been doing weight watchers since January 07. As of last Monday I've lost 99 lbs. (I'm 51)Don't give up. It works. Changing your diet and activity level changes your body and sometimes you need a couple of weeks for everything to catch up.
Talk to your leader, she has lots of experience and lots of information.
If the flex plan isn't working like you think it should or your stuck switch to the core plan.
The biggest help for me is tracking. I write down everything, and I keep my trackers. If I'm going to have a hectic week I'll go back to a week when I had a good weight loss and eat the same things.
It won't happen overnight, but it will happen if you stick with it.

Hi B.,
I'm about to weigh in tomorrow for what I think will be my fourth week at WW. I too lost five pounds the first week and have been right at 1 - 1.2 the other weeks. I wish it were closer to two pounds per week but I guess I need to take what I can get, right? LOL
Anyway, I encourage you to not give up because WW does work! I lost 67 lbs with WW about seven years ago and unfortunately put it back on but it wasn't that WW failed me, I went right back to my bad eating habits :-( I'm hoping that now that I'm almost 36 and feeling the negative physical aspects of getting older that I'll be more inclined to make this stick.
I would encourage you to journal very carefully and try to walk 30-45 minutes a day. You don't have to walk so hard that you are completely breathless, just walk faster than you normally do when say, you're at the mall or grocery shopping. Excercise boosts your metabolism which may be part of the problem for you since you said you are a senior. The older we get, the more that slows down.
If you don't see some change in your next weigh in, stay after the meeting for a few minutes and discuss it with the leader. One thing I discovered when I lost in the past is that if I excercise a lot and don't use those extra 35, I lose less weight, so I allow myself one fun meal a week that I know wipes those extras out. May not work for everyone but that's what I discovered about my own losing patterns.
Again, don't give up!! There's lots of us out there on this same tough journey :-)
Hi B.-
Don't be discouraged. I have been doing Weight Watvhers for years now. I am a lifetime member who convinced myself I didn't need to go to the meetings and that I new the program in and out and didn't need points. I am back at WW trying to lose my extra 20 pounds I put on doing it "by myself". In any case, if you are staying in your points and really staying in your points and exercising it may be that your body needs to adjust to the loss. I believe the body at times can think something is wrong and tries to maintain what it has known. Once your body realizes it is not in danger, is not sick or being starved it will start to readjust and the weight will start coming off again. 5 pounds in one week is a lot and perhaps it is just as I described...readjusting. Make sure you are paying attention to what some of the Leaders refer to as BLTs, those bites, licks and tastes, they unfortunately add up. If you are keeping a food journal a WW leader will be more than happy to look at what you are eating and give more specific advice. Just don't give up. It took you years to gain the weight you are losing, it will take some time to come back off. You are not alone.
