Ok Mama's I need some help on loosing weight. I'm about 5'8 250-260lbs and I HATE it. I have two kids, so that doesn't help much. I would like to get down to 175lbs if at all possible. I need to know how all you other mama's out there did it. My 2 yr old won't take naps, and my husband is usually tired after a long day, so as you can tell help in that department is a no go. I am desperate. I have gone on a no sweets diet and I'm trying to work out a scheduale to work out. I don't have the money for Weight Watchers or anything like that. I can not take diet pill because I am still nursing my 4month old. I know part of my weight problem is from the Depo shot. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks:)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice. I greatly apprciated it. I will definetly call my doctor and see what she has to say about Aloe Vera. I have limited my self to 1-2 sweets a week and I have learned portion control. My MIL told me to chew slower and if need be. to count to 25 when I chew. I have also added more water to my diet. My weight and my milk supply were both suffering because of lack of it. I don't have a scale, but it does feel as if I've lost some weight. Again thanks to all you Mama's that replied.

I used to take the shot for b/c, & I never gained any weight off of it. Try getting on a high protein diet, tuna, eggs, meats etc., and try walking (if you have a local track at a school - use that) I have a tread-mill + a track at an elem. school I use. I lost about 40-50 lbs. in 3-4 mos. time., do sugar free stuff also. good luck !

Like most mommas have said, watch the amount of calories and drink that water. Maybe you can get 2 year old to exercise with you in the mornings (start good habits early) and that can help with nap time. Ask DH to give you 30 minutes so he can bond with kids and you can go on a power walk. Not only does the walk help you physically but helps to clear the head too. If this is not feesible, get that stroller out and take the kiddos with you or hubby might watch 1 at a time and you take one with you.

Good luck.

Hi M.,
I've battled my weight since puberty!! I got up to 260 lbs a couple of years ago, had high bp, and couldn't walk from here to there without getting tired and winded. I finally had gastric bypass surgery in March 06 and lost 60-70 within 4 months!! Then, I went through a divorce and a death in my immediate family and just hit a plateau I couldn't get past even though I kept the original 60-70 lbs off. I finally decided enough of this! I knew that if I was going to get any more weight off it would have to be the old-fashioned way. I joined Nutrisytem and started the diet just last Wednesday. As of this morning, I have already lost 5 pounds! I have 25-30 to go but seeing it come off this fast is a real incentive to stick with it. Having said all of that, if you can't afford a pricey program then try to avoid the 'whites' that meaning anything made with white flour or sugar, etc. Increase your lean protein intake. Also, try to get some excercise too. Have your husband watch the kids when he gets home and go for a walk. If you can go for a 30 minute walk everyday that will help a lot too. You defintely need AND deserve to have some time to yourself each day. Good luck to you...I know it's tough but hang in there!!

I did WW once I stopped nursing our first kiddo. I gained about 60 lbs. while preg with my son, I lost a little bit after he was born. The last 50 lbs. stuck like glue, I could NOT get rid of it! So in Aug of 2006 I went to WW for support, and it worked so well I lost 50 lbs. and I became a leader! If you ever have ques, email me- I am preg now, so I stopped. I didn't even get to be a leader very long, but becoming lifetime was the best thing for me. I tell people all the time, it probably cost around $240, but I lost the weight in half a year. and I would've paid double just to feel good about my body again! If think about all the money that you spend on going out to eat, it usually totals at least $40 a month. And that's what a monthly pass costs. Besides, having other healthy, like minded indiv. around me to support me helped more than anything else. I didn't feel so alone.

You can incorporate the same lifestyle changes, even without going to WW. I have also heard the Sparkdiet website is awesome and very supportive. You can look up lots of lowfat recipes on myrecipes.com. Even a brisk 30 minute walk, or exercise video is better than not doing any activities. Go with a friend, it will make all the difference. For me, working out to my fave music helped. A LOT! Being active will help you lose even more weight than just eating fresh fruits, veggies, & lean protein, would alone. Avoid most refined, processed foods. And if you can't measure out a portion of them. I have a friend who did not want to give up things that were cheap and easy to fix, ie Hamburger helper.. she portioned out a cup serving, had it with salad, and veggies and called it her dinner. She still lost weight. I personally stuck with cooking almost all of my family's food, and lots of salads. We snack on lots of raw fruits and veggies during the day. Since we have a toddler, he just thinks it's normal to eat fiber all day long since this is all he knows. We also eat a lot of whole grain breads, and Barilla plus pasta is great, it tastes like white pasta!!!

Hope this helps.
Good luck,
T

M.,

Congratulations on taking charge of your life. Since you have two little ones, you will want to make changes so that you will be around to enjoy them-especially boys. I have two boys and two girls and a 9 year old grandson, so I know what it's like. Diets don't usually work because they become very restrictive. Consult with your doctor since your nursing and see if there is a cleanse that you can use that won't harm your milk. Aloe Vera is very good and there are others out there. Try eating 5-6 smaller meals a day. I know that sounds like a lot of food but if you eat the right things, you will lose. You have small children, so it is ideal to incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your diet. If they see you eating properly, you are less likely to have picky eaters. try going for a walk with your little ones. Put them in a stroller, and walk. It will clear your head and allow your little ones some fresh air. I used to put videos in and use my little ones-especially your two year old for resistance. They are great for leg exercises and they get a big kick out of exercising with mommy! Even if your two year old won't take naps, allow him to have some quiet time or resting. Cut out sweets, "white" stuff-white rice, white flour, bread, pasta, potatoes (sweet potatoes are best and you can even put them in the oven and have baked sweet potatoe chips). My kids loved them when they were little. Cut out fruit juices-use fresh fruit, more vegetables, whole grains-brown rice, long grain rice, beans and legumes. That can be a start. If you need help with recipes let me know and I will be happy to help out. I had to learn to cook (ugh!!!) and now I enjoy it because of health issues with my husband (high bp/cholesterol and a full blown diabetic), I was overweight also and pre-diabetic. I control mine through diet and exercise. It is a must for me since I don't want to take medications for my diabetes.

feel free to drop me a line and I'll be happy to send you some recipes. Also one more note, portion control is very important.

Blessings
M.

Go dairy free and soy free. I had to because my son (whom I nurse) is allergic. I was prepregancy weight at 4-5 mo (I went on the diet when he was 2 mo) and was 20 lbs less then prepregnancy at about 6 mo. It's a hard diet to follow, I won't lie to you. Especially the first mo (when I was pregnant I used to go through 2 gallons of milk a week), but afterwards, it get loads easier. You have to be really diligent about looking at the food labels though. We eat a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and pretty much stay away from prepackaged foods (no hamburger helper, which is loaded with junk anyway). We don't use sugar substitutes and no sodas! We feel loads better, and save money since we're not buying a bunch of junk (frozen pasteries, ice cream, quickie snackes that involve chocolate or loads of sodium). I do cook alot from scratch (Thanksgiving was fun), but it's worth it. Hope this helps!

I would highly recommend finding $30 a month in your family budget for a gym membership (LA Fitness). It's completely worth every penney! And you'll delight in the time devoted to love and take care of your body ...while your sons are playing in their kids club area. I'm a SAHM too, so I think you'll also enjoy having some time away from the kids even if it's just for one hour. I enjoy going in the mornings. You can take both kids...the childcare workers watch them and call you if there are any problems. But from my experience....my son adores going to the gym! He loves playing there while i have "ME TIME". Exercise is a key component to weight loss and it'll keep you motivated to continue on the road because the weight will come off and you'll also tone up. And a gym is the best because once you get tired of doing the treadmill all the time...you can move onto the elliptical or the bike....or a spin class...or a step class...or a pilates class (classes are included in membership). or weights....or swimming laps...or a water aerobics class. You can have your pick of exercise day to day.
Eating a healthy, low cal, low fat diet is important...but so is exercise. Good luck! Us Moms need to take care of ourselves so we can be the best mommies we can be....kudos to you for already starting and getting serious about your new commitment!

Honestly, if you can afford it Jenny Craig is great. But it is expensive.
I have been researching it and I need to lose a good 60+ lbs and I am going to join Weight Watchers. If you live near Lake Worth or Saginaw (I live between in LakePointe off Bailey Boswell), and would like to go, I'm happy to have a WW buddy.
I think WW is great because they truly teach nutrition and portion control.
It's all about portion control and not DENYING yourself so you don't binge. AND exercise, of course.

GOOD LUCK!

This is going to sound so easy my personal trainer told me to do this. Due to the fact that I am a 5' 7" 287lbs. She told me to count calories shoot for any where from 1200 to 1800 calories it all depends on what you eat now. And drink water thats pretty much what i have been drinking and if you can work on cardio for at least 30 min. a day you can drop weight from 1 to 2 lbs a week but of course some weeks could be more and some weeks less. If you have any questions just email and i can ask my personal trainer.

I did WW many years ago, and while I was only on the program for a short period of time, it taught me many good basics that I now incorporate into my lifestyle. I read food labels a lot more closely and know how to manage my portions. As a result, my weight has fluctuated very little.

I would suggest keeping a food journal of absolutely everything you take in on a daily basis. Once you have a few days under your belt, you can look at where you can make improvements in your diet. For example, if you drink lots of sodas, then try cutting back on those or eliminating them all together.

Look for foods that are high in fiber and low in fat. Pay attention to serving sizes on labels and try measuring out your portions so you can get an idea of what a serving size looks like for those occasions when you can't measure everything. And of course, drinking water when you need fluid and eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies is extremely important.

Try to to make more quick and healthy meals at home. Cooking Light Magazine has some excellent recipes that are healthy and not too diety tasting.

Good luck!
