Hello All,

I am in need of wedding gift ideas for my sister. She is 45 years old and is getting married for the 3rd time but this time for real. Her 2 previous marriages, she was in her late teens/early 20s and both were short lived. She has been dating since but all men who weren't worth it if you ask me. She has finally found someone who loves and respects her and treats her the way she deserves to be treated. She has 2 adult children, a wonderful DIL and an adorable grandson. I am very happy for her!!! She also has a successful career and owns her own condo so it's not like she needs house stuff or anything really. My future BIL as never been married and has no children. They already live together and the wedding itself is going to be very low key...civil ceremony followed by dinner at a restaurant. I want to get them something special from me and my family (hubby and 2 boys).

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I am not crafty so I need something I can buy or pay someone to make for me. :)

Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

Maybe you can pay for a family portrait session. They can have a nice family photo that includes her kids and grand kid. If you can afford it, you could get one of each kid -and the kid's wife and son- and one of just the grandson, so they can have nice family portrait display.

My grandmother made us a quilt and had all my family write a message of good will on it, it is the only wedding gift we still have. I will always treasure it.

Gift cards to their favorite restaurant, especially if it's a restaurant he proposed in. Get them one for every anniversary through their 5th anniversary.

What about a weekend in a bed and breakfast? Or some other type of travel.

New bedding -- it's nice to start off a marriage with new bedding.

New holiday decorations, if possible include several holidays.

Anything that helps these two people start their own traditions would be good - everything else they have comes from their single lives or perhaps her former married life. Don't go for "practical" so much as "meaningful"

- Photo album, especially with wedding pictures if their low key wedding does not include a photographer
- regular or digital picture frame (the kind that rotates the pictures in a slide show),
- Christmas ornaments with their names on them (you could get one every year, not always with their names of course, and help them build a Christmas tree that is THEIRS
- a weekend getaway at a romantic bed & breakfast, historic inn, couples spa, or anything that helps them create memories
- wine bottle engraved with their names and wedding date - we saw these at specialty shops in the Napa Valley but they ship anywhere. You choose among available vineyards, choose the type of wine, and then they engrave the bottle with the wording of your choice. They can open the bottle on their first anniversary.
- something fun and crazy if they are that type - helicopter ride over their city, tandem bike rental near a bike trail, scuba training, hot air balloon ride
- if they are "cultural" types, get something they can enjoy over and over such as a museum membership, theater club membership (discount tickets to a variety of shows), or even a gift card to a concert hall or theater so they can choose what they like, gift certificate to an art gallery so they can choose something special for their home that isn't purely practical.

Go into a Crate n Barrell or other nice home goods store and just look around. Even for someone who has everything, it is really nice to get something new. I'd love new cloth napkins and placemats...there are so many cute modern ones now. Mine are so old. I'm sure you'll get ideas looking around.

I love and collect Waterford crystal.

How about a nice vase or bowl?

One thing we always get for a bride and groom is a beautiful blanket special fur, or woven. I am not sure where you can get something like that near you, but we have always been appreciated for it. Congratulations to her, I wish her the best of happiness.

How about a beautiful crystal bowl or vase or a special Christmas decoration that whenever she puts it out each year she will think of you. Or you could get her something engraved. Things Remembered has some beautiful things to engrave. Maybe a silver frame for a wedding picture.

I've seen some things on Etsy that can be personalized that looked nice. I'd check it out!

5 bottles of assorted spirits in a wicker basket.

I would love to get some Baileys, merlot, green apple vodka, coconut rum, and a bottle of Shiraz.

That should last them a good while and create some very romantic evenings courtesy of you.

What are their common interests, hobbies? My brother got us engraved beer steins, a friend got us a circular saw blade. Odd but perfect.

Good for her! Sounds like a lovely event to honor a lovely relationship.

I second the" get a nice new something from Williams Sonoma or Crate and Barrel" idea. Every year I buy a new item for my kitchen to make holiday preparation easier. She must be in need of something.

Or consider very nice picture frame.

If the wedding is this month or next month, you could get a special Christmas ornament. I'm not a trinket person, except when it comes to the tree.

If they have a balcony, consider something for dining outside.

A picnic basket with a bottle of wine and a corkscrew and wine glasses. Toss in a picnic blanket.

Two place settings of beautiful china for dinners for two and a highly rated cookbook you know she doesn't have.

A crystal vase and two dozen long stemmed roses in it.

A pot by Le Cruset (?) --enamel covered cookware. It works like a dream.

Enjoy the ceremony.
