Weaning to a Sippy Cup?

My 9 month old is holding out on drinking with the nanny while I am at work, but is eating solids from her without a problem. She does not fight the bottle, she just shows no interest in it. She has tried with a sippy too with the same results. I have been wanting to give her one or two pumped bottles or sippy cups each day at this point. She has been given bottles (by the nanny) since 4 months or so, but is inconsistent on taking them. I am hoping that by giving it to her daily, from me too, she will be more consistent. Should I try doing this with a sippy cup since it is going to take a couple of months anyway? Or would bottles be better? My son never had an issue with the bottle so this one is new to me. She is currently drinking small amounts of water from the sippy cup every day. Thanks moms, your advice helps so much!

Instead of a sippy cup, start teaching her to drink from a regular cup. She is definitely old enough, and that will spare you the trouble of weaning from the sippy in a couple of years. Yes, it is messier to start with, but anything other than a bottle should be given at the table (or high chair) anyway. You can start with the milk she is used to (I assume you are pumping?) or white grape juice or even water. I started teaching my kids to drink from a cup around 6 months old, and they were pro's at it within a month or so. (You/the nanny will have to help her hold it for a while still)

My son was breastfed and never understood the concept of tipping the cup to drink when he was little, I guess because you don't tip momma :)
He went from me to a straw cup to a regular cup, no bottles or sippies. Just try a couple different types of cups and I'm sure she'll take to one of them.

try the sippy cup, a cup w/a straw & a regular cup.
My daughter 1yrs old who is exclusively BF will not drink cow's milk from a sippy cup. She will drink milk w/a straw or a regular cup.

I agree with Julia,, as much as I like sippy cups to prevent spilling later when they are getting their own drink and maybe even feeding themselves at the table, but at 9 months, just put a tablespoon of your milk in a regular cup and help put his hands around it and tip it up to let him get a taste. He may sputter and spit a bit but then start trying to grab it and stuff it in his mouth to get more. It takes a few times, and he wont be a master at it for a while, but it really is a great age to start with regular cups.

I started my son with a straw cup at about 7 months. They are better for the mouth. At least, that's what my pediatrician told me. He liked that he didn't have to hold it up do high to drink from it. Also, it really helped when his molars started coming in. He could get the silicone straw back there to chew on.
