Weaning from Bottle to Sippy Cup.

There is a great new product on ebay called KiddieCooler made of neoprene that goes over the sippy cup type "sippy cups" its the first product on the list. or type "KiddieCooler". You can get them on www.KiddieCooler.com as well for retail price.

My suggestion is to start w/ a sippy that has handles so it's easy for the baby to grab. As far a brand I had a few different types and my son would drink out of all types. May I also suggest putting water in it b/c she will throw it on the floor, tip it over and shake it. I know that's what I did b/c breastmilk it to valuable and formula is to expensive to be spilled. One last thing when you first give it to her take the valve OUT so she gets the idea that something comes out of the top. Then of course when she gets better and the concept of the sippy put the valve back in. Good Luck

I personally like the Playtex cups. They dont leak as much and you can get them anywhere almost 24 hours! (this comes in handy)
Mostly, I followed advice of a friends. I put water in one or two of them and left them around the house. She eventually would pick it up and try it. It takes them some time to learn how to drink that way, but especially when they see other kids using them, they get curious.
It worked for us, just be patient.
Oh - and I would suggest, once you buy a certain brand and she seems to like it (start with maybe 2 of them at first) stick with that brand so you always have the same valves. They get lost quickly and this way you always have a back up.

The Nuby sippy cups are a great transition from bottle to sippy cup, they have the shape of a sippy cup top and the feel of the soft silicone tip. My son did not want to hold his bottle either, once I knew he was physically capable, I just left it in front of him and let him cry until he picked it up and drank, then we made a big deal about it to reqard him.

wow 8 months is early to wean her from a bottle,

I thought the general rule was 12 months.

why not start with the silicone straw like sippy cup, its more like a bottle, so it will be and easier transition,

as she drinks more you can change to a silicone regular sippy cup, and then a regular CUP.

If your girl is walking, or trying to, she's prob already very adventurous and her motor coordination is prob great. Hop right into sippy cups -she'll figure it out fast. Two things I think are important; don't bother with the cute little "starter cups" because your daugther will use them for maybe a few weeks-then you have them filling your cabinets. Go right for the regular sized- just don't fill them too full. They love water in them, formula works too-don't do the juice thing as this is the main way kids get their first cavities. The last thing I'd advise is don't get the dang sippy cups with the annoying septums! they are a pain to clean, keep track of, each cup brand has a different kind that doesn't fit, they can fall off and then leak like crazy..they are a pain. There is a brand that is not too common but works REALLY well and the cups are small enough for any hands. The opening just has a flap of silicon, like a baby bottle, and it works like a one way door that the kids just simply have to suck a little harder. Wish i could remember the name but the few that I have, my husband uses them with the kids because they are so easy-and he loses them! they are tall and narrow, and the top had a smaller easy sipping spout with a transparent little flap over it.

The Nuby cups as previously suggested are great. Walmart does carry them, and I believe Babies-R-Us has them as well.

You might also want to consider the Avent trainer, especially if you're already using Avent bottles. All the Avent products are interchangeable (EXCEPT for the new bottles with the disposable liners). The regular bottles and cups have interchangeable pieces and the trainer cup has removable handles that you can put on a bottle. We've used the Avent for both of our boys and have been quite happy with them. The Nuby cups have worked very well for us, too.

Both of my boys (2 1/2 and 6 1/2 months) started their transition at around 6 months, and have done just fine using these two products.

Nuby - I think that's the spelling - makes an awesome cup. They have one where the nipple is soft. Then they make a great cup with a straw. Once my son figured out how to use the straw on MY water bottle, he started loving his straw cups.

Try a sippy bottle. It worked for my son. they can be independent yet still have the bottle until they switch to a regular sipy cup.

I can tell you what worked best for us (it also worked for a good friend too) but it seems to be different for every child. We used NUK cups. They had a rubber spout that was like half nipple half sippy spout. My youngest used these at 7-8 mo. we got them at wal-mart which seemed to be the only place we could find them. They have handles on either side (attached to the lid) and are a bit smaller than most.They came in red, blue or green. These worked so well for us. We also used the bigger gerber cups after. They had a rubber spout also, but it was a bit firmer and the cup was much bigger. Also, the handles on that one were adjustable.She stopped using a bottle completely (on her own) once we started the NUK cups. We never had any trouble with any cups after that! Neither one of my girls would use the nuby cups, the spout was too fat and they didn't like it. Also, I don't know of any child that doesn't figure out how to spill them all over. Since they have no valve, all you have to do is turn it upsidedown and shake or bang against something. We also love the playtex cups. We use all of them the valve fits in all of them and we have never had a problem with them. They are possibly too hard for a young baby though. The spout is hard plastic. They do have a few with a softer spout if you look. Hope this helps.

I bought 1 of everything I liked the look of. There is no way to predict what she will like. My son liked the narrow hard tips. My duaghter liked the soft narrow tips. The good news is you can reintroduce the ones she turned down after she gets the hang of it and then she won't be so picky about anything in her life. You will be teaching her to try new things. I did that with both of my kids and they will both try anything, food, activities everything. Good luck!

You can buy Nuby cups at Walmart with the soft nipples that are somewhat like bottles to start, then after that it's really personal preference.

Hi H., I use Playtex sippy cups and if the part inside the cover is in correctly it does not leak. I.
