Ways to Ease "Drying Up"

I have been weaning my baby from breastfeeding to formula feeding, and am down to only 1 feeding a day from myself. Looking to hear what has been done to stop the milk production and about how long it took. I've heard about cabbage leaves and tight sports bra's but do they really work?

What can I do next?

D.,

I too ended down to 1 feeding after dropping all others over a 2 month period. I had zero problems! I think that if you can keep at 1 feeding for a while your body will just shut down the factory on its own,and your daughter will let you know!I kept the morning feeding as my last, but my son was having a full brakfast anyway and he just didn't seem interested in the breast,so the day I was in a hurry and forgot to offer the breast was the beginning of the rest of my life...:) Good luck

if you are down to only 1 feeding a day, you should be able to stop without doing anything extra. I did.

D., you are at a great place. One time a day can be reduced to once every other day or even once every two days before you stop altogether. Green cabbage has an amino acid in it called tyrosine. Tyrosine does help reduce edema in tissue. It helps to use flatter leaves, or use a rolling pin to smash down large veins--and wear like Eve in the Garden. It is best when leaves are refrigerated. Do not freeze them, but applying them with ice packs really feels good. You are at a good stage where you are really close to weaning down. A supportive sport bra is good, but too tight is NOT. Good luck!

Tight sports bra really does work. Also cut back on your intake of liquids and NO BEER during dryout process.

When I stopped breast feeding I had to go cold turkey in the middle of the 4th month so I could go on medication and at the time my little guy was eating a lot. It was very difficult but I did wear the tighter fitting sports bras and stayed away from hot showers and I tried pumping a little. I just pumped less and less each day until I wasn't pumping at all. It definitely prolonged everything but I was so engorged all the time I felt like I had too. Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you...
