My daughter dropped her pink baseball cap in our driveway and left it there a few days. It has stains that look like grease. My husband says I can't throw it in the washing machine.
Any ideas on how to clean it?
I have not tried it, but I have heard that you can put it in the dishwasher. I don't know, but it may be worth a try.
just set it on the top rack of the dishwasher the next time you wash dishes, no heat dry. The DW detergent will get all of the greast out.
Then let it air-dry. My hubby wears hats everyday to work and this is how we clean them every other weekend.
DON"T buy that hat thing - unless you wear the hat constantly and need to wash it constantly, it's a waste of money.
I would wash it in the machine. Just shape it and air dry it when it comes out. As far as the stains go, you can get this stuff called Carbona Stain Lifters (I think). They are available at Joann Fabric for maybe $2.50 each and there are different formulas for different kinds of stains. I have used the one for fat and oil many times with great success.
Hi L., pre-treat the stain with shout gel then wash it in the washer with like colors. The trick with baseball caps is to NOT put them in the dryer! 99% of them will survive the wash very well as long as you let them air dry. Best wishes.
I'm a fan of the dishwasher! It's the only detergent that got my sweat stains out (not to be gross). But you may want to treat the stains with something first! Good luck!
Um, I put baseball caps in the washer all the time... Don't tell you hubby!
We always did the dishwasher. Same idea as the washing machine but doesn't toss the hat around so it keeps its shape. They actually have molds you can put a hat in that are specifically for the dishwaher. No idea where to get them. I would just put some stain remover on it and toss it in on the top rack of the dishwasher. Good luck!
There are things you can buy that are plastic that you clip the hat into to keep it's shape. I have heard you can wash baseball caps in the dishwasher instead of the washing machine. Good luck.
My husband used to mention something about washing them in the dishwasher. We have never had one though so i don't know how well it really works.

I also use the washer. Just shape it when it comes out - no dryer.
Verify what the bill of the cap has inside. If there's cardboard, you can't wash it. But if there's plastic inside it, then you definately can wash it! My son is 14 and has a ton of hats, many over the years. He plays baseball. As long as it's plastic inside you can easily wash them on gentle. Just spray with Shout and hang dry. Flex the bill of the cap to see what's inside. You'll be able to tell. If it's cardboard, spray with Shout and do your best to spot clean.

I occasionally wash my son's and hubby's ball caps in the washing machine. (Most are a beige and light colored with some dark color accents from my hubby's company.) Usually I spray Spray n Wash with Resolve Power on the stains, rub it in and then wash in warm water as well as detergent on the regular/normal cycle. After the wash, I take the ball caps out and drape them over the top of a peanut butter jar or something like that to keep the shape. I usually let the caps sit all night to dry.

Washbaseball caps in the dishwasher. Try pretreating with Shout for the grease stains.
My husband always washes his in the dishwasher. The cap doesn't lose it's shape and it gets clean. Just make sure you keep it on the top rack. Hopefully this helps :)
I would put some original dawn on it and soak it then hand wash it then let it air dry. you may also want to try some oxyclean also. just make sure it the material does not bleed. dawn is good. i put it on my shirt after i dropped pizza on it and it came out in the wash. i put it on my fiancees good phillies jersey when he dropped pizza on his shirt at a game and it came out. goodluck
Buy Oxiclean, make a soaking solution. Soak hat as well as scrub at the stain with a rag or soft brush. That gets rid of most stains. There are also 'cap forms', made of plastic, that you can 'sandwhich' a baseball cap it to put in the washer and keep its shape.

My husband washed his hats ALL THE TIME in a bucket of warm water, soapy with Tide...soaks, swishes, rinses and hangs by the bill on a hanger (O. that has the clips).
I too put them right into the washer and plop them on the fence post to dry. I have three boys and wash alot of hats, never had a problem.
