Hi Moms,

Can anyone suggest volunteer opportunities in the Dallas area to work with bullied children or children who need additional tutoring/mentoring to succeed in school?

What can I do next?

Trinity River Mission - great organization providing terrific resources and after school activities for children in south dallas. Goal to get them to graduate and enroll in post secondary training/school (trade school or college).

The Big Brother, Big Sister program is good. Also, more from a legal standpoint, you could try CASA. This is straight from their website:

"CASA stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocates. Dallas CASA is a non-profit organization of volunteers who are voices for abused and neglected children. The courts appoint CASA volunteers to gather information and make recommendations to help judges decide what is best for each child."

Good for you! Hope you find what you are looking for! =)

LISD does have a mentoring program. United Methodist Church in Lewisville also has a program for homeless teens that helps out with homework, food, mentoring, etc.

Just ask your local school! Ask any teacher you know! After a background check by the school district you can help to your heart's content! Elementary schools need volunteers to listen to kids read or help them with writing or the computer. Good for you..and them!

Why not start by asking the guidance counselor at your school?
Good luck!
