I have a question for you wonderful ladies out there who have kids who like video games or husband who like video games. I wanted to buy my husband a video game like X-Box, Wii or Play Station 3 from the kids for Fathers Day. I do not know which is best and which will "probably" NOT be outdated the moment I leave the store. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. You all are always so helpful. I'm going with the X Box. He will be able to play with his friend in Philly which would so fun for him. The Wii would be great for the whole family maybe a good family Xmas gift when my little girl is a little older so she could play too.

I think the Wii would be great for him and the whole family. We have friends with children who LOVE it. My husband just bought the X-BOX 360 and likes it a lot. He is the only one who uses it though. The Playstation 3 plays Blu-Ray discs, so it is probably pretty cool. I have not seen or used it personally though...Happy shopping!

I would highly recommend the Wii! It's got a lot of the interactive games, and our kids love it. And we can actually play some of the games all together as a family. Very cool! I think it was a great investment! They have even 'bowled' against their grandparents...

Speaking from a family who has all THREE video game systems, I ask what you are looking for in video game entertainment. We are going on our third Xbox now. My husband plays this the most. It has good mature games and a few ones for kids, too. He plays online with friends and really enjoys the quality of the games. The Playstation 3 was a "must-have" two Christmases ago but he complains there just aren't enough good games for it. The Wii is excellent if you want an interactive experience for the family. My kids really love it. My husband only plays this with them. For a true Father's Day gift, I'd say Xbox will give you the most bang for your buck.

lol we have all of them...if you can believe that...and I agree the WII is the best because of the fact the whole family can play and he wont be in front of the tv by himself play the dang thing.

The Wii is good for the whole family. I don't know much about the x-box, but the PS3 is more for very active gamers.

We have the playstation. At a party recently I tried the Wii. I think it is a lot more fun than the playstation. There are a lot of interactive games for your husband & kids to play together too.

We got a Wii for X-mas after trying my cousin's,and we have really enjoyed it. It seems to have a lot going for it so it can continue to be adaptable as new technology is out. I also love that alot of the games require my kids get up and move which is a plus. I also think Nintendo does a nice job with games for kids-my kids love all the Mario games, and they seem to market them for a little younger player. We had a Gamecube before which was also good for my younger kids, but you can't get any new games for it anymore. You can, however, play Gamecube games on the Wii system, and you could probably get a Gamecube and games used for pretty cheap.

I think the Wii too. Some of the games are active so your family is not sitting around staring at the TV screen. Wii fit sounds fun, we don't have it but would love to. Boxing is a blast and a total workout!

Hi Cheryl,
I am a SAHM and have 2 boys, 16 and 7. And it isn't my husband who likes to play games with the boys it's me.
And from first hand experience, I suggest you get the Wii.
Because you have 2 young children at home. And because the
X-Box, X-Box 360 and the Playstation 3 are designed for "kids" over the age of 17 and their games are not geared for the younger children (the games could be quite scary). My 7 year old has the Wii. And it's a blast for all age groups. And if you're not a "gamer" you can still play. In fact a few of the games the whole family can play together. Even grandma and grandpa can play with them. When grandma and grandpa were here they "bowled" with us. There are sport games: baseball, tennis, golf. And they just came out with the Wii Fit, which is basically geared for adults, and you can do some exercising with it. The Wii is really hard to get. The manufacturer is only sending out limited amounts. My 7 year old was going to buy his with gift cards, so we got Sunday's newspaper on Saturday and looked at the ads. Best Buy was advertised as having 25 available to sell. We got to the store at 5 am and there was a line. But we did manage to buy one. For those who looked at their paper on Sunday. They didn't stand a chance. They were sold out within 30 minutes.

I hope this helps.

The Wii is probably better if you don't want them sitting like lumps in front of the TV but as for obsolete-ness, I dunno. BUT We personally got the PS3 after having our PS2 for like 6 yrs. It has a BlueRay DVD player in it (which is awesome if you have a bigscreen) Best way to watch movies plus it plays regular DVDs, and since BlueRay won the war over HD DVD, that is the future and you are all set! Plus the games are higher quality, not quite as many for kids though. So it depends on what you prefer. Our Daddy loves his PS3 though!

I call our house a shrine to video games, my husband has every system under the sun. If the system is really just for your husband I would go with the X-box 360, my husband researches these things like crazy and he really likes his 360. We actually don't own the PS3 we bought all the other PS's but my husband researched them and continues to say that PS3 is made to be outdated. Also there are no longer any games that are solely being released on PS3 like there was with the PS2 so he can get all the games he wants for the 360. I think the Wii is the best family system though, not as many good adult games, but great family games and it gets the kids up and moving and it's a lot of fun for adults too.

We have all 3, as well. My husband and 13 year old daughter play the Xbox 360 and PS3. We all (including a 4 yr old and 2 yr old) play the WII. It's a lot of fun. Our favorite games are WII Fit (tons of games on it) and Carnival (all the traditional carnival games in your living room) and Boogie (a dance/karaoke type game). We have competitions all the time. The WII is great for getting everyone together and off the couch.

Have fun!
