She has gone to the dr with ear aches and the dr said that if when she comes in for her year check up and she has fluid in her ears then he will refer us to an ent dr... I am having similar issues with my 2 yr old. You ned to start with apediatric audiologist, not an ENT. The audiologist will test all tones and leves of tones to find out exactly where the issue is. I may be as simple as fluidin the tubes blocking the sound getting to the hairs in the ears that reflect the sound back. Clear as mud?

What area are you in? We saw a great audiologist in Galv. at UTMB. LMK if you need the #.

I am sorry to say that tubes do not always work. My son was 1 yr old when he had them done. Last summer, the holes where the tubes were inserted never closed and he had to have an additional surgery to reconstruct his ear drums. After all the pain I saw him in, I just prayed that the surgery would work. I didn't. He has already gone down to 80% from the 92% hearing before the surgery. In other words, it backfired and he may need hearing aids anyway. Weigh your options heavily with your pediatrician and your ENT please!

My daughter is fixing to be 2. She was the same way and had 12 ear aches in 6 months. We were referred to a Dr. Douglas and he said she needed tubes. I was not wanting to doit, but I also wanted her to be able to hear. So ofcourse, Iwent forward with the procedure. It WAS worth the 7 minutes that she was in surgery. It is quick and they don't poke them with needles at all. God Bless Them. She is walking, running, and talking up a storm now. When she was doing hardly nothing at all. When we went in 2 wks. after her tubes were put in, he could not believe how much she was talking.

Hey S.,
I will pray for your baby girl. She will do just great, wait and see! Jesus is her healer! Just put your faith in Him. Remember we serve such an awesome God who is able to do exceedingly above and beyond all we could ever ask or even imagine. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. I don't know if you remember the time John's disciples came to ask Jesus was he the one or should they look for another, do you remember His response? He said go tell John the blind recieve their sight and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.(Matthew 11:5) He is still the same awesome, miracle working God He has always been! Your little girl is healed in Jesus Name! Have an awesome day!

Hi S.-

I agree with all the other moms that you should have her hearing checked first, however if those results show that her hearing is fine, please do not let your pediatrician tell you to "wait and see" what happens. Lack of response can be a sign of other developmental delays as well such as autism. If the audiologist does not find a problem I would suggest seeing a developmental pediatrician. The sooner you can find out what is going on the sooner you can get help for your little girl.

Good luck and my thoughts will be with you and your family.

A pediatric audiologist sounds like a great idea. Didn't she have her hearing checked at birth? It's routine, I believe.

Take care and hopefully this won't be as serious as you fear.
