Vbac - Arlington,TX

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I agree with Aimee that watching the documentary "The Business of Being Born" and joining the ICAN network. The women on this group have given me lots of info and helped me to choose my Healthcare provider for my VBAC in December.

I am having my VBAC with Dinah Waranch CNM(Certified Nurse MIdwife) and also have a Doula (labor support) Camron Dearing. Dinah is located in Richardson ###-###-#### and Camron is located in Grand Prairie ###-###-####.

Camron had her VBAC a year ago and her website is www.dallasareadoula.com She had her VBAC at Baylor in Dallas with CNM Lindsey Stevens.

From what I've learned there are MDs that are pro VBAC however the hospitals and their policies are not. I have chosen to birth at a birthing center. If you would like a birthing center, there is one in Grand Prairie. I can't remember the name of it but Sorani Munoz does VBACS there.

It's wonderful that you want to have a VBAC. My first was a c/s and then I had a VBAC last August. It is seriously way easier to take care of both kiddos after a vb. I did a lot of research and ended up going with a mw. However, I know that there are women that have successful vbacs with docs. My recommendation to you would be to meet with area midwives and or doulas and ask them who would be a good physician. The post below mentioned ICAN and I want to second that that is a great help.

Check with the hospital for their policy on vbacs. My Ob was willing to let me have a vbac with my 3rd preg. but the hospital's policy was that if you had a c-section that vbacs were out of the question. The hospital I use is Baylor All Saints. I hope this helps.

As far as doc are concerned, I have heard great things about Dr. Cummings (can't remember which hospital he is at) and Dr. Graham. (I think she is at Baylor Dallas)

If you do want a midwife, I LOVED Lindsay Stephens. I cannot say enough good about her. She is at Baylor. I also used Camron Dearing (who is a personal friend) as my doula and could not have gotten through labor without her. I was not a VBAC, but I know Camron is passionate about VBACs and will be a great support to you. Women who have doulas are way more likely to get their VBAC that women who do not. Camron also would be a good source to find a good doctor or midwife. Good luck and I hope you get your VBAC! You are making a great choice!

Hello T., Congratulations on your new preganacy. I have never had to have a c-section so I have never been in your situation. I did however work for a nurse-midwife who delivered babies in the hospital. They are very compasionate and try to help women have the type of births they want. While a nurse-midwife will probably not do a v-bac, I would venture to say that they would know a Dr. that does. Try looking up a number for one and ask if they can point you in the right driection. I wish you good health and a healthy baby. I have seen many v-bacs go with out a hitch. Good Luck in your endevor.

A lot has to do with the reason you had a c-section in the first delivery. I had a c-section with my son (now 29) because he was breach and over 10 lbs. My daughter was born 11 years later and Dr. Michael Cane, of Arlington (Family Healthcare Associates), delivered her VBAC. She weighed over 9 lbs.

Recovery was amazing! It was so much easier with a vaginal delivery.

I LOVED having a vbac. My first child was a unscheduled-but-expected c-section (my water broke, and he was sideways) on Christmas Day, with a very uncomfortable recovery. When I got pregnant again, 2 years later, I knew I did not want another c-section.

I was in labor with my 2nd child for 24 hours, with an epidural administered when I was at a 9, followed by 2 1/2 hours of pushing. I wouldn't trade my vbac for a quick c-section, tho, b/c the recovery was so great. I was wrestling with my 2-year-old on the floor 2 days after giving birth!

Since you've had a vaginal birth already, you know the difference in recovery times, but I just thought I'd tell you my story.

Unless you want to go to southern Maryland to deliver, I don't have a dr. recommendation, just encouragement that a vbac can be so worth it.

Congratulations! I know there are dr. in Arlington who will do a vbac. I'm sure their will be ladies on here who can give you names. I had both of my kiddos at home with a midwife. Their are lots of midwives in the area who will do a vbac. If it is something you have never considered, you should research it a little. I can't gaurantee that a midwife would accept you as a client, it would depend on your medical history and the reason for your cesarean, but the changes are really good.

My midwife was Molly Germash. She is at www.heartsdesiremidwifery.com. She now has her own birth center near Weatherford, but she used to work out of Family Birth Services in Grand Prairie. The other midwives there are great too. They have a website, I'm just not sure of the address.

Also, I really recommend you watch the documentary, The Business of Being Born. You can get it from Netflix, I know, and maybe Blockbuster Online. It has a lot of good info.

Have you heard of ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network)? They will probably have a lot of good info. and support for you in your vbac quest.

Good for you for looking into vbac. I wish you much success in this pregnancy and hope you have the birth you are looking for.

I am currently seeing a midwife in Hurst, Christy Martin, at Gentle Beginnings Birth Center, she is GREAT! I also know that Dr. Karan Mosely allows VBACs and she delivers at AMH.

As a side note, please also check out ICAN, it is a VBAC support network with great information about how a VBAC is actually LESS risky then having another c-section.

He was my OB for my second & fully supports doing a vbac. You also have to keep in mind that some hospitals won't give you that option even if the dr. will. I ended up having another c-section but it was great to have a dr. support me either way. Another thing that I liked about Dr. Fielder was that when I first mentioned vbac he was supportive but honest. He gave me reasons (medically) why I may not be a candidate and stressed that he must review my medical charts before committing. I felt that he was actually taking my situation into account rather than just doing blanket answers. Anyway, many blessings & congratulations!
