Vasomotor Symptoms - Peri Menopause

The other night I woke up and suddenly got extremely hungry, this turned out to be nausea, then my entire body became limp (I could barely move my arms), my vision turned to a bright white light, and I broke into a cold sweat. This episode lasted for about 2 minutes. I went back to bed and was cold but went to sleep. The next morning I was researching and found there is a TIA or mini stroke. I went to the Dr. and they did an EKG, which turned out normal. The Dr. said this was likely a vasomotor symptom. I am 37 years old, and sadly report don't do much cardio, but I do yoga. I am not super overweight (10 pounds). But what I have researched about vasomotor symptoms is related to peri menopause! This episode seems so extreme for menopause. Has anyone experienced such a thing? They do say women in their 30's can get menopause symptoms.

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

I've had the waking for hunger & for nausea, and I've also had the "bright white" vision, although it wasn't in the middle of the night.

My arms never went limp, but I did have a similar feeling in 1 of my arms.

I will be 44 next week, and have been having menopause symptoms for about 5 years........my symptoms began mild, and only a week at a time. But now, things are much different.......much more frequent and extreme.

I do believe you are having the beginning of menopause, especially if you haven't identified it before this episode. If you pay more attention, you will begin to notice your body changing, and you will feel the changes......in my opinion, it's good to be in touch with it and "feel" it, because it helps me to know when I need to something different for a day in order to cope :O)

Brisk walks can help on a "bad" day........I am to the point, and experienced enough now, when I know if it's going to be a "good menopausal day" or a bad one :O) When it's a bad one, i do things WAAAAAY differently. but that conversation is a whole other posting :O)

I'm glad you're OK after this episode, and yes, it is normal to have early signs and sypmtoms of menopause at your age.

I never knew about vasomotor symptom.........now I do!

There are alot of moms out there who have written in about early menopause. I can only guess that you haven't received other responses because they haven't experienced the "vasomotor" thing.....but, I just wanted you to know "you are in a big club" with early menopause :o)

Have a nice day!

I have had symptoms like yours before.
This can be migrane syptoms.
I got that white blindness from turning on a vacume cleaner. (the noise)
The Dr.'s said classic migrane. I see a heat wave at the edge of things, then the vasomotor changes ( all the veins in my hand dissapear), can't take noise or think right, loose appetitie or crave sweets.
Over the next years the headaches became very bad.
It's worse at specific times each month.
There are treatments NONE very good.
Skip trigger foods, take prevetitive meds, always carry expensive abortive meds, use advil at the first sign of trouble, get regular sleep and days off...
I hope menopause cures me....
Good Luck!

Women in their thirties can get menopause symptoms? A., by your age I was in full-fledged menopause. I was post-menopausal by 42, although lucky me, I continued to have hot flashes on a regular (three or four times a day) basis for the next 16 years. Now I'm 60, and I hardly ever get them.

A.,
I had a similar episode. I was in a restaurant having dinner, when suddenly I felt as if I were going to pass out. Cold sweat, limp, nausea ... I was able to get to the bathroom.I sat on the toilet and had a very loose stool. I also felt like I was going to vomit. I was cold and sweaty. I thought something serious was happening. I put water on my face and in about fifteen minutes, I was able to return to dinner. It really scared me and I went to my doctor who said it was "vasomotor symptom" and nothing to worry about. Sometimes, for unknown reason the vaso nerve is stimulated and that is how your body reacts. I was in early menopause also. This happened only once and it was about 5 years ago. I was around 50 at the time.
