I am looking for some ideas (crafts,games,recipes,ect.) for a first grade classroom valentines party that are easy and cheap. I was put in charge of planning this event for my son's class and have been having a hard time coming up with ideas,so ANY suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

Go to the Dollar Tree get some construction paper and foam cut outs (you can buy those by the bagful). Have them design their own Valentines Day cards for parents, grandparents, etc....Just glue the cut outs on the construction paper. Great memories for moms :-)

You could decorate Valentine's Day boxes or bags or heart-shaped sugar cookies. You could create a word search or have a scavenger hunt. Hope you have a great party!
There is a website www.perpetualpreschool.com where I have found a lot of neat ideas. They have crafts, games, songs, and I believe even snack ideas. All the ideas are submitted by parents or teachers. I used this site all the time when I was working at a daycare to get ideas for activities to do with my class, and they have everything divided into categories, including holidays. Good luck!

I have had several of these partys and we did a really good idea that the teacher game me. You make heart shaped sugar cookies and you take all the stuff to decorate the cookies to school and the children can decorate there own cookies. I got cheep candies and icing and turned them loose with a plastic knife it was wonderful the children were so excited about what they had made to eat. Then we shared the left over candies. Good luck and have fun, we did.
It might be a little easy for first graders, but I did this for the kids meeting in my MOMS Club chapter. I cut out card sized pieces of posterboard and traced hearts on those pieces. Then I took pink and red tissue paper and cut it into smaller pieces. The kids then wadded up the tissue paper and glued it into the heart shaped valentine. The only drawback was that the kids wanted to make an actual folded card which would have been just as easy to do. I spent less than $7 on the entire craft including glue and I still have a ton of supplies left.
To make the craft a little more challenging you could have them cut out the tissue paper and trace their own heart on the card. You could also have them make a bouquet of flowers by just making an oval shaped tissue clump instead of a heart.
One game I'm going to have is this:
Red Licorice Chew
Supplies: Piece of red string licorice for each child (and a few extras in case they are dropped)
How To Play: Children stand in a circle. Give each child a piece of licorice. They place the very end in their mouth and then place their hands behind their back. When a parent gives the word "GO" they will try to eat the licorice without touching it.
I have first grade, too. I think they're going to love it.
You could make heart shaped BINGO cards - instead of putting BINGO at the top, you could put HEART. Have their place markers be conversation hearts. You could also make Tic-Tac-Toe boards for them and play with X's & O's, or X's & heart's. Have them make a paper heart necklace - just cut out some hearts for them and let them string them. Or get some pasta, dye it w/food coloring, let them string that on yarn for a necklace for their mom.

Crafts - Oriental Trading has lots of crafts that will work for your son's class.
Games - Our first graders have enjoyed bean bag tosses, hot potato, ring tosses, pin the tail on the donkey. Most of these games can be customized to fit the holiday. Use heart shaped bean bags, heart shaped "rings", pin the arrow on the heart (using sticky tac or tape), etc.
Recipes - Wilton has a heart shaped cupcake pan if you really want to get ambitious. There's also lots of heart shaped cookie cutters. Kids don't really care - just use plenty of sprinkles!!!
We also have gone to juice boxes or koolaid bursts in the classrooms. Our PTO purchased new carpeting last year for all the classrooms. The juice boxes are less likely to spill than an open cup.
