I am very active in our churches youth group with the economy the way it is I want to make sure I provide a very good but, cost effective VBS for 2009. We are going with the theme: Get In The Game which for the kids I will do Basketball night, Baseball night, Football night, and the last night we will do a creative spirit night (for our church). Any ideas on crafts or things we could do to help us pump up the kids excitement would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What can I do next?

If there are any local college or High School players of those sports that are popular you could have them come and give autographs to the kids and talk about how they trained and such. Then you could relate how they had to focus to achieve their goals on how you have to focus on God.

Just a thought, probably inexpensive and if one of the people chosen is a big brother or sister there could be a lot of pride there.

I would also suggest Oriental Trading - from your About Me it sounds like you might not have much time to create your own crafts. Oriental Trading has great stuff that is pretty inexpensive, although you might need to buy things like craft glue to make some projects.

hint: ANYTIME you order something online - ALWAYS open a new Tab or Window & do a search for a discount/coupon code. Ex: Oriental Trading coupon code. There are probably 20+ sites out there that exist just to help people find coupon codes. I always do this.

Same thing applies to coming up with ideas. I usually just do a search. ex: VBS sport crafts,

Check out Oriental Trading for craft ideas. If it is too expensive to go that route, then get the ideas from there and then find cheaper materials to make the craft. They have a whole religious section. Good Luck!

You could do some fun contest like Dribble for Jesus. Have the kids get into groups based on ages. The kids that can dribble the longet wins a small prize.. Religous Tatoos are always great.

For Baseball, we always had a pitching booth for the kids to throw the ball..If you have a police officer a a member of the church, see f he can borrow a radar gun. Sometimes league teams have them and will send a volunteer player to run the radar gun for you. We would have a huge bulletin board covered in butcher paper and we would have the kids "autograph" it with their best speeds.

For creative Spirit Night, have the kids decorate huge banners that can be hung.. Have the kids write what they love about their religion..
