Upgrading to a Booster Seat

Hello fellow moms... my now four year old is outgrowing one of our convertible seats and we need to upgrade to a booster.
Do you have any product recommendations for me?

I know about the Britax frontier and I am considering it, but to be quite honest I would prefer not to spend $250 on a booster seat. It seems a bit excessive and I think much of it is just making us parents paranoid to get us to buy overpriced items. The way she's gaining weight my daughter won't be 85 lbs until she is a teenager, so I doubt we'll need that kind of range.

I need some suggestions (pros and cons) for a good mid-range booster that is not taking up the entire backseat of a compact car. Harnessed for a little longer (say 65 lbs) would be great.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I will stop by BRU and check out the Graco, Frontier and a new Safety First model I found - then I'll make a decision on what will be a good fit for our car/needs.

i just went to target and got a regular high back booster seat when my daughter turned two....i know its very young but she is the size and height of a 3.5 year old....she is very tall for her age also. kind of funny since im like 5'2 and my kids are going to be so much bigger than me

For safety and comfort reasons, i still have my 4.5 y old ( 45lb) in britax convertible seat. I just adjust the straps to her height etc. I'm a mom on the go, so we spend a lot of time driving around. Especially short and long trips, so napping is the most comfortable for her as it could be.

I went with the Graco Nautilus (actually one for each car) when my son outgrew his original seat. It gets excellent ratings, has a steel frame, works with a 5 point harness up to 65 pounds and then as either a high back or low back booster after that. It lists for $190 but I got mine at Cosco for about $137 which I think you can also find on Amazon and other sites.

I looked at the Britax and the Graco and couldn't see spending the additional $$ for what didn't look any better to me in the safety ratings. Very happy with the Nautilus.

The down side is it is HEAVY (steel frame) - 28 lbs - so we do not use it for airplane travel - I bought a low back booster for when we fly out of town.

We have the Graco Nautilus and LOVE it. It uses the 5 pt. harness up to 65 pounds, then converts to a high back booster, then a regular seat booster. I've seen them as low as $135 for the not as new fabrics/prints, in fact, that's what I paid for ours.

If you want her harnessed till 65 lbs. I don't know why you wouldn't want the Frontier. It is really a great seat. No, it's not little, but not that much bigger than the others.
Amazon has it for $212...I paid $300 for mine 3 years ago.
I don't think that is overpriced for the quality of the seat at all.
We also have a Graco Nautilus.
It is an ok seat. Not made as well or as sturdy-but a decent choice.
I am certain my child will outgrow this seat long before the Frontier. The actual seat part is smaller. My DD is tall and skinny.
Have you gone to BRU to compare? That is what helped me...then I bought it online where it was much cheaper.
HTH!
Feel free to pm me if you have any Q's. :)

I put each of my kids in a regular booster from Walmart when they got tall enough, each around 3-4 years old. I don't usually drive anywhere that is over 40 MPH so I am really not worried about high speed crashes on the highway. If we traveled a lot I might be but there is no way I would spend over $50 on a booster. The purpose of a booster is to make the child tall enough to be seated in the seat and use the seat belts across their chest. They can also see out of the vehicle better too.

We have the britax frontier. Safety first for me after a fatality accident once. It goes up to 120 lbs with the seatbelt.
