First, thank you to all who responded yesterday! It was very very helpful to me in making my decision! (and I do not like change and really drag my feet, so I needed to hear what you all had to say!)
So, I made the call today! We will have our new internet next Thursday through AT&T and they are coming for our satellite install (Direct TV) on Friday! I can' t wait to cancel my expensive and worthless cable! Not only will our service provide viewing in every room of our home in HD and all channels (we currently only have HD on 1 tv and only basic cable on 3 tvs) but the bill is $64 a month cheaper for the 1st year and even when it goes up, will STILL be cheaper, and I can call and downgrade our pkg!
So...again, thank you!
My question: Any channels I should check out!? LOL!

I love almost all the channels we have via DirecTV. I love the mysteries and A&E...good music too!!
Congratulations. My favorite channels are CNBC, Lifetime Movie Network, TCM, Hallmark channel, National Geographic Channel, and History channel.
I threatened to leave cable (to the cable sales people) if they didn't redo my charges. I lost one channel I liked, but saved $50 per month.
I left Direct TV because they had a real good sales promotion and they wouldn't let me have the deal because I was already a DTV subscriber. So I said so you mean if I wasn't a directv subscriber, I could get the deal. They said yes. So I said, ok cancel my directtv. Then I asked for the new subscriber promotion. They said I had to not be a subscriber for 30 days. So I've been a cable subscriber for three years now.
They didn't give me the discount and lost my business for 3 years and counting. Sears did something like that and they lost my business about 30 years ago.
Consumers revenge. ;~))

We love our directtv ans customer service has been great. If you know someone with it you can give them that person"s account number and you will both get $10 off every month for a year. Let mw know if you want mine, LOL :) Enjoy the new tv.
Added: once you ate no longer under contract call them with current promotions for them or dish and they will lower your price.
Congrats! We love our DirecTV! Our daughter (and I) love Sprout (a PBS Kids channel). If you have younger kids (mine is 4), this is a great channel! My husband & I are football fans, and DirecTV is one of the few subscribers that carries the NFL Network. Did you get the HD DVR? We have it, and it holds so much more than the cable DVR's! We've had DirecTV for quite a while, so it is more expensive for us than the local cable (Cablevision) company, but it's so much better - well worth the extra money!
