Unusually Light Period....??

I'm on birth control but was on an antibiotoc that counteracts the pill for a few weeks this month. We did not have unprotected sex while I was on the antibiotic, we waited until I was off of the antibiotic for a couple of days. My period was due to come Monday morning (it always does) and didn't come until Tuesday night/Weds morning. They are ususally really heavy, and I'm crampy for a few days, but this time I was only crampy on Tuesday afternoon and it's really really light! So light that this morning there was almost nothing on the tampon. (TMI, I know! Sorry!!) I also have periods for 7 days- always. It's so light that I think I might be finished today- only 2 1/2 days!?

I guess in the back of my mind I'm thinking that maybe I should take a pregnancy test.... Just wanted to get some other opinions. Thanks, and sorry again for the gross details :)

*Edit**
My period did officially stop yesterday, just over two days. I'm going to take a pregnancy test today just to ease my mind. I don't want to start a new month on birth control if there's a chance I'm pregnant. Eeeek!

What can I do next?

If taking a pregnancy test would set your mind at ease, go buy one. Stressing out over it will only make you crazy. I have been on the same prescription of birth control pill since I was seventeen and I have noticed that as I have gotten older, my periods have changed. Not even over a long period of time, just all of the sudden. I used to have a cycle like you described. Seven days and really heavy, but in the last year or so my periods have gotten really light. Sometimes only a panty liner is needed. It worried me at first, but my mom said she experienced the same thing, and my ob/gyn was not concerned when I saw him at my yearly. I welcome those light periods now!

I'd get a pregnancy test to be sure. But pills do change what's going on in your body and not every period is necessarily the same.

And don't apologize for "gross" details! This a normal bodily function and you aren't going to get any good advice if you withhold information! I see moms all over this site apologizing for discussing poop or periods or whatever, when that is the purpose of this site and the purpose of their inquiries!

Good luck!

I would take a test. You described my periods both pregnant and not, to a "T".

The antibiotic doesn't just counter the B/C while you're on it, what happens is, it makes the B/C not work at the time which means your body isn't getting the "I'm pregnant" fake hormones and goes back to cycling at the time. So you aren't covered for the next month-ish. Basically, you can ovulate any time and need to use protection through your next month of pills - just like when you started taking them the first time.
Take the test to make sure. And if it ever comes up again, remember you can be fertile and need to use protection.
