Hi D.,
I've always liked Nyla or Noelle. I've even liked Jovanna or Nicolina for a girl's name. My neighbor named her daughter Nyla and a girl I knew in college Ligaya (in the filipino language it means, 'happiness') I saw an orchid @ a greenhouse once that was called, Leilia.
Hope you find one...

Here are a few ideas:
Seeing as your son's name is Dimitri, the first name that came to mind was D'Amber. She was a good friend of mine in high school. It if of French influence. "De" in French means "of", but when "De" is followed by a word starting with a vowel it becomes "d'" and attaches to the following word. So- it would be De Amber, but becomes D’Amber. You could also come up with a name you really like that’s “ordinary” and change it up a little bit. Like my husband LOVES the name Chloe; I like it, but feel it never really grows up. So we have agreed that if we ever have a little girl her name will be Khloette and we’ll call her Khloe. We also plan that if we ever have a 2nd girl, she will be named after all three of my hubby’s sisters. Their names are Catalina (Cathy), Gloria, and Ana. So our second girl will be named Kathryn Gloriana. Maybe you have an Aunt, Sister, or Grandmother that is really special to you. Say her name is Renee’. Mixing it up with your name you could make it Redawne’ or Redawny. Also, my friend has a daughter that is half white and half African American. They named her daughter Ashaya Rubina. My father-in-law is named Ruben and thought that Rubina would be a cute way to name a child after him, with out naming ANOTHER person Ruben. (Also my brother-in-laws name.) So maybe there is a male that you’d love to name sake in some way. Say your hubby’s name is Lukas, your daughter could be Lukina or Lukalyn.
Have fun playing with all the possible combinations, and congratulations! ~J.

Congrats on the new addition on your family! I have three children and they all have names starting with M's(Marcus, Mason, & ...). When I had my daughter (middle child) I was looking for an M name that was pretty and was NOT common. I finally found the perfect name... Malia. Pronounced ma-LEE-ah. Malia is Hawaiian and is a form of Mary. Malia or Malie means quiet, gentle water. When the water is all flat on the surface, it is "malie". My daughter is not quiet at all but she loves her name and everyone is always commenting on how beautiful it is. I believe there is also a famous model/surfer in Hawaii named Malia:) Good Luck and keep Malia in mind:)

Hi D.,
Congratulations on your baby girl! I also have an 11 year old stepson but he doesn't get to live with us full time, which has been too bad for him - his mom is an unstable character to say the least.
My h and I were so happy to be having a daughter and were thrilled to find out she was a girl when she was still in the womb. We named her Rachel (after my beloved grandmother - also an Old Testament character in the Bible who was known for being exceptionally beautiful) and her middle name is D. :) after a great friend who was very supportive to us during my pregnancy.
Two names I love for a girl are Alexandra (not that common these days but not totally different, I know) which means "helper of mankind" and also Zarafina, which is a very uncommon name meaning "heavenly" - I like it a lot. I didn't know of it before having my daughter or she might have ended up with it as her middle name. I was always set on Rachel for her first name due to the family relationship I wished to honor. Sarafina is another very similar name that is still uncommon, and means, "Ardent angel" taken from the seraphim in the Bible.
By the way, just so you know, I was reading something the other day that said the name "Unique" was becoming extremely common for kids!! The irony of it! LOL! I wouldn't name my kid that anyway...just doesn't seem like a name to me...??
God bless you and your family and especially your little one on the way - hope you have a healthy pregnancy and speedy delivery. :)

Hi D.,
I too, have multi-racial kids and have a daughter whom I named, Karissa. I think, "Karissa" is a unique name--it sounded common, but so far, I have not heard of anyone called by that name in her school of about 500 girls. You may give your daughter a Cherokee Indian middle name to make it more unique.
I had considered these names too: Jordin, Juna, Ysabel, Jasmin Rae, Carmi....want more? Just kidding...I hope these names will help you and your husband decide the name of your new baby. God bless...

Congratulations! There is a book called "Cool Baby Names" which is fun to look through. Also, if you go on the social security website you can look up whatever name you want. The site will provide how many babies were born with that name in a given year and what percentage of all the babies have that name. It's really neat and will definitely let you know of the uniqueness of your name!
Good luck,

I named my oldest daughter, Soonseeahraye (pronounced Saun-see-a-ray). It Apache. It means Morning Star or Princess of the Sun Gods. She was the niece of Cochice. We nicknamed her CC because she was born in Cook County in Chicago. I got the name from an historical book I was reading. That is the correct spelling. Hope that helps in your selections. R.

Hi D. - First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!
My name is very unique and throughout my lifetime it has received compliments. In school and anything I was involved with people new me because I was the only "C.". In the 50's my mom read it in in a book called "Pride's Castle" - in which the main character had a baby girl by that name. It left such an impression that ten years later on the delivery table, she remembered the name and gave it to me. I've had two friends give it to their daughters as middle names, but I think if you're looking for something unique it makes a wonderful first name. It has a couple of meanings...
caprice1 [kəˈpriːs] noun
an especially unreasonable sudden change of mind etc; a whim
Pick a name that has meaning to you. My friend named her daughter after a place that they had stayed at in Hawaii when she was conceived. Personally I think it is cute to stay with the same first letter, since you and your son both start with "D" here are my votes:
Dalila means gentle in Kenyan
Demetria means goddess of Harvest in Greek
Destinee means destiny in French
Have fun with it,
R.

My daughter (who is also mixed) is Isis Makali Aurora. My husband picked three goddesses (from three different cultures) because he said his daughter would always be a goddess in his eyes. The sound of the name being unique is great, but give her something she can also know the meaning or source of that she can take pride in. Isis was almost Mandolyn Raine. Try A World of Baby Names book, it breaks them down by language/ethnicity.

I was also looking for a name that hasn't been used that much. I was so tired of the same names. When I found out that I was having a girl the first time I used the name Haven. I haven't heard this name used and I fell in love with this name. I also had the name Devin picked out as a back up. When I found out that I was having another girl, I named her Taylor Jenelle and she goes by her initials most of the time. : )

Hi D.,
We went through several names for our Native American/Spanish daughter. We ended up with Sierra Laura-Marie. Sierra for the Sierra Nevada's, Laura for her paternal grandmother and Marie for her maternal grandmother. If I had it my way I would have went with Sierra Glen, but hubby said Glen is for a dude...that is his name. His name Glenwood means the mountains merging together.
A mexican friend of mine recently asked me if I knew I named my daughter the mountain (lol).
She is Native American and Latin, go with something earthy but in spanish. Add or take away from them.

It probably wouldn't be so good to go as far as naming your little one: Precious Princess. No joking, it's true. One of the clients for my office actually named their child that. Have fun deciding.

www.babynamesworld.com is great place to find names. My sons were both named after literary figures/characters. My oldest Aleksander is named for my favorite character ALeksei Karamazov from the Brothers Karamazov and my youngest Dante is named for Dante is named for Dante Alegeri author of the Divine Comedy (also known as Dante's inferno). The names I had picked for girls(if I'd had any) were: Aeriall Sabrine, Aleksianna Leigh, Nathaseeyah Aelanee. I'm not having anymore kids. But they were fairly unique but not too strange that they would be made fun of. Kids make fun of other kids with normal names, you don't want to give them starter fuel.

Congratulations on the new additon to ur family. I always seem to have the problem of finding a name that is not so common. With my daughter I chose the name Tiana. I don't hear it much, but before she was born I never heard of it. My son's name is Trinton. What I do is give them a semi-normal firt name and go all out with the middle name. My daughter's nejah and my son's is Kye. A girl in a previous post suggested my name unkowingly and it is a very good name, but it can get mispronounced a lot. It is pronounced (Day-shi-a). But if I have another girl I was thinking about Taleia or Taleya.
