Tylenol/Motrin Recall

Hi moms-

I just found out about this recall from last week. Of course the Infant Tylenol I have is part of this recall. My 8 month old is also teething and while she's great during the day (when she can be distracted), we've been using Tylenol at night to help her sleep. Does anyone have any other recommendations for pain/fever relief from teething? We do the usual non-medicated tricks such as gum massage, teething toys and a bit of Bonjela. Any other ideas are welcome.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

K.,
My son LOVES/D frozen pancakes at that point in time. (now that it is warm, he's back into them. : )

We also used arnica. You can use the tabs or just use a mortar/pestle and dissolve the resulting powder into water. Not NEARLY as much sugar as the other products. I kept T/M on hand JUST IN CASE of those really high fevers you hear about, but haven't used them for a fever since learning from pediatrician which fevers to treat.

Other ideas too, if you want email me!
Good Luck,
M.

Any of the store brand acetaminophen products should be fine.

The recall only affected products made by McNeil Pharmaceuticals which manufactures most of the name brand products (Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl, etc).

I'd recommend asking your pediatrician and pharmacist. We received conflicting information from our pharmacist vs. what's listed on the website for the company.

The other problem is that the recall only lists NDC numbers (National Drug Code) vs. actual manufacturing lot numbers. So, it's possible you have something completely safe that the recall requires you to stop using as they don't know when the manufacturing problems began.

My son has an ear infection and we've been using Target's brand of both Motrin and Tylenol (Ibuprofen and Acetominophen, respectively). They both worked on him fine in reducing fever and pain.

Hylands Teething tablets are AMAZING!!!!! We love them. They seem to do the trick!

How about some diluted chamomile or ginger tea? If she's on a sippy cup, this could help.

Amber teething necklaces may or may not help, but they are an easy thing to try.

I keep Tylenol in my cabinet...mine was affected too, but unopened. I have only given it 2 times to my 2 1/2 year old...I think those things can do more harm than good, although they can be appropriate for certain times.

For a fever associated with illness, not just teething, you can use Temp Assure, although its recommended for over 1 year. (You can keep it in mind for later)

Good luck.

I picked up Infant Advil after I heard about the recall. It doesn't seem to work as well as the Motrin did, but it helps. We also use Hylands teething jel and teething tablets. Good luck.

Generic brands of Tylenol and or Motrin are safe. I use Target's brand of Ibuprofen for my son.

I use to wet down the corners of a hand towel, freeze it and let my daughter chew on that.
I also agree with Sami O. I've never seen any problems with the generics.

I've been told that the store brands are fine to use. With her being 8 months old, I would use the store brand of Motrin. It was developed for dental pain and works wonders for teething. Much better than Tylenol IMO.

Did you check the NDC code for your product? Originally I heard that all the products being recalled had been produced between April and June of 2008. It might have changed since Monday when I researched it. Go to http://www.tylenol.com/page2.jhtml?id=tylenol/news/ndc_fi... to be sure. Personally, I like Tylenol. It is the only thing i really feel comfortable about giving. I am going to wait to pass judgement on the company until we hear the reasons how the batches were contaminated. I still consider myself a Tylenol user.

The generics are ok if you want to continue the route of Tylenol at night. I used Hylands teething tablets. They work for some kiddos and some not.

you would not believe it but vanilla extract, use q-tip to rub the extract on the gums. you could also use store brand pain relief for infant.

I have used Teething tablets for all three of my boys for teething. They are natural and best to give. The only times I have given tylenol to my boys were if they are so uncomfortable from fevers, which I know that fevers are fine when they aren't that high and it's the body's way to fight infections whatever is in their bodies. So, give your child Teething Tablets and I preferred that instead of Teething Gel because I never knew if the gel actually got on the part that the tooth or teeth were coming in. Hope she gets her sleep soon with such pain coming.
