I am about 19 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if its possible for me to be having twins and the doctors not be able to see one of the babies... I feel movement low in my belly where I am supposed to but I also have been feeling movement that you can touch me and feel maybe 2 fingertips below my ribcage actually my boyfriend has felt this movement as well as I have... PLZ HLP!!!*** This is my second pregnancy,, I am much bigger around the middle with this one, but my doctors dont use the measuring method until after 20 weeks and I dont go back to the doctor until feb. 12 and on that day they are going to do another ultrasound... but I dont know of anyone in my family having twins or anything, but with my son (1st pregnancy) I didnt even feel him move until about 19 weeks and didnt start to "show" until I was about 6 1/2 months pregnant with him, this one you could visibly tell that I am pregnant since about 12weeks, but my son was born kinda on the small side to he was 20 1/2 inches long and weighed 6lbs and 7oz. so I dont know, I have only had blood work done once. in the very begining, Any Ideas of what might be going on please let me know... and thanks to all who have responded to my question..

What can I do next?

It could be possible. I have heard of people not knowing until there second ultrasound which is usually 20 weeks or so. They did not catch my extra baby on the first ultrasound, but when I did a second ultrasound( in the first trimester) they found her.

I would think that they would be able to see a second baby, and also hear a second heartbeat. You might just have a very active baby! My nephew was extremely active during my sister's pregnancy. Once she first felt him, he never stopped! Now he's almost 18 months old and we're still waiting for him to slow down! haha

Congrats on the pregnancy! I have twins, and my first question would be more about size. Do you feel abnormally large for your gestation? I began wearing maternity pants at 7 weeks and was obviously pregnant at 9 weeks. By the time I was 20 weeks, I looked 7 months pregnant. My guess would be that it's a singleton, but it is possible to not see a baby on the ultrasound. If you're really concerned, share this with your OB.

Well with how far along you are you can measure yourself. If you don't have a flexible tape measure then measure with a string, from pelvis to top of uterus. If it is a few cm larger then 19 I would say then maybe you are having twins. If it is just a little bit over I am 23 weeks measuring 24 then I wuoldn't worry or think it was twins. I showed much sooner with my second and felt a lot more kids and pushes sooner also and now with my third it is even earlier then my second. So odds are it is just one baby in there. I am 23 weeks and am about as big as I was full term with my first already! Oy! Long way to go.lol

I was pregnant with twins and I am sure your doctor could tell by taking a urine or blood test if you were pregnant with multiples. You can see it in an ultrasound as well. I am sure you are pregnant with a singleton. :)

Well you should be due here for your 20 week US in the next week or two. I would not worry about it at this moment. The babies at 19 weeks are very small. If you are getting a lot of movements it is just because the baby is moving around. You may be getting some after effects from movements as well. Really if you see what a 19 week fetus looks like, you would understand that a lot of your movement is deferred movement. What is your fundal height measuring at. This is more of an indicator of multiples than movement. At 19 weeks gestation there is a lot of room and little bit of baby. So, probably singleton movements plus some gas, especially if you are getting it under your right rib cage. So relax and know that you will soon know in a week or two. Especially if it was a natural conception, my guess would be singleton. CONGRATS on your little mircle...

i would think that they would have found twins by now. it can be one baby making all the fuss. the first time i felt my son move he kicked so hard he hit the table (16 weeks) after that it was non stop i wasnt sure how he had so many places poked at the same time. but sometime you could see bumps in 3 or 4 places poking out of my tummy. one kid has lots of things to poke with 2 hands, 2 elbows, 2 feet, head, butt. if you are measuring the right size for the rigth week and they have only heard 1 heart beat and seen one baby on ultra sound i would say that you probably have a very active baby. ENJOY! later on in my pregnancy i swear my son could lift me off the bed with one push in my tummy. i think my son was always head down so his head hit me low and his feet were in my ribs leaving his hands and butt free to poke out my sides lol

Chances are its only one, but I know several other twin mommies that didn't find out until their 18-20 week anatomy u/s. Depending on how early your first u/s one it is possible they missed a baby, but again, not likely. Really theres not much done differently for a twin preganacy until the baby reaches viability anyway, so just hang in there and wait until the 12th and see if you get a surprise!
