Any recommendations for good, reasonable priced twin beds and mattresses for a boy? What type of mattress is best? Thank you.
If you have a Sams club card, they have pretty cheap mattresses and they are Serta, good brand. Also i just bought a metal bed frame for my daughters twin bed. These are nice because they are inexpensive and you can always add a head/foot board onto it later on.

We've been very happy that we spent a little more for furniture that can totally grow with our family as our children's ages and needs change. We also purchased the mattress from them - not the most expensive one - it was mid-range in price but boy, its nice. Better than the one my husband and I have and we often fight over who gets to cuddle with our son its so comfy!
Ikea has stylish yet inexpensive choices for beds and a large variety of mattress choices too. My husband and I recently purchased a new mattress there and loved it so much we then purchased our 2 year old son's twin bed and mattress there as well.
Sams Club. My kids have never complained and I've rested on it a few times myself.

We purchase our beds at Village Mattress in North Aurora. They are very knowledgeable and great prices. They will sell you what you need for a child. We kept the twin beds for quite a while, then as the kids got older, bought them full sized beds. We have been loyal customers for over 25 years!
It depends on how long you want it to last. I would suggest going to a mattress store, not a furniture store since they work on commission and would suggest the higher end. Let them know how long you want the mattress to last and that it is for a small child, they can make recommendations. Also, what kind of bed do you want--something he can use for a long time or just for a few years. Consider something that could transition to 5 or 6 yrs old or even 10. If $$ is a big factor, you could check out IKEA for a bedframe. They are reasonably priced.
Have you ever seen the sign off the Kennedy, near Chinatown that says Rooms for Kids? I went there a couple of months ago and they have high quality kids furniture (he makes the furniture for Land of Nod and Pottery Barn Kids) for discount prices. All of the beds there include the mattress. It is still pricey, but a fraction of the price that you would pay at one of these stores. I am planning on returning soon to purchase both of my children new dressers.
IKEA has everything, and very affordable, too!
