Trying to Find Very Low Sugar Cold Cereal

We are having trouble finding low sugar cold cereal. The lowest we can find is around five grams (per "serving"), such as Earth's Best brand. We consider that amount of sugar to be excessive and unnecessary for a baby. We'd ideally like to find something in the 2-3 grams range. Does anybody know of any cereals we could look at? Thank you.

I found something that might help:

Cheerios (General Mills), with just 1 gram of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, and 190 milligrams of sodium.
Kix (General Mills), with 3 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, and 210 milligrams of sodium.

They taste very good without any extra sugar.

Have you tried Kix? It's Whole Grain and only 3 grams of sugar. Great for learning to self feed too.

Are you talking about baby cereal? If so make your own. Cook brown rice as you normally would, then run it thru a blender or food masher of some sort, adding water to get the consistency you want. I used a hand held braun blender. If you are talking about regular cereal, cheerios or kix are your best bet. Look at natural food stores or Trader Joes, everyone makes their versions of "cheerios". Just read the labels in the natural section.

Dear D.:

Whole Foods, Sunflower Market, etc. have the puffed grains such as barley, wheat, and rice cereals with zero sugar (they come in bags and are very economical). They may have them at regular groceries but I wouldn't know for sure. For a baby, these cereals are perfect, although they are not labeled or sold as a "baby food". I also use them to mix into my own cereal to reduce the amount of sugar per serving.

Best wishes,

M.

Have you thought about cold oatmeal? My daughter loves cold steel cut oats. Also, even though the sugar content of cereal may seem excessive, nature's perfect baby food, breastmilk, is incredibly high in sugar, with an estimated 20 grams per serving.

Cheerios, Rice Chex, Kix, Kashi - all low

While I commend you for limiting your sugar intake, high fructose corn syrup is much worse than sugar. So, instead of reading just the sugar grams, see where the sugar is coming from. google it and read for yourself.

good luck..

shredded wheat, just let it get a bit soggy first, grape nuts (heat in milk to soften, then add milk once it cools and serve cold), bran flakes (depending on the brand), cheerios, wheat chex (depending on the brand)
It is tough, odd uh, just keep reading lables.

Did you try Post Shredded Wheat? I know the "Shredded Wheat and Bran" has no sugar. My daughter kinda likes it with some cinammon sprinkled on top.

D., Sugar is the least of your worries. What about the belached white flour? or the "trisodium phosphate"? Or event the BHT?

Breakfast cereal is in among the WORST things to feed you or your kids. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. With most cereals, you may as well eat the box. The brain needs FOOD, not processed chemically altered garbage. Sorry if this seems blunt, but my goodness, if parents just knew what they were feeding their kids. It is my passion to teach parents how to feed their kids. I will not appologize for that. If you want help, just aks.

We give our daughter Cascadian Farms Purely O's (1g). If too plain I'd sprinkle with cinnamon or a drop of pure vanilla or something to sweeten it up. We haven't had to do that yet though.
