Try renting from an individual. I used to rent a 1 bdrm condo for 550 a month from an individual. Look at Bimini Isle condos on Bissonnett and Fondren. They're across the street from Chase bank. See if there are any "for rent" signs up.

The term SW Houston covers a lot of territory. But to start I would contact an Apartment Finder company and tell them your income and situation - they can determine what you can "afford" and will look accordingly. In the meantime, check out what Assisted Living options are available such as housing for families on limited incomes - you might even find a modest house to rent with HUD funds to help out, that sort of thing.

try the apartment complex in Pecan Grove (Richmond area) - it may be out of your way but my daughter and he 3 month old son live there - very clean, safe, and well priced... it is an older complex, though... I think it is called Old South or Grand South...

Try Camden's there is one off Westhiemer and cook they had soom good prices on effecentcy and one bedroom about 395 to 420 it might have changed. You can get almost the same deal at Camden at one at Westhiemer Dairyashford going south on Westhiemer at next light make right on left side.
