I am new to the whole Trunk or Treat thing, but think it is a great idea. My son's daycare is doing it, and we are supposed to decorate our "trunks". I have a Honda Pilot and am completely blanking on how to possibly decorate the back of it. Any suggestions from you experienced mommas?

Update: Okay, I guess I should know, is the back or trunk open or closed during this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone. We got a cauldron from walmart for the play-doh, and a skeleton to hang from the door. My son wanted our tick or treat (2 foot tall) Eeyore in there too. I used some fall fabric to hide some of the back of the car mess, and hung cobwebs on the dog fence. My husband even suggested some dry ice. It wasn't spooky or anything, but the kids thought it was cool. Definitely not the best decorations, but not the worst either, and we had a great time.

I have just gone as simple as sitting a bowl in the trunk and putting Fall flowers around it, I out a smallish box in the trunk and placed a dark piece of fabric over it then placed the candy bowl in then placed the flowers. I have also decorated it as much as possible with skeletons and pumpkins and witches, everything can hang from the door and it can be very fun.

I did it last year i have a white trail blazer and i decorated it to look like a cow! i used that FOAM paper stuff and made the cow spots you can use magnets to keep it on the car without hurting the paint, maybe you could find a animal that looks like your car.

For the Trunk or Treat we attended last year we decorated our open trunk with Christmas stuff because we usually decorate our house for Christmas around now and we already had the stuff so I didn't have to buy anything!

We are making a big spider out of large green garbage bags and black pantyhose, then we will take that glow in the dark spider web stuff and drape it all over the van.

The trunk is open during this, lol. We sat in the back of our van with the back open and handed out candy last year. It is an amazing idea.

Yes your trunk is open...Pick some sort of theme. The church we used to attend does this every year. Some of the ones I remember: One family took a harvesty table cloth and laid it on the bottom, then they put pumpkins and small bales of hay around and a had a candle with a harvest smell lit. She would then have a container that had her candy in it and pass it out that way. Another trunk was the bed of a truck and they handed out caramel covered apples and hot apple cider while having one of those all sides closed type fire pits lit. Another one would have a pumpkin and then a pumpkin that had the top carved out and then a pumpkin that was carved with a candle in it and tell the kids a story before he would pass out the candy. Hope these ideas give you ideas to work with.... Have FUN!

open.
Get some of the fake spider web stuff, and stretch it all around the opening.
Or get some Halloween streamer type stuff, and hang it across the top of the opening and the across the bumper.

I had a ring toss game in the back of my Xterra one year. It was great... I just sat on the bumper and they kids threw rings.. :))

I have gone to a few trunk or treats. Love it cause it's so easy when you have little ones. I know not all people decorate their trunks but I have seen some. They usually just get some of the fake spider weds and put that on the top of the trunk door and around the bowl of candy. Or most stores sell Halloween tinsel (like black and orange) So you could hang that around your car. Some hang bats for the top of the trunk with string. I have even seen someone with a little container of dry ice placed in the far back of the trunk (so the kids can't get to it) and then their car is all smoky.
