Ok, so my 3 year old got ahold of some silly putty when I wasn't looking, and he sat on some of it on the carpet in his shorts, now it is embedded in the tail of his T-shirt, the butt of his shots, and a cmall dime sized blob in my carpet! UHG! Anyone have some tried and true tricks for getting this out?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter got silly putty in her Pillow Pet. Yay.

Get out as much as you can, and then rub the rest of it with baby oil. (I've read WD-40 works, too, but since this was a stuffed animal, I used the baby oil.) then just sit with an old comb, and it'll comb out. That should work for the carpet; for the clothes, you can scrub it over and over with a soft rag or paper towel. (You'll have to be patient for both!) Then just run the clothes through the wash, and blot up the baby oil from the carpet as you normally would (steam cleaner, maybe?).

Good luck!

Use canned air...shoot it directly to the carpet and Silly Putty. The compressed air will freeze it solid so you can scrape it gently from the surface. As for the silly putty on clothing...I just had it happen a few weeks ago. It is recommened on a website that WD-40 will take it out...however, this will most likely stain the clothing. Use rubbing alcohol liberally on the entire are affected and then it should peel right off using your fingernail or a butter knife....we had success with the rubbing alcohol, but the silly putty was colored and stained the clothing as it was one of those accidents that got hidden in the bottom of a dresser....

Rubbing alcohol takes it right out. Been there.

The ONLY thing that removed Silly Putty, the stuff of the devil I swear, was my Steam Shark steam cleaner. Everything else was futile. And I tried everything possible that you can find online. The steam cleaner melted that stuff and got rid of it when nothing else would.

Silly Putty is not ever allowed in our house. Ever.

ice or peanut butter. ice hardens it enough to pull out in one piece. if any is left behind and more ice doesn't get it, the peanut butter should work. do this before putting the clothes in the wash or you'll have a mess with all clothes you wash for a long time. silly putty is amazing alright!!! a tiny bit goes a long way when this happens - been there!
