We are cutting down a tree that is split...ever heard of anyone building a tree house on top of stump? We were thinking 5 ft high off ground..not sure if we should or just grind the stump down.
It can and has been done but you need to know what you are doing. What I mean is it needs to be secure. It is not like you take a club house and nail it to the top of a tree and add steps, ya know?
Oh you also need to be able to figure out if the tree is compromised too much to support the tree house.

I have seen that done! they are really neat looking! I mean there are obvious safety things to look at, like how stable the stump is and how wide it is across, but other than that, I would go for it! your kids will love it!
I just wanted to say that this is such a COOL idea!! If you can figure out how to do it...it sounds like so much fun for the kids!

I have seen them, if you google tree house you will find some cool examples. Have fun!!
If you do grind the stump down, maybe you can treat is and build the tree house around it, kind of like a center piece - the stump can decroated to be the 'table' for treats and games.
